Hey Bird,

You were asking some questions about '73 wiring in another thread. I lost track of which thread that was so decided to post here. I've attached a pdf of some '73 wiring diagrams that might help you.

As far as the charging circuit, the charging wire goes from the alternator to the horn relay and then to a circuit breaker located on the driver's side firewall near the top. From there it goes to the starter. One lead of the ammeter connects to the charging wire that is between the circuit breaker and the starter. I believe this wire is black with an orange fusible link where it connects to the charging wire. The other ammeter lead connects to the horn relay via a fusible link and I believe this lead is black with a white stripe. On my '73 there is another wire out of this fusible link over to the alternator connector.

Not sure my '73 is completely stock with respect to the wiring and Bubba has certainly been around so the above description might not apply to the '73 you are working on. But, holler if you need me to look at something on my car. I'm in the process of cleaning up the wiring under the hood now. Also installing a #4 charging wire.

Oh yes. Thats coming soon.
I am just trying to get out in front of hard parts.
A NOS pump pulley was a great score.
Found spacers to align the pump.

Cleaned the old sensor spot with a tap, and installed plug with PTFE paste.
Drilled 1/8" hole in USA made 160* stat.
This helps with bleeding air, and vents steam if the stat fails.
Installed new switch and old gauge sensor. I like PTFE paste. It lubricates and seals well.
Your only holding 15lbs, so snug is fine.
The sensors work fine, as the threads cut thru the paste. Just try screwing it down and prevent conductivity. Not gonna happen.

I love the fitment dates. If it works, leave it be.

Sensors set correct.
5 thread engagement with flat washers to prevent galling.
Gaskacinch to hold gasket on housing.
white grease on the manifold.
I do it this way so you can pop it off if the stat fails, or to flush the system easily.

Old pulley was really sadly bent.
NOS pulley fixes that.
Now to align them so the belt works properly.

Starting to empty the garage so I could remodel it.

You know, before I knew it would be double the cost from what I told my spousal unit..

Yeah

Just how much have you spent on that car? Good thing I have a secret slush fund.

Default Back to work

Mounted the power steering pump with 1/4" spacers. That aligns the belts, but I need a narrower one. It rides too high.

Changed the fuel pump to a stock unit with return.
Luckily I had a set of molded s hoses from Doc in stock
Used the old "grease on the push rod" trick to hold it in place.
Of course, sometime the 3/8" hard line was cut back.
A new piece of tubing will be spliced in with a brass compression union.
Just one more fire to put out.

Today I took a 24" piece of brake line, rolled a proper bead in the hose end, bent it to follow the return line, and tied it in with a 3/8"x3/8" compression coupling.
Tied in the "s" hoses, and now the pump is complete.
I need to find a clamp for on top of the frame rail.
Anyone reading this please let me know. Used is fine. Go car, not show.

I need one of these to finish underneath.

Now thinking about a finshed layout for the fuel line.
Simple or fancy. It doesn't matter. Just has to make sense.

I decided the shelf bracket throttle cable clamp had to go.
I located the correct bracket and clamp on flea bay.

Took the rubber off a clamp, reworked it with a hammer, and made my own fuel line clamp.
I will bolt it down and done.

One hose clamp was too large. I hate that crap.
So I cut off the excess thru a slot, dressed it on a grinder. 60 seconds and I have the correct clamp now.

The Gates lower hose was 2" too long at the pump.
No biggie. Cut 2" off with a knife. It also had no spring, so I jambed in a NOS hose spring.
If you do this, just install it half way up the bend
I had a car in 73 come in the shop with the most hideous noise. His hose was so soft, the spring migrated to the water pump, wrapped around the impeller, and was just crazy loud.
