Doorgunner's '68 Convertible Project

My Escalade has load-sensing sensors/air shocks.....they automatically level the vehicle when carrying multiple passengers (7) or when towing boats/car trailers. They automatically lower the vehicle when the passengers/trailer are removed.
The automatic lowering back to a normal ride height would be the costly part of the system.
Annnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnd...........I was kidding about installing the system........(I think!)
Back to the garage to re-install the steering column.....which I started on a month/plus CAI/plus Sidepipes.......ago!

LOL! That's a LITTLE higher than I was imagining!
O.K. Now I'm really going back to the garage.

Going from a 13" diameter steering wheel to a 15" diameter wheel is a B-I-G change!
I might actually get to test drive it tomorrow and try out the new wheel, new CAI, and the new side pipes!
EDIT: OOOOOPS...I DIDN'T WIPE THE CONSOLE DOWN!

I also cranked the engine and let it idle about 15 minutes to test the modified fan shroud and the operation of the dual e-fans.
The infrared gun shows the thermostat opens at 190*F ....the puller fan turns on at 195*/ the second fan turns on 10 seconds later (delay relay)...
It takes about 1 minute for the thermostat housing temperature to drop down to 180*F after the 2nd fan turns on.
Tomorrow I'll set the freshly painted hardtop on the car since it's supposed to rain for the next 10 days......then a trip to the car/spray wash to clean all the oil film off the block from adjusting the lifters.
Then.....I'll test drive it on local roads and the Interstate!

Looking good DG. I just have to ask though. Is the steering wheel upside down or are the wheels turned?

O.K............but I'm not crossing the Mississippi River until I put some local miles on the car!
I rotated the steering wheel so that the speedometer and tachometer would be easier to see while driving.
It's time to go to the garage......."unweld" the jackstands.........and put the car on concrete!

Some good news.....
I "pried" the jackstands from the frame.......I tested the upgraded power brakes in the neighborhood/they work great---no grabbing/etc.
The "wiper tray" CAI sounds like it wants to suck the windshield out of the frame.
The new sidepipes sound gruesome during hard acceleration but mellow out to a low rumble at 60+ mph/ hearing the radio will not be a problem for my wife (I listen to the sidepipes, myself)

The speedometer which was 20 mph too fast (showed 80mph when actually doing 60 mph) is now only 4 mph slow---I don't feel like removing the speedometer to adjust the "advance/retard slider on the speedo-head/I can live with it.
The manual steering box now feels like power steering with the new 15" diameter steering wheel.
Even while driving it hard on local highways the temperature stayed at 190*F even with ambient air at 95*F.
The local highway driving is a pain but it needed to be done to test the radiator shroud/E-fans......30 mph one minute/60 mph the next minute/traffic light/repeat sequence..........

TH400........ 3:36 differential..................... 245-65-15 rear tires.............. 2900 rpm at 70 mph
I'll try to put an hour of Interstate driving on the car tomorrow

EDIT: I should have saved all that hair I pulled out of my scalp in the last three months

The black paint is literally falling off the body............
BUT.......I'll post some pics (and try to make a test-drive video

Now the work bench is a foot deep in tools that I gathered from under/around the car......hanging everything back onto the pegboard will be tomorrow's project.....along with timing the engine/adjusting the carb/leveling the passenger's sidepipe.
