As James and I have said there is no timetable on this car being brought out for any type of display. We both have irons in other fires. Its will just be part of the family’s collection...
Thanks Mark, believe it or not the car was offered to me through the other board we are members of by another 20 year member.
Honestly had it not had the documentation or have been a special car I would have passed on it... I was considering passing because I am VERY HAPPY with my Brandshatch LT1 Coupe..My brother is the one who pushed the issue... he said If you are not going to buy it I am, then said "let's buy it together".
Prior to working on the Black LT1, we are going to finish the few things on my brother's 73 to get it ready for Flight judging and I am going to go for a DUNTOV with my car, so the car will just sit in QUE.
I may try to have the Black car ready for Bloomington in Charlotte next Oct and then MCACN next year (50 year anniversary of 71), however I am doing a 69 L78 M22 Pace car for unveiling at MCACN next year as well. IF MCACN was going on this year I was considering bringing it for the barn find section, that being said, I can't see myself waiting a year to begin on the Black car just to bring it to MCACN 2021 as a barn find with all the dirt and dust...
You would have been crazy to pass on that car. All LT-1's are cool, but it is always better to have one that has something special about it. As much as I like unrestored cars, that car would look stunning in black and show room fresh!!!
I have sent PM's to countless people letting them know if they want to ever sell their car to contact me... never before has the car checked out.
What is ironic is that the former owner posted to the NCRS boards in 1999 asking about the car. The response was: There were no records relating to how many Special Paint 1971's were built and second... enjoy the car.
In my local town there are now 3 - special paint Black Vettes, 2 - 1971's - (my buddy Jim's LS5 roadster with 19k miles, this LT1) and my brother's original paint Black 73.
Black LS5 -
IN ADDITION the other Black original paint 73 L82 from HORY is over in Rock Hill South Carolina.
Gents-this week I came to an agreement on purchasing 70 LT-1 and given the high compression motor I’d like to know what some of you do for fuel. There is a local Sunoco that offers additives like
this one. https://www.sunocoracefuels.com/fuel/standard
Is it a good idea to mix this with ethanol free 90 octane?Any feedback is much appreciated.

I just purchased one myself and had the same question. Race fuel, additives or avgas. Upon many hours off research I decided to go with 100LL avgas. It’s leaded, it’s about the same octane the motor was designed for and it’s cheaper than race fuel which is about $10/gal where I’m at.
There’s a small local airstrip by me that sells it for about $4.50/gal.
I don’t trust additives much. Seems more snake oil than anything else. There are 2 however that seem to have the best reviews. Klotz and Aces IV. I’ll probably get some Aces and keep a small container in the car for the random station fill up.

I used to keep a plastic measuring cup for fuels and a bottle of AVGAS in my truck whenever I took my drag boats out for a weekend.
It was simple to pump gas into the tank and measure in a few once’s of AVGAS to up the octane.
One nice thing about additives is, you can find some that have fuel conditioners that work great for those of us who don’t put a lot of miles on our toys or store them over the winter.
I knew someone would ask! Dave Fiedler did the distributor, so I believe it is as stock. I do have the vac advance that Lars (I think, I'll check that, too, working from memory) recommends, but it isn't installed. The timing is more than the stock 8 degrees. I'll attempt to uncover that information. I know I have it, and the car won't be running for at least a month. Patience.
From time on dyno in 2018: "Added 4-5 degrees of timing as initial timing was very low (but unspecified - I imagine 8-degrees BTDC), total of 32 degrees. "

Reason: added information
Not too many! It's fun to see who gets it - you can tell as they're about doubled over laughing. I carry a pocket size periodic table for those who are truly curious
Childhood friend, PhD in materials, didn't get it. "Well it should be Pb, then Ida got it!"
