HELP!!!!!
My car cost me $12,500 and I can smoke a new Cobra that costs almost 3 times as much. So lets see, if I put a Supercharger on mine... Id be dead Im sure...
BTW, I had a 97 Cobra. If not for the fact it didnt have enuf leg room or head room for me, I would still have it, dont tell anyone! Actually, I am not ashamed of it.
In honesty, I have smoked a few stangs since I got the car, 3 were supercharged. But I dont race on the highway either, only light to light type stuff. My torque (all made at 3800 RPM) and gearing is just to much for the ponies to overcome.
But at 265 HP off the showroom floor, your car is no pooch either.
Rich
i happy that he's into cars and is a very good mechanic to boot. the fact that he likes fords....well to each his own. his 92 constantly is getting rave reviews from all the guys at the track....no matter what they own.......i've seen some vettes here with ...welll....rather pathetic paint schemes, i would never trash them....if they like it...thats all that counts...
alot of the vetts here running low 11's have as much if not more than he has in their cars. i just don't get all the bashing......i hope most of it is in fun....although some seem not......
Joe....zbo2
SmokedurVette,
I like all racecars, even including Mustangs... I prefer domestics to imports, but thats just a personal taste thing....
I will say your statement above is not entirely correct. I have an 85 vette, and I have less than $ 24,000 in it, it would easily run side by side with your 92. Its a very docile daily driven naturally aspirated low compression motor motor that enjoys 27 mpg on the freeway and 17 combined. Its not perfect and certainly nothing special..... but its definitely not a "Old man's high 13's wanna be pimp car".
zb02,
I think everybody is just having fun.... which when you get the type of reaction as they obviously have... it makes for even funner fun.

cheers,
Beach Bum
PS.. I still like my vette better! :D
The Best of Corvette for Corvette Enthusiasts
brings up that 26K for your car, remind him that back in 1986 people were dying for Corvettes and they were the fastest new American cars in those days. Your right your son is a good mechanic based on the mods to the 92. I can easily see how that car would smoke a Viper. Paint looks great too.
SmokedURVette - I don't know why some people get so wrapped up in the Ford vs Chevy rivalry. The Ford and Chevy jokes are fine but why get so personal. Both companies made some really good cars and some really bad cars (Vega, Pinto, Grenada, Chevette, Citation).
I personally have a 73 Mustang Mach I (which gets abuse from some Ford Guys as well) 'Elenor from the original Gone In 60 Seconds' that had a 351C 4V 'there must be some torque in this engine somewhere'.
Good Luck - BTW - make your dad proud and ask him to buy you a new C5.
:hat :hat :hat
btw- without the juice it ran mid 13's on street tires @102 mph
with the juice low 13.1's @107mph again on street tires probaly would run ahigh 12' if i had some good drag tires. :yesnod:
The vette offers incredible objective and subjective advantages over a Mustang. Like others here, I have experience with both. I raced a '94 Mustang Cobra until I purchased my '93 vette. Both cars are incredible.
But my FIRST time driving the vette at Mid-Ohio road course I beat my best Mustang lap times by 5 seconds on a 2.5 mile course. So there you have it. With the same driver, an older Corvette smoked the top of the line Mustang by several seconds. Obviously, my lap times in the vette have improved even more, and I run about 10 seconds quicker than in the 'stang. But it's not an exact comparison as I've made a few mods to the vette since then.
From a factual standpoint, the vette offers a lower CG, independant rear suspension, lower weight, better brakes, near 50/50 weight distribution, and a million little things that show that it was designed for performance. The first thing Mustang guys have to do to road race their cars is move the battery to the trunk to improve the weight balance.
And please, don't counter this statement with the optional IRS offered in the new Cobras. Three different magazine articles I've read said that it offered little to no advantage on a road course due to the packaging and cost constraints Ford had to support.
Not to mention, the Cobra R, the full race ready version of the Mustang, not only costs more than a new Corvette (non Z06), but ran slower lap times on the track than the 'vette.
You obviously get negatives with a 'vette, too. My car is too damn low to the ground to be streetable on a daily basis. My Mustang could also hold four people and a keg of beer. My 'vette barely holds enough clothes for a weekend getaway. But these cars are in different classes.
From a subjective level you have such things as image and appearance. Looks are in the eye of the beholder, but the 'vette has more history and following than the Mustang. It also has an exclusivity that a Mustang will never have. Does that make Mustangs bad? Hell no. I loved mine. But due to the fact that Ford designed a car to appeal to the masses means sacrifices were made. That's why they sell 200,000+ Mustangs a year and what, 20,000 Corvettes? Maybe less?
In my opinion, for a straight line car the Mustang wins in most categories. Slappy is right, he spent a lot less to get a smokin' fast Mustang. But I know which car I'd rather be piloting when that hairpin is approaching...
If anyone responds to this post, please offer intelligent counterpoints, not flames. This is a discussion, none of us have anything to prove. ;)
everybody together now...
Simma down now!
Is there any reason to call each other dumbasses? Aren't we all car guys here? If I said I prefer brunettes I can't imagine anyone would slander me. He likes Mustangs, I like them too. I just like vettes better. My opinion, based on experiences I've had in both cars. I state them, you offer your comments on my statements. It's just that simple, dumbass.
Sorry, had to put that last line in;)

Now while i find it humorous that you can make assumptions that i think i am unbeatable or a jackass, why don't you read your Sig that is what my comment originally started with, i don't think your mustang friends would like it very much if i went over to Stang.net and posted that my corvette was a Mustang Slaughterer Do You? I mean no disrespect, but there are a lot more corvettes that you won't slaughter, and i would invite you up here to see if you can get more "respectable time" certainly the C5's must not beputing up very respectable number either huh?
