And the parts gathering has begun!! Got these in today, is there a way to confirm they are off of a 1973? I don't see any part numbers or markings on them. Why say you guys?
They look correct for a 73. The brackets on the driver's side just hold a beige wire for the anti dieseling relay. Not sure what they hold on the passenger side.
You may want to consider joining NCRS if you are wanting to keep it original or at least close. $40 for the year. I am a member and NCRS is an excellent resource. That is how I learned your valve covers are correct
As a side note the baffles inside the mufflers can become loose and rattle even though they look good on the outside. Ask me how annoying that can be. Once hot the rattle tends to go away. Corvette Central makes a very good fitting replacement and they have periodic specials that may include free shipping. No one makes a 100% original type replacement exhaust system but they do make one that fits perfectly.
I have the stock aluminized CC system on my 70 and it sounds very good and fits well.

Thanks Bill! I do plan on joining NCRS soon. There are a couple dents I am going to try to work out of them but they should clean up pretty nice. I am going to make the final decision on whether I am pulling the body or not this week.

Wow! separating the body and frame. That would be very ambitious.
Now if anybody can pull it off in a timely fashion my money is on you. Beware it can get extremely expensive pretty quick.
I went through the same thought process and decided to do a body on as best I could. Now Mine had almost NO rust as it lived most of its life in the Texas desert. I did have some minor rust on the upper corners of the windshield. Nothing POR15 didn't cure.
I am waiting with baited breath on your decision

Reason: spelling
I don't have a real rust problem, can't seem to figure out what drives the cost up so much above what I am planning to do frame on. If it is just a matter of replacing bushings, fuel lines and brake lines, that doesn't seem like a huge expense over doing a frame on.
Thanks for betting on me because I will be leaning on all of you! Hahaha once I decide, it's on!!!
Let the games begin!!!!! I often get asked how long does it take to scrape a Vette with a razor blade. I got bored tonight and decided to get going... This took me an hour and fifteen minutes.
Now if this car only had original paint, you would be down to the original primer here but this car has red primer over the original paint so I need advice on this. When I did the 78 I never got past the red primer but this time I want to go all the way to the glass. That primer is not going to scrape easily so can anyone tell me the best method of getting it off from here?
Thanks!
I see blue!!! Yes!
Hey, so the Citristrip works on the primer and the paint? I have been reading threads some say worked on paint but not primer and others say the opposite.
My wife and I have used it for years, her on stripping furniture. I have taken two vehicles, albeit not vettes, down to bare metal in as little as 2 coats. Wife likes the biodegradable aspect of the product......I've literally rolled the car out into the sun and hit it with a pressure washer to remove the stuff, washed right into the storm sewers with no worries. You might want to try a small area with it (only $20 a jug) to see for yourself......certainly won't hurt anything. Good luck.

Got home from work and had some lacquer thinner on the shelf so I thought let's see how well this works.
Wowed ya the primer right off but man a whole car will be a mess!! Hahaha
Oh bonus! I finally get the Blue Vette I wanted last year...
Use a chemical stripper of some sort. You can go even more heavy duty and use the aircraft paint stripper too. Honestly, let the product do the work, using a razorblade makes you do all the work.
Anyone? Pictures and the best process of removing paint using stripper? Though a razor blade is slower and more work, when I am done I sweep the floor and rinse the dust off my hands and I am done. Stripper seems like it could be a nightmare. Lol
71scgc (forum member) is on visiting his mom for a couple of weeks and is going to help me do some things to the rearend of the car while he is in town. Tonight I am going to start and I am going to cut the exhaust out to get it out of the way, take out the leaf springs, shocks and the struts. Drivers side strut is bent and will have to be replaced also need to replace the spring bolt rubber as well as maybe the plastic (not sure what they are called) between the springs. I will post up pictures a little later. Any advice on type of paint I should use on the rear springs, parts and diff to be NCRS compliant would be good. Not that it will ever be judged but I want it to be close as possible to the way it was born.

Make a ring of cardboard around your car on the floor. When you use the stripper, let it sit until it has melted the paint off and then scrape it off with a bondo spreader, and it will just fall onto the cardboard. Once you are done, you just fold up the cardboard and throw it in the trash. Easy
