I am not looking to destroy anything. I am merely trying to add to the experience by giving people a list of knowledgeable people to be able to ask them directly for information. People will ALWAYS post here looking for info from ANYONE, I'd just lke to help by pointing out some of the people you might IM and ask to contribute to a particular thread.

I will update the list later today.

I certainly know much more about some subjects than others, but my general philosophy is to know almost everything about some things and some things about almost everything.

I would also have to nominate Norval. Norval always seems to have the answers whenever I've had questions. Norval you are just too modest, you know your stuff :yesnod:.

The people that I have found to be most knowledgable would have to be (in no specific order):

Norval, Jim(427hotrod), Tom454, Curtis (mountainmotor)

That's not to say there aren't other informative people on the forum. I have e-mailed all of the above and they were more than happy to go in depth with all of the questions I've had....that says a lot. All of the above are top of their game.

A resource list is a really good idea. Even if we all WERE experts, people should still get second & third opinions and then make their own decision. A lot of us have gone through tons of grief & would gladly save others from that pain if we could. If any of you want advice on how to throw away a few year's salary on an out of control crazy car, feel free to contact me. That's one of the few things I can claim to be an expert at! :yesnod:

Thank you 74-Roadster but I am not in favor of being part of an expert anything. When someone gets a label sure enough he will let someone down.
I liked the old idea of throwing questions out there and reading all replies. If we field a question and the normal guy doesn't participate in answering what is the purpose to having a discussion group.
In the future are we to field the question then wait for the expert in that area to answer the question?
I don't think so.
I want opinions as much as I want expert advice.
Leave the forum the way it was and let all newcommers participate in posting.
If you are not knowledgeable in any field should you not be allowed to express an opinion?
In the end I always make up my own mind anyway but I like to hear as many different sides as possible.
You will destroying this.
You are dead wrong when you refer to the expert label...far from it....maybe a better term to describe as having first hand knowledge. Be proud of the fact that members think of you enough to be included in the list, and value your opinion.

Put me under Fuel Injection and OD trans swaps as well. I will be doing fuel injection on the 1980 pretty soon.
Also put me down for model year 1980.

I'd nominate Dalannex (Justin), UKPaul, and myself for most questions that have to do with the unique or near-unique aspects of the '81. There are a couple of other '81ers on here, too, that have learned a lot about these cars the hard way, I just don't recall the names right now. This topic certainly includes most of the general stuff about the "Computer Command Control" system, the E4ME carb, non-vacuum HEI ignition, etc. Most of this also applies to the 1980 California car with the LG4 engine. :seeya
I was just thinking as I read this that UKPaul, Gator81, and myself seem to be on top of the E4ME, and other 81' specific items. Of course, we kind of all taught each other, along with the school of hard knocks.

Don't forget GTR1999 and Monty as an authority on wheel bearings, (both are an authority on a number of other things as well), and when you talk q-jet info lets not forget about Clem Zharobsky (sorry if I spelled that wrong Clem), and Jim Shea for the steering. Of course, everybody else who chimes in and give, info, advice, and experiences is appreciated as well.

I am not an expert in anything however I have done a few things to my car and engine that have worked and if someone asks a question on how to do something that I have successfully accomplished then I will anwer, I do not answer if I heard it somewhere or saw a TV program on it only if I have actually done it and I know it works. :D

bence13_33. Shane I am not being modest. I know that I know the corvette intimately. I can design and machine my own axles, I can effortlessly install gears in the rear end, I can rebuild the transmissions, I can mostly machine , assemble my own motors, I can take brand new holley carbs, remachine, drill holes, install orfices, plug other holes and get the carb to work better then holley did in the first place, I know my brakes, my steering box, all the brackets hand made or removed/ modified on the car. I painted my own car. I know my blower, how to modify it, how to make it work.I DO EVERYTHING.
I do not need the forum. I enjoy it. I am in the teaching field at a large enginering university and I ENJOY helping others.
I will take months learning a part , one part of the corvette until I totally understand it then not bother with that part agian. I can afford to take a part and destroy it trying to make the part better.
I am looking at this expert list as saying you are the expert everyone else back off and let the expert answer the question. I personnally like to read answers from people that are just trying to contribute.
I am also afraid of getting labaled as an expert in some field and getting swamped with private emails. I enjoy the few I get but don't want it to become a job. I visit the forum for my enjoyment when I feel like it. I enjoy the discussions .
I want everyone regardless of their knowledge to keep trying to answer questions. I have seen some of our experts ask stupid questions that I knew the answer to like the back of my hand but I think, give them another year and they will see how stupid that question really was. But they are learning and that is what counts.
I am loosing my enthusism for the forum with this change to experts.
While I do not consider myself an expert I trust me more then anyone else.
So you see Shane I am not modest, I know me but I do not want it to become a job, I have a couple of them already, I want the forum to remain a discussion group where EVERYONE has an input.

:iagree:

Good intentions, but methods, ideas, and products change so fast that there is no way anyone could be considered an expert at anything. I've been in meetings where a person with no background in the particular field of discussion throws out a new idea that put the so called 'experts' to shame.

IMHO, a list such as this may keep people from asking anyone but the named 'expert' for advice. I think with a list of experts we would be more inclined to send a direct email to the 'expert' instead of posting it on the forum where everyone could chime in. At that point there'd be no reason to even have a forum....lets just dump it, and have one webpage with all the experts email and personal telephone number listed.

The last time I checked this was called a FORUM, and it is the place for like minded individuals to meet and discuss their interest and experiences. It is my belief that everyone on here has a right to chime in on any subject...not just the so called experts, and by having an 'experts' list you will reduce the significance of the FORUM. Everyone's ideas and thoughts are important.....so this is my thought on the matter!

Jack of all trades.....master of none!

mark

This is not the point at all. It may be how you and some others are perceiving it and I'll grant you that your opinion is as importnat as anyone else's, but you are jumping to conclusions here that have not been intended by anyone.

I am loosing my enthusism for the forum with this change to experts.
In all fairness, all we are talking about is one thread. It can be read or ignored but the process and culture of the forum is unaffected.

While I do not consider myself an expert I trust me more then anyone else.
So you see Shane I am not modest, I know me but I do not want it to become a job, I have a couple of them already, I want the forum to remain a discussion group where EVERYONE has an input.
SO DO I!!!!!! And so does everyone else here. If you could demonstrate to me that this thread is changing the machinations of the C3 forum, for the worse, I will gladly ask for it to be deleted.

Believe me, it the last thing I want.

Or specifically 502 swaps?
There are a number of us who have installed the 502, the other names will surface. MassVette is one, and there are a couple more. Don't forget the ROD 5 and 6 speed swaps.....maybe seperate, as the 5 speed is an easier swap than the 6 speed.
