Anyone know if driver side and passenger side mirrors were available on the 1972 coupe
According to 'Corvette 1968-1982 Restoration Guide': All 1970-1972 Corvettes have one outside rearview mirror mounted on the driver's door.
A passenger door mirror was not available as a factory option in 1973-1976 but was offered as a dealer-installed accessory.
Thanks for the info on the pass side mirror on the 72 Looks like the nice new one I got for it is going back
Well.. I have a 72… have taken it through NCRS and received a few deducted points for the added right side mirror however, I got all the points back by not getting hit due to not having a right side mirror.
My recommendation is that the side mirror, while not a standard in 72 is now a necessity. Just like they put bias ply tires on the car back then (that will also kill you if go with original), times have changed. i would absolutely put that side mirror on. It helps for lane changes and safely backing your fiberglass car into a safe spot.
Sounds like all the reasons I ordered the pass side mirror Haven't driven the 72 yet It's been under restoration in my garage for some time Your 2 cents make a lot of sense to me
Ditto,...in fact my new right side mirror is on the operation table as we speak to be installed tomorrow. After years of having a right side mirror, the last thing I want to do is "I thought I was okay". I have removed the door panel, etc. to prep. One thing I'm going to have to buy that I did not anticipate is new black gasket seal for the plastic. Apparently this door trim has never been off the car and the plastic literally just fell loose but didn't tear. Noticed the birthday of the car imprinted on the inside door panel. Oct 11, 1972.
The only thing I am not sure, how easy it will be to manipulate the fingers inside the metal door skin to mount.
NO 1968-76 Corvette, ever came from the factory, with a right side rear view mirror. They were only available as a "dealer installed" accessory.
Starting in 77, painted dual sport mirrors, became a factory installed option. The single chrome driver's side mirror, remained standard equipment up until 1980, when the painted sport mirrors became standard.
The NCRS will take a small deduction, for the passenger side mirror. You're only talking about a couple points, out of a total of 4500. To me, the minimal deduction is well worth the added safety and peace of mind, if you drive your car!
Deducting points for a dealer-installed GM option which is needed for SAFETY when driving the car is insane! A [correct] right-side mirror, on a driven car, should be allowed with no point deductions.

I finished the install of my right mirror today. I must say,...my ignorance made me start doing the other things I had planned for later. I hadn't even unpacked the new mirror and thought (as in any other car) that I'd have to have access on the inside of the door. I found out not so with this mirror and the way the mounting "nuts" are made. I could have done this months ago in 5 minutes. Simply determine placement, make a few pilot holes, use some good tape to prevent chip out and drill the holes, install the mounting bracket and wall-la, mirror installed.
BUT, because I thought I'd have to get inside the door to secure it, I removed the panel, the trim, the door glass, etc. ALL of what I was going to have to do anyway to install new anti-rattles, weather-strip, clean and relube the door glass rails, install new door handle. So, all in all, a good learning curve for me and it made me get off my *** on a good warm sunny day.

For your education only....
I believe any deduction for the addition of the passenger side view mirror would be minor and would be made ONLY for the non factory holes or missing fiberglass/paint. It would have nothing to do with the mirror itself.
To add an October 72 part would be found on a 1973 auto....?
Hi 7T1,
Your posts continue to be the best advertising the NCRS could possibly have.
I hope you'll continue with them or perhaps even increase their frequency!

But they give points for a fire extinguisher and battery disconnect! You can even earn extra points just driving your car to the meet.
Personally, my '69 has a passenger mirror that I never use. I find looking out the rear window gives me a better view.

Just my $.02
Actually I couldn't agree more. Driving was a whole lot different back then and it wasn't needed like it is today . I wouldn't even consider driving any car today without a right side mirror. With all of the roads having more lanes and people making quick lane changes you need to know where all other vehicles are at all times. If you love your car and your life , you need both mirrors.
Hi,
Do the mirrors being sold for the right side of 68-72 cars have the same planar mirror as the left side mirror or the convex mirror of later right side mirrors?
Regards,
Alan
I always respect your photos, info, and opinions. Therefore, I will heed your advice and continue to point out the idiosyncracies of NCRS' quirky rules, as needed. If this helps NCRS enroll new members, so be it!
P.S. I have yet to see a 'correct' right-side mirror with a convex reflector. If one were available, I'd be the first in line.
