Default 1976 two tone interior option?

The seller of this white 1976 Corvette is advertising it has "the original white and red delux leather interior" How rare was this option?? it kinda looks awkward like its a mistake

In 1976/1977 the body trim plate code ZJ1 which is located in the upper left corner just above the interior code stands for (CUSTOM INTERIOR TWO-TONE). This option was never listed in any sales brochures or dealer handouts. It took an override to order a new corvette with this option. I have seen only a handful with this code. I have a 77 L-82 4 speed with this override option.

with Beck and have only seen a handful. I have seen white with red; white with blue and white with slate. Rare is probably good word to describe these two-tone interior options but know that rare does not always compute to desirable and therefore command the big bucks.

Here's link to a discussion thread that has been around since 2004 on this topic.

Yea the more I look at it the better it seems to present itself. This is the first time I've seen one and I've been a C3 guy since before i could drive - the 76/77 cars get very little respect so its nice to see an "added value" option that appears to be extremely rare and unique. Maybe I'll go take a look at the car to at least be able to say I have seen one! The two tone blue from the previous post looks even better.

My first car was a mid-70's Camaro with black interior and white seats. Nice contrast plus the seats don't get blistering hot in summer...

I have a white/firethorn combo interior. The white seats aren't too bad to upkeep just keep them clean and conditioned.

This was the mid-70's version of 'pimpin' your ride'.

Actually, if you can minimize the dropped M&M's on the white seats, the dark colored carpets should stay pretty clean looking. I really like the Firethorne with white seats/door panels. That two-tone interior group is pretty nice.

I don't believe that the two-tone white interiors are all that rare. I've seen plenty of them over the years, especially the white and Firethorn (red) combo.

In 76 and 77, if you ordered a white interior, the door panels and seat covers were white, and the rest of the interior was color keyed to the exterior color of the car. With a White exterior, you had a choice of either a White and Black interior, White and Blue/Green or White and Dark Firethorn interior. For the rest of the 76 exterior colors, the breakdown was as follows.

Silver exterior - White and Smoke Gray interior.
Dark Green Exterior - White and Blue/Green interior.
Mahogany exterior - White and Dark Firethorn interior.
Light Buckskin - White and Dark Brown interior.
Dark Brown exterior - White and Dark Brown interior.
Corvette Red exterior - White and Dark Firethorn interior.

The 77 the white interior two-tone combinations were:

White exterior - White and Smoke/Gray interior.
Silver exterior - White and Smoke/Gray interior.
Black exterior - White and Smoke/Gray interior.
Dark Blue exterior - White and Dark Blue interior.
Medium Red exterior - White and Medium Red interior.
Buckskin exterior - White and Buckskin Tan Interior.

The 76 white and firethorn interior is pretty common, while the white and blue/green and white and dark brown are pretty rare. I don't know if the 77 white/buckskin combination was ever actually offered. I seem to remember reading that it was cancelled before production began?

Two-tone white interiors were nothing new for Corvettes. In 64 and 65, you could get white seats and door panels with either a black, red or bright blue, as well as white with a black dash and silver carpet. A white two-tone interior was also offered in 66, but only in a combination with bright blue.

I know this post is old but thought I would try anyway. Just got a red '77 with red and white interior. What color are inside of t tops supposed to be? Mine are black but edges look almost dark red like they were poorly painted

The headliners were red (technically "Firethorn"), as were the a-pillar moldings, the rear interior quarter trim panels, the targa bar headliner and the T-bar molding between the tops. On the two-tone white interiors, only the door panels and seats were white, the rest of the interior including the tops, all trim panels, dash, console and carpet were red, or whatever the interior's primary color was. The t-top headliners would only ever be black in a car with a black interior.
