Aloha All,

I’d like to say thank you to those who have contacted me for an update, I needed that.

Yes, I got lazy, moving into the new house, winter came, yet now its spring and I need to get things moving. I still have my jobs that I’m thankful for that. Since moving it from the apartment parking garage to the house, I haven’t done much. It’s time to get back to the Vette.

I started looking over it to figure out what I need to do next. So, I drained the fuel tank as its not ready to start yet and put it in my truck. I noticed now that I have room (2 car garage), I would like to clean up the wire mapping a little and consolidate the various relays to one location. (Fuel, MSD, FAST EFI, AC, etc.)

That will give me two Relay locations one for vehicle management on the Ron Francis and another (on order) behind the center console or maybe passenger dash? Researching other C3 projects.

My goal is to get it in starting condition this spring/summer and come up smaller projects, that can be done on my weekend time (interior, pop doors, etc.)

Thanks again to all, Ill update in the coming weeks.

Behind the passenger dash is the easiest to access and the most room.

Aloha All,

I didn’t get a chance to work on the Vette this week. Yet I picked up a Vise, brought it into my weekend job and refurbished it. Other than that, I have been planning out a wire map layout to clean up the install of the wiring.

I plan to finish cleaning up the garage in the next two weeks where I can get the Vette in the air. Have a great week, I’ll update soon.

Cheers,

Karp

Looks great.
I’ve had that same vice for 40 years.
Still works great.
Now I may have to paint mine.

Aloha All,
Hope everyone is well. The Vette is in the air in my garage, and I started removing the seats and carpet to clean up the wires with the wire map I made. When it lived in the Apt Parking garage, I always had to have it look like it was operational and covered. Now that I have a garage, I can take it apart to make sure the wires are ran correctly and nice. With summer upon us I hope to get to work on it more often. Here are a few pics of some stuff I cleaned up the other day. Anyone know the Admins to get the Air Force & Army Badges added? Thanks.
V/r,
Barry
Looks like I forgot to take before pictures, yet decided to start refurbing what I can and hang it on my garage wall until it's ready to go in the vette

Aloha All,

Just a quick update. I was able to install some shelves and overhead lights in the garage, which allows me to have some storage space to take the Vette apart to start cleaning up the wiring. It will be nice not to have to put the car back together every night like in the parking garage. As you know the seats and carpet, then I started thinking about cleaning up the wiring harness. The girls are gone for summer holiday, so I’m taking a few days off next week (Wed/Fri) to work on the Vette. I plan to pull most of the circuits back to clean up the areas near the driver’s feet. If I ever do this again, I’d start with connecting all the wires on the distribution box then routing them to their end location. This is probably what I will be doing next week. I’ll try and get some updated pictures next week. Stay cool my friends.

Aloha All,

Just a quick update. I have been moving forward with wiring the main components to get it started and the dash to work correctly. All is going well except for the fuel gauge. (Could be due to low fuel level)

I removed all the spark plugs, which are a pain with these headers, sprayed the cylinders with seafoam, drained and put the oil back in to try and lubricate stuff and rotated the engine to TDC.

While putting the plugs back in I noticed that some were Autolite and some Champion, so a quick trip to my local auto part store to make them all matching platinum plugs. From here it was time to cross my finger and pray to the auto heads for good fortune. The engine turned over and … did not start.

Further investigation the fuel pump was not engaging. I bypassed the relay and saw I was getting about 35PSI. My next thing to check will be the Fast EFI computer to see if it needs to be further programmed. I just must find it as we moved last year, and many things are still in boxes.

I hope everyone is well and I am still on track to have the car started this, Summer. Stay tuned and I hope to check back in soon.

V/r,

Karp

Aloha All,
I hope everyone is doing well. With this Govt shut down I have had a few days off from my main job and used it mostly to work on the Vette. I can’t seem to get it started; I can get it to turn over. I can apply 12DC to the fuel pump relay and the pump kicks on to about 23PSI (I know I’ll have to boost that to 43PSI). I think the issue is the FAST EFI is not sending negative control signals to the relay.
Hopefully Monday, I’ll be able to dig into it a little more and make some headway. I’ll also be relocating the FAST system fuse and relay to make it more accessible. I have the weekend to do research and depending on how long this shutdown is I may be able to get the Vette running here shortly. Turning it over it sounds like it has a decent cam, I can’t wait to hear it hum. Have a great weekend.

That FAST wiring diagram is quite good. I don't reckon you'll have problem chasing that down.

Mid week update,
I finally got the fuel pump to work properly, it was a bad fuse. I must have popped it one day.
The fuel pressure gauge was leaking a little so i decided to put new blue monster gas tape on it and broke the glass on the guage lol. Im replacing with one from home depot until I can get a new fast one.
got the pressure up to 43 psi and still she hasn't started but have to recharge the battery now.
i did notice oil in the bottom of the intake after crankingnit, this is strange. I remember when i got the car there was oil in the same spot but chalked it up to being in transport. Anyone have ideas of why oil would pool in the bottom of the intake while cranking. The bolts are tight, not from the distributor and dont see.no obvious leaks between the intake and heads.
Lastly I placed a aluminum bar between the car frame and The AC.bracket to mount the AC and Fuel realys.
with any luck she will start this week.
Odd oil pooling in bottom of intake when cranking

thank to all and have a.great night.

Hmmmmmm,
Oil pooling in the intake just from cranking???
Seriously leaking valve cover gasket?
Vacuum port or plug missing?
Dripped when you pulled the distributor out?
Dripped when you poured in the engine oil?

Hi Karp,

I just saw your thread for the first time today when it landed on the Forum's main page. Wow; some project you've got going! Good luck with it!

Aloha All,

Just a quick catch-up.

Thank you Larry, I’ll keep that in mind. Oh, you are next to a Speedway, I didn’t realize there was one around me, this may be a neat thing to do one weekend, thank you.

Its defiantly oil and not coolant, I cleaned it up and will monitor it in the coming weeks.

Having some issues with fuel and RPM signal, think it's my own doing yet started a thread to track FAST EFI fuel pressure issues:

https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...re-issues.html

So hopefully I’ll have better news later in the week.

Thanks all for your reading time, see you on the road soon.

Aloha All,
After changing the fuel regular and guage due to the glass I cracked and it not holding pressure. The fuel regulator guage decided it was going to come as I was taking it off. The system is now holding pressure and better yet the Vette started for the first time in two years!
it sound great but died shortly after starting. I can keep it going if i give it a little fuel. Yet need to go back and check the fuel pressure and timing. Many thanks for everyones support, now to get it in turned and stay running, lol.

As many have said before one step forward and two back.
thanks goodness I put a pan and cardboard under the car.
Just looked under it after getting up to temp and the FAST EFI programmed and noticed this mess.
looks like I know where the oil is coming from, the rear seal must have went dry.
I'm going to finish putting the interior together and then tackle the transmission.

Even though I have the oil leak set back I am steaming along on getting the interior and electrical back together.
here is the latest progress.
with any luck I'll bebable to finish what interior I have and get it jacked up high enough to drop the Trans by next week. Looks like I'll have the time as the Govt doesn't show many signals of reopening.
I am thankful for this time but also looking to get back to work ecause ill need a paycheck and I have alot of customers/friends I worry about.
