What's wrong with cheap? So do c5 and c6er's buy their cars just because they're expensive?

The worse cross generation bashing I have seen goes on this forum. Not the C4 Forum specifically but the whole Corvette Forum in general. Visit the other general forums and just watch. What the C4 group says about the C5s is the same thing the C5ers say about the C6 crowd.

I have to admit...it is funny watching the C5 group squeal about C5 pricing being in the tank. Talk about some people having a hard time with reality.... I like all of them too much to bash any generation of Vette...now the jerks that that own some of each generation are fair game.

I just bought my first Corvette about two weeks ago, 91 Vert 6Spd. I feel I bought a piece of history. As I searched for mine and was undecided on a C3 or C4 and which year to buy, I would reference the Corvette History page to see what advancement came in the year of car I was looking at.

I am pretty sure the web site covered all generations and didnt leave any out.

Like I said we all own a piece of history.

That's it, my C4(It's a Ruby) is heading for the junkyard right now. I can't drive a car that somebody, somewhere said a negative thing about.
If you find the person that said it, tell them they have a funny looking hair cut!

You are correct. There are many C5 and C6 owners that hate on the C4. Some C6 owners hate on the C5, not not nearly to the level that the C4 gets hated on.

Like me, you have the only year with the L98 and the rounded front and rear.

At least where I live, I only get waves and compliments from drivers of all Corvette generations. Two nights ago, I was waiting at a light and a C5 driver complimented my 89 vert.

I'm not exactly sure I'd call that negative as much as a statement of fact. It's not all that hard to get an early C4 in good working order for under $5,000. Which is why I'm driving one.

My 2003 Z06 is great looking, extremely fast and in all respects twice the car (and then some) compared to my 89 convertible.

I can't really explain this but if I was forced to sell one today I would keep my 89.

I won't say I will have the 89 forever but if I did sell it I would probably regret it forever.

This section may be the only place any of that makes sense.

Default I get this too !

I was surprised to get this too from the nicest group of people you ever want to meet who own mostly the C2's and C5/C6's. One told me, well, some generations are better than others after I told him all Corvette's are great.

I have a '93 and think it is just super ! You can sit and ride in a C2 and C5, but being in the C4 is like being in the cockpit of a real sports car.

One former Covertte owner told me that back maybe 15, 20 years ago, he bought an early C3 for cheap, cheap, due to lack of demand.

I think it is just the natural order of things, the C4 is the best bargin around right now; too old and not old enough. Just wait 10, 15, 20 years and the C4 will be viewed as another Corvette classic. And, the C5 will be cheap in a few years when the C7 shows up !

I still say all Corvette's are great !!!!

I was tempted a couple of times to upgrade to a C5, but thought it over and realized it wasn't what I really want. I also I've never been truly fond of the body style as it was very rounded but not striking like the early C3s were. Not enough sharp angles.

I've said it before, if I get a different car than what I've got, it'll be a ZR1, a B2K, a Mercedes SL or an Acura NSX. I've driven C5s and they are very nice, have a good ride and impressive performance. I just can't see myself in one unless the price is about what I paid for my C4.

How quickly they forget their roots. If it wasn't for the HUGE leap in technology and styling the Corvette might not even be around anymore. Their cars aren't much different than ours.

They are also jealous under real world conditions the cars they spent 2-3 times as much for are not much if any faster I know I only have 300HP but in everyday driving where the hell am I gunna use it let alone 400-500hp.

There's a few were I work that have c5's and c6's that make comments when I bought mine like "why would he buy a c4, there cheap and not even any competition" I didn't realize this was a competition, what the keck a little money spent on a good tune and some mods and look out! would gladly go to the drag's at grudge night and shut them up!

There's even a neighbor that has a c6 that's yellow same color as my c4 and has made comments to other neighbors "maybe that's all he can afford" he never waves or even looks at me when I'm out, and I don't care, I could of bought with my wife approval any vette I wanted but decided on the c4 and I'm happier then a pig in s**t.

Default Corvette heaven!

Here in my corner of Allentown Pa. lives my 90 coupe, my neighbors 93 coupe, and my other neighbor who owns a 69 T-top and a 04 M6 Vert. I go riding in his 04 now and then and once in a while he goes riding in my Quasar blue coupe. He never says anything negative about my C-4 or my other neighbors 93 coupe. His Vett and his 69 T-top are just gorgeous cars. We all own Corvettes and appreciate them all. By the way my son also has a 75- T top. If any Vette owner looks down his nose at a C-4 just because he paid more for his car he is truely a a--hole. So be it. Now it is sleeting and snowing in A-town and my Vette is covered up and stored for the winter. Man I sure want spring weather again and we have a long way to go. Have a great day. Allentown Ernie.

any others?

a note on the "cheap" issue: they ned to take into account these cars were $28-$35k when new. so yes, these days a base L98/Lt1 are cheap and damn cheap at that. no argument there. where the argument lies is when their C5/C6 gets older and delves deeper into the big depreciation hit. give 'em 10+ more years and the next guy will be calling their cars "cheap" and they will be right.
Bingo........

For those of you youngsters that were not old enough to remember, let me cruise back to 1984 and share with you an experience I had as the C4 corvette was the hottest thing EVER.

I was in the navy saving up for a corvette.

One of the guys in my shop had a brother that had picked up an early C3. They were known to not be as nice a corvette as the newer C3s and no comparison to the C4.

He said it was dirt cheap. He loved bouncing around town in his early C3, even though it was not worth much money it was still a fun car.

NOW fast forward to today..........

Has anyone tried to buy a decent bumper C3 lately?

The early C3 have gone through the roof.

Be patient grasshopper.........

I have a 95A4(9800 Purchase Price) and an 01M6(15900 Purchase Price) neither is a DD as I have a company provided 4WD 3/4HD 06Siverado, and an 00 Cadillac Seville STS for my wife. Anyway I have to make an effort to drive the C4/C5 to keep a charge on the battery and maintain proper air pressure in the tires. I usually drive both of the cars saturday and sunday and they are very different, but I still like the C4 alot and when I am out driving do not see any difference from other Corvette drivers as far as getting a wave from them, the same corvette driver who does not wave when I'm in the C4 doesn't wave when Im in the C5 either, I know sometimes myself when I am caught up in driving the car miss a wave here or there. For it's day the C4 was untouchable by the imports, just as the C6 is today. I think it's pretty cool that a C4 today being at least 13 years old still looks modern, handles well, get good fuel economy.
