I forgot all about this thread. Then saw a chrome bumper conversion on Facebook. And thought about your conversion. Did a search and found it. Great work. I actually was following along at the time because I had an 80 I was going to convert to chrome bumpers. I sold that and saved myself alot of work and bought a 72. Can't wait to see it done.
I wish Priya would just. Check. In more often. Even if she isn't actively working on it.
I'm currently focused on working around the foundation of the house to prevent mice from getting in. I hope to be back working on the Corvette before the summer is out and it has to go back into storage for the winter.
I just spent about 30 minutes scrolling thru the work you did in 2020 (alot of work!)....
I found a post about your plan to finish the rear bumper conversion/blend the paint on the new section/do a transmission swap/etc.... and drive the car for a while.
It still sounds like a good plan!
Besides...I still have the "Easy Peasy" chrome front bumper plan memorized (that I never implemented) if you need it next year.... hint...hint
I figured I'd check in and show people what I'm working on instead of the Corvette:
We've been getting mice in our house for the past couple of years and I'm trying to seal off the front entrance way where we figure they're getting in. The front entrance way does not sit on the basement, it just sits directly on the ground. We bought some 12 gauge aluminum sheet I was going to put all around the entrance way where the wall meets the ground. I was only able to get a piece on the front wall, its buried 12 inches in the ground with a few inches sticking above. I had to dig out underneath the steps with a little hand shovel but I finally got the aluminum sheet in place:
The other two walls I couldn't get an aluminum sheet up against the walls because the stucco/cement was poured on the ground preventing a flush fit:
This green/blue side I'm going to use concrete patch on the broken areas and lay out some of it on the ground from the wall about 1 foot out. On the brown wall to the left there's a sidewalk a couple of inches away from the wall and I'm just putting concrete patch in the crack between the side walk and the wall. Hopefully that will keep the little $%*%!! out of the house - they're making me crazy!
Yep stainless wool packed in the openings will do the trick.
You are definitely multi talented, those mice don't stand a chance. A moose may be a different issue

Good luck with mice...we have a granite foundation from the 1700's here and you can fit your hand in some of the gaps....But my section of the garage is new and I use rabbit wire and spray foam insulation. They get tired of that crap and go onto the next building

I've always wanted to own something that dates back at least to the 1700's and here you are living in a house made then!

I put bait boxes and sticky traps out in my garage and barn.
The garage on both sides of the overhead door and up on each side of where the access door enters the house. 38 years here and never one in the house and only a few made it into the garage. None ever in my newer detached 3 car garage. I;ve had a number in my barn but they never survived to tell their grandmice!
If they're within 6 feet of my dwelling they're fair game. They can make a mess if you get a couple breeders inside!

Its not all that its cracked up to be. The floors sag, the insulation up stairs is non existant. acutally the insulation is blown in and problably just laying at the bottom of the walls. It did have old newspapers stuffed in there at one point....
Back to your mice issue, my buddy found some electronic traps that dont need bait, they just run on batteries. Open on both ends, but only one entrance and the mice just wander in and get fried. The power light changes color or lights up or something to let you now you need to empty it. THe "dry" style is aobut $30 and the weather proof version is about $50 or 60. You just pick up the trapp and dump out the poor little mouse. The best part is that there is no poison so that what ever comes along to eat the carcass isnt getting poisoned.
My Daughter's house is of indiscriminate age, allegedly started out as a chicken coop for the Grand house next door.
I think it was two years ago she was sitting at the table, looked up, and there was a chipmunk waving 'hello'. Daughter hot mighty busy with hardware cloth and the like. She did manage to throw and keep the rascals out.
