When you did your electronic tach conversion is the Autometer dial showing in the ceter of the Corvette rachometer?
If so i would paint the autometer dial black like the color of the Corvette tachometer so the Autometer dial does not show at all
I like what you have done to the engine. Both the downdraft and crossram looks good
I would have a hard time decide which to choose if it was my car
Yes.. I think all the pieces are coming together w/ it...I am shooting for the Hot Rod Power Tour this June.
I just got an ECU that will be able to handle sequential fuel injection- twelve LS2 coils and the ITB's
It's the latest from Megasquirt -MS3-Pro
I pulled out the mock-up V12 and have the 'real' engine sitting in the engine bay- looks like everything is going to be close but fit...
I got the intakes back from my welder buddy- and the L88 hood will clear the fuel rails-
I decided I have to have air conditioning- but NO place was left for a compressor on the front of the motor...I found a 12VDC brushless motor and controller used for 18 wheeler cabs thanks to no idle laws. Putting in in the fender well and I have a Vintage Air system on order...
And thanks to "Tom B1"s idea with the Ford Probe Headlight Motors- I won't have vacuum lines running all over nor a vacuum tank...
I have been following this build since the beginning, I love it! Hotrodding at it's finest!!
The electric A/C compressor is a great idea, and your fabbed throttle linkage is awesome! I can't wait for the start up vid!
I am working on the same electric headlight motor mod, also thanks to the same thread by Tom B1. Do You happen to have a pattern for the brackets you made? It would save me some time! Yours looks great, I see you didn't cut the bottom of the housing, but instead notched the top. I like.
Thanks guys...I am going w/ sweet thunder side exhaust under the factory covers. I'll put the template up tomorrow for the headlights....
I'm getting really close to firing this thing up....
I'm in the process of finally assembly -throttle bodies-finished making the mounts for the fuel rails however still waiting on some aluminum tube to finish the vacuum block for the map sensor.
MY BIG step- the harness is finished. I hooked up the coils -injectors- air and coolant temp sensors plus the throttle position sensor.
I have put together a baseline program set up or tune for my engine- wasn't really that hard to do w/ "TunerStudio."
NOW the big test - I hook up 12volts power it up and connect the USB to my Laptop...It works!!! And here's proof-
I first have the throttle body w/ TPS sensor and got it calibrated- you can see it on the gauge on the Laptop. Next I run the hairdryer on the coolant temp sensor and then the Air temp sensor- and you can see the temps rise...
Next I run a injector test- you have to listen closely-the injectors click in sequential firing order- I labeled them A-L to verify..then I do the same with the coils...almost there!!!
Wow, Richard, what a build! Anything other than a GM engine in a 'vette doesn't have a lot of appeal to me, but you're changing my mind!
It's this sort of out of the box thinking and innovation that this country was built on. Your patience and perseverance are amazing, most of us would have abandoned this project when we first pulled the BMW engine and had it swinging on an engine hoist..."Fxxx that, I'll find a big block". You seem to be the kind of guy that thrives on challenge. It's easy to see why...you really are a process oriented sort of fella. Too bad that when you reach your goal, it'll be time to start a new one.
Next time how about a turbocharged LS stroker in one of those donor beamers...
My hat is off to you. Please carry on, I'm anxious to see this beast on the road.
This thread is awesome. I've always loved the idea of putting a completely different engine in a car. And what better than this, I'm a huge BMW fan and C3 corvettes were my first love...well except for maybe the Ferrari F40...first attainable love.
The Ferrari F40 is on top of my list
It is much better looking than the Ferrari F50 as well
