I corrected the reservoir mounting by using the stock rear screws, and used a 1" spacer in the front. It sits right, and is sturdy.
Not much progress. Waiting on materials.
Had to remove the sway bar to slide it in from the bottom.
Two rusted bolts snapped, so that tells me they skipped this on the suspension rebuild.
Now I will have to deal with that.
The Spal fan kit from De Witts states it screws right on. Well, the supplied Z bar is 1/4" too short, or it would rub the fans on the core, so 1/4" spacing is in order. Always something stupid.
The deeper I get.......
Got the snapped bolts out, noticed the lower hose has no spring, and the power steering pump is misaligned due to a wierd stack of washers.
This car is chock full of stupid.
I pulled the power str pump off today, and bolted on the block without all those washers.
It sits square now, but 5/16" shy of this crank pulley. The other pulleys are fine.
So bracket, crank pulley , who knows. The pump pulley is also damaged. Oh boy.
This car was beaten for years.
The DUI unit finally got here.
I will have to change out the wiper motor to make room.
I will verify the curve on the distributor tomorrow.
I spoke with owner this morning about budget creep, but he understands.
Best to just fix whats wrong.
If they are not reliable , they just suck.
Thank you for the kind words. The car has good bones, it's just 43 years old, and tired.
It takes me back to HS and my old track days. So far,
most anything I find is something we did as kids.
Now if I had only saved all that stuff we tossed...………………….
Who knew?
Pulled the stat housing. No stat. Typical for bracket racing.
Good thing, one side was held on by two threads.
New 160* stat and housing ported for temp sensors will replace that old corroded housing.
Made a set of #4 charge wires for this car and a 99 project.
#8 fusable link crimped, soldered, and shrink tube.
Dug out my old beastie iron for these.
This Dorman stat housing showed up today.
It gives me a port for the fan temp switch, and moves the gauge sending unit out from under the hose. Win- win.
It's a 902-2009 if anyone wants to do this.
It has a 1/2" npt port and a smaller 3/8" npt port.

Slideshow: A Jaguar designer's personal project imagines what a modern front-engined Corvette might look like if Chevrolet revisited the golden age of the Stingray.
