Default Shell Gas

I'm watching the Shell Houston Shell Open and they are pushing there new Shell Nitrogen Enriched Gasolines. What do you think? Is it all hype or dose it work.

I have never been a fan of Shell because of a couple of experiences a long time ago. I did however get a tank a couple of weeks ago. No issues this time. How would know if it was hype or not? Is there a chemist in the house?

I have used Shell V-power in all three of my vettes. I really couldn't tell you if one gas is better than the other, most likely all come from the same source. It seems to works good for me. Hopefully the new blend will be good for the engine.

Back when I towed my trailers with gas burning, carburated, 454 Chevy powered duallies, Shell gasoline was the absolute worst gas I could put in it. If you wanted to demonstrate the sound of detonation or "pinging", just fill it up with Shell. Go to any other station, even the cheapest Costco or Wal-Mart style stations and it was fine. Something about Shell's formulation or additive, or lack there of was very bad for me. That was more than 10 years ago, and things may have changed. But in my big block street car, I won't even give Shell a second chance. Chevron with Techron gives me piece-of-mind, even if it's just clever marketing.

As you stated, Shell used to be the worst gas on the market. But I believe they have since corrected their gas formulations/problems and to my knowledge, the current Shell gas is comparable to any top quality gas currently on the market. Even still, I prefer Chevron. I've never heard anything negative about this gas and when I can, that's what I use.

You could not be more correct. All gas comes out of the same pipeline. Oil companies put gas in at one end and take gas out at the other end - but the gas they take out isn't the gas they put in. Oil companies all modify what they take out to call it their own however so in a sense, gas is different, but it all started the same. And as I understand it, regular gas and diesel travel down the same pipes as well and at the same time.

I use Shell V-power exclusively in my Vette, and it works flawlessly. I have a Shell mastercard that gets 5% cash back on all gas purchases, which is nice.

I've heard that they add the ethanol used in most gas after they ship it through the pipeline because the ethanol damages the pipeline. I hope that isn't true.

I'm just wondering what Adding Nitrogen to the mix does to the NoX output at the tailpipe. Doesn't seem to me like it could be a Good thing..

Be interesting to do a before/after smog test and see what the difference is.

The adding of the Nitrogen is what I was wondering about also. I would think they would of tested for that, also what overall effect it has on the fule system

A quick search turned this up about Shell gas. I know their pictures of what it does are impressive but we all know how that goes. Pictues are pictures.

Nitrogen, as an element, is a colorless, odorless, tasteless and mostly inert diatomic gas at standard conditions, constituting 78% by volume of Earth’s atmosphere, according to Wikipedia. Shell is now using nitrogen in its fuel to clean gunk found in gasoline.
Shell is offering Nitrogen Enriched Gasolines, containing a unique, patented cleaning system designed to seek and destroy engine “gunk” (carbon deposits) in all three grades of gasoline. The new Nitrogen Enriched cleaning system protects and cleans up gunky build-up on intake valves and fuel injectors left by lower quality gas, according to a statement from Shell.

Well, I won't be dismantling my heads to look at the valves. I can tell you that.

A few years back they sold a bunch of "bad" gas that was messing up peoples' cars....100s maybe thosands of cars here in the greater Tampa Bay area were affected over the ordeal according to a local news source. A buddy of mine was one of these "bad" gas victims who unknowingly pumped the "bad" gas into his C5 vette. The gas caused the fuel gauge sender to quit working and had other fuel related issues. The good news was that "Shell" paid for the repairs (~ $1,400 for his car - if I remember correctly)....but what a pain in the a$$. My buddy didn't ever use "Shell" gas after that

I don't use Shell gas just because they are usually more expensive than the other stations.......but to each their own.

I've never put anything other than Shell V Power gas in my C4 except for one tank of some other local brand because I was really low. It's a top tier gas, my car loves it and I feel good about using it.

I had the exact same thing happen to me. It took out the fuel pump in 99 Tahoe and did permanent damage to the fuel guage. Ever since then, no more Shell for me. I wonder if "Nitrogen" isn't a function of the nitrates in the corn used to create ethanol?

I won't argue wether or not Shell gas is better than it used to be. But like someone else up there stated, Shell stations in my area are typically higher in price too. Compound that with my use of it years ago, my piece of mind sits with Chevron. I will admit that in my late model daily drivers, I will use gas from almost any station I pass. But when it comes to one of my muscle cars ,or older carbuerated vehicles, I try to avoid the 'ping' instead of hassle with it.

Whether or not this is true, I fell for it, and use Shell in both of my Vettes.

yes its true, 10% ethanol. I no longer put Shell in my vette because of this, makes it run horrible. The last tank I put in was Kroger brand and it was fantastic, I wonder what other gas companies share this fuel.

I use shell regularly because it is the closest station to me that sells 93... But In all honesty as long as its 93 its all the same to me... Oh and my car dyno'd some decent #'s with Shell... and with the mods I have still passed the sniff test... So I have no problems with it...
