Cool thread! Enjoy watching the return to "normalcy". Love the NCRS definition. Need one of those t-shirts!I have been saying I want my car to be like what I would have done or had in high school, but after going through your thread I am pretty sure I need to rethink that statement! LOL! Keep it up!
Thank you. I ordered a simple belt from Rock Auto. It's coming from a warehouse 10 miles away. I ordered it Tuesday, and tracking shows Thursday. 10 days for 10 miles.
worked for a Canon dealer in Jamesburg NJ. parts came from Canon warehouse...Jamesburg NJ. UPS 2nd day air. what they do? put em on an airplane at Newark airport and fly in circles for a while then load em in the same truck?
this reminds me of the 69 I bought, it had a 425 HP SBC in it from a reputable engine builder with all the right parts and a Richmond 6 speed BUT
had the typical bent C3 gas pedal rods so the secondaries weren't even opening
had an expensive NOS set up that wasn't even hooked up
Had rubber hose on the fuel line that said right on it "not for fuel"
various vacuum lines were just disconnected with just bolts in them
had a Holley electric fuel pump with no regulator and a Demon carb with a plugged fuel return line (can you say vapor lock)
3 different kind of header bolts (all wrong type) and one missing
two radiator caps with no expansion or overflow tank
wrong pins on convertible top that wouldn't go down
cut a big hole in the metal floor console to mount a toggle switch
piece of a sock in the breather to make up for missing baffle in valve cover
lots of zip ties
missing fan shroud seals
various brackets with nothing on them
rear sitting lower than front
Finally. I received the belt from RA. It placed the pump all the way out. So, my spare for the 81 fit perfectly. Oh well. So I recommend the XL7360 if XL7365 is too long. Fits perfect in the pulleys . Ride height is right where you want it.
I will connect the hoses, fill and bleed, and on to the cooling system. Then I can check for leaks and function before moving on to ignition and wiring.
As expected, the rest of the belts were incorrect.
3 trips to the parts store, and I am happy with the width, length, and alignment. My parts guy lets me exchange over the counter to size them correctly.
Installed the top hose, and filled with coolant.
I want to start it up and check my work so far.
I will let it trickle charge tonight and test tomorrow.
Okay. Took a while to prime, but started right up with no leaks. So far, so good.
Now to attack the bubba wiring, update for new alternator, spal fans, elec choke, a/c kick up and HEI.
I am quite sure the red neck engineering will continue in that as well.
It will be very reliable when done.
I ordered a 78-82 wiper motor to replace the stock unit. This will give the needed clearance for the HEI unit. Of course the non pulse wiper cover is extra.
AND, the only stock is back east. Of course.
Now trying to decide where to mount the relays for the spals. I like the Vintage Air cookie sheet on the firewall, but I do not know what is behind it as I did not install it.

I tested the DUI HEI today.
Off idle to 3000rpm shows a nice linear curve of 18*
Vacuum advance is 10* all in at 13", which is idle vacuum for this cam.
I will add a thrust washer for the tach gear, and a tad more grease.

I will check it out. Can always use more sources.
(Except my close friend is a retired radiator guy).
He re-cored some NCRS stuff for me. The guys love him. He has a warehouse full of NOS stuff.
