It's a real tight squeeze, but I managed it for a few years. I couldn't crawl completely under, but just enough to reach most of the engine parts. Lots of times I had to exhale to slide in. I don't know if I could still do it because I've put on a lot of weight, but I can still snake my arms far enough under to reach the oil plug.

What I did, no more vibration than with both rubber but the eng barely moves when you get on it as seen by me with the hood off.

I am glad I didn't put the hood back on before I went for my first test ride with the new top end installed. The motor was torquing up on the drivers side a good couple of inches...time for new motor mounts here...I guess I am stuck on the same question, poly? or solid?

When I built the motor for my 70Z28 I put in new stock motor mounts and the one on the drivers side lasted about 2 months. I switched to Moroso solid mounts (because of necessity) on the engine and a polymount on the tranny. No more problems.

Any noise or vibration? Seems no one gets noise or vibration.

I bought a rubber mount at NAPA to replace the passenger side mount (I think it was the passenger side). It was the 3rd mount that I had purchased, the ones from AutoZone and O'Reilly looked like the original but didn't fit. The NAPA mount fit but looked totally different. Either way, no more fan rubbing the radiator shroud.

FWIW I didn't loosen the distro cap or the exhaust.

Solid mounts! Forget about ripping the others apart and don't worry about vibration. V8's don't vibrate enough to worry about it.

Chris

Yea one other thing, I did dent my oil pan beatin my head on it wishing I had put the on before puttin the motor in.

You guys are starting to convince me to order up a set of solid mounts.

Has anyone had an issue with solid mounts?

If not, I am pushing the buton......

The mounts are on order. As soon as they show up it will be garage time.

Thanks all for the advice.

Yeah with that high HP 327 you'll need a solid mount. My 350 went through a pair of rubber mounts and it's not even a power house.

I'm glad to see you guys aren't a bunch of sissys wanting to make a luxury car out of a C3! Seriously, solids are the way to go. Just like an aluminum radiator; do it once and forget it!

You don't have an aluminum radiator ? You should seriously consider installing one, way better than the stock rad....

It's actually on my list as soon as I can afford it. Mine is leaking from the huge hole the hood put in it when the garage door hyper extended my hood.
