funny guys...funny....lol

to answer some of you...

NO...it isnt fubar'ed
no it will not go unfinished

what got me sidetracked was a case of stupidity and a mild dose of joblessness which has been resolved...kinda

i'm living in pittsburgh now...which is 3.5hrs away from the car...with 400 MORE a month in bills than i had before...so to pay my old debt i had to take on more...go figure!

I have about 600 stuffed away in the bank towards my goal of finishing the car. i figure i need about 1500-2000 to finish it to be DRIVEABLE...not finished 100% fit and finish show car done...but driveable...

if i sell the laptop (i REALLY dont want to) i could get another 750 maybe towards that goal...

i'm counting on Overtime making a big return this holiday season...if thats the case, i can order all the parts by spring, take 2wks vacay...and get it running...i really am that close!

distributor, carb, fuel system, accessory drive, radiator, and shifter...
my brother has a ratchet shifter for me, and i figured otu a way to re-use the stock radiator FOR NOW...

that doesnt leave a whole lot left!

I'm posting this for Skruffy
http://forums.corvetteforum.com/member.php?u=229183

Sorry, I'm only half-a$&ed with wrenches .... worse with computers ... (all this is just a hobby ...)

.....(WITH REGARD TO MORE PHOTO'S) ..... I'll hopefully get one of my kids to look into it .....

Seriously speaking, the Big Block just puts the C-4 into a whole different league .....

I believe it is the most sophisticated chassis that a Big Block can be "dropped" into.

Will try to answer any Q's I can and I can e-mail you pic's if needed, as time and skills permit.

This conversion was done years ago, and not by me, so to a degree, figuring out what was done is like forensic analysis .....but it runs and drives very well, so it serves as an excellent template for those that might consider the ZR-2 (there's one in the museum) retro-fit.

1) ..... Installed a 468 C.I.D 1970 LS-6 BB that makes 92% of it's peak torque (560 ft.lbs.) between 2500 and 5500 R.P.M.

2) ...... remove A/C etc., etc., ...... Total weight 3270 lbs. 52/48 frt/rr split.

3) ......Installed ZF6, from ZR1.

4) ....... Installed B&M short throw with grafted on custom ebony Pistol grip assembly from Hemi-Cuda ... (it's nice to have something you can really get a grip on)

5) ..... Hoosier R-6

6) ..... slammed with full Corvette Challenge susp.

very simple to work on.

...should pull over 1.3 lat G's ... drives around Ferrari's ....

HERE IS AN EXAMPLE OF A TECHNICAL ISSUE WE WORKED OUT:

Did you do anything with the Clutch Master or slave Cyl. in your swap?

In my case, the combination of parts from the '85 and the '93 seems incompatible and we think that the slave was used from the ZF6, and now in a pusher configuration, but the master was the orig. from the 4+3 which has a spacer block between it and the firewall.

This block was preventing the Master cyl from 27.5 % of it's potential displacement (that's all GM needed from it to work the 4+3), however , that was insufficient for the stroke required by the ZF6 slave cyl., so the clutch was never right and no one was able to fix it until we figured out this basic flaw.

This was possibly responsible for clutch failures that all look like you describe yours.

We milled the block down to get the full displacement and no problem now.

Also check your clutch pedal pivot point rod. They are a very soft steel that typically will be found with up to 1/2 of it's diameter worn away ( because of the hardness of the Master Cyl. piston rod end) which is magnified at the far end in reduced slave cyl. stroke.

Getting the pedal assembly out is one of the worst jobs on a C-4 but it is absolutely necessary.

Drill out the old rod and reinstall a shoulder bolt in its place.

I can now change and/or inspect my clutch pivot in less than 5 minutes.

My Thanks to Jonnymac for assistance in getting the above information on this thread.

The "ZR-2" Big Block C-4 conversion is a remarkable combination.

You can see "ZR-2" Number 1 in the National Corvette Museum.

It will require that you either possess the fabricating skills of the average street rod builder, or know and have access to people who do, who will help you.

This vehicle has an incredible balance of power and handling. It is an excellent value, particularly when you consider that if you start with a "flood chassis" for peanuts, plus time to shop efficiently on e-Bay for all your bits for example, you can have supercar performance for well under 10K.

I will attempt to help anyone trying this project by reporting what has been done with this vehicle (as best I can), which should be an advantage over speculating about what might need to be done.

Thanks Fubar ...

It seems as though I live about 6 or 7 hours driving time from you, so we'll have to organize a "ZR-2" meet.

Also , when you are ready, I have connections at the track at Watkins Glen (which isn't too far for you) for test and tune time. When the track is not booked, my contact will fit us in for cheap. ....we'll call it the "Rat Run".

i am hoping i can get it running by corvettes at carlisle next year...that is my goal every year but i seem to get sidetracked every time...lol

my interior will be either extremely ratty, non existant, or completely stripped with a cage...i haven't decided...depends on cash...

If you're up for a challenge, try doing a big block conversion on a C4 with a supercharger......... all under the stock hood....

FUBAR IS ALIVE!!!! MUWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

so sorry for not making serious progress in almost 2 years on this car. I have a ZIP file of all pics up to this point for anyone interested!

As it sits, i am carb, fuel system, accessory drive, and distributor away from a running car. my stepbrother donated the B&M Megashifter from his Firebird so i am going to fit that to the vette console.

My Economic Stimulus (read: vette stimulus...rofl) is going towards accessory pulleys and brackets for the power steering. when i started this project i had a bastard time finding pulleys for a SWP BBC. Now even summit has some!

I engineered the front of the car around running a Black Mountain Precision 1" wide Cog Pulley accessory drive, but now March makes serpentine pulleys for use on SWP BBC applications in both underdrive and OD Waterpump configurations. i am truly torn now as to which way to go. I NEED to call MARCH and get the dinensions of all applicable pulleys that fit SWP BBC apps and make a formal decision. I believe i am going with the BMP Alternator bracket and relocating the alternator to the Passenger side where the AC used to be either way, but i wont know til i get the pulleys ordered and bolted up to check alignment and whatnot. IF all else fails i KNOW standard V groove pulleys will fit without issue.

Car will be actually PAID OFF by june hopefully so thats a couple hundred extra per month into Mods to get it done. i am working for near minimum wage right now which blows but it covers my essential bills so i can get things back together in my life...it's been a crappy 6 months or so...moved away from home, lost a GF, moved back, lost another GF, couldn't get a job till the end of feb (moved back in dec)...yeah...fu8n times...but i WILL make a comeback...and I PROMISE TO FORGE FORWARD WITH MY PROJECT AT ANY COST!

just wanted to let you all know i am alive and well...and i will be starting to work on it again soon!

i will NEVER give up on this dream...man i have too many blue oval fanatics and vette haters around here to prove wrong when it's done!

i'm hoping to get in touch with a few people in the near future...btw...how has jesse's attempt at 4 link kit for C4's been doing? i saw his in person at the dragstrip during the summer for the maiden voyage...totally hooked and took off like a rocket!

i know the D36 will not last once the 315's go on the back, so it IS in my future...lol

I'm sweatin' the D36 in mine now that the 383 is in. I installed 3.75's a while back. I'm running BFG DR's in 315 so i'll let ya know how it fares.I also have a 3k stall from Pete K. He said it'll take a bit of the shock off the rear, I'm hopin' it's enough.if I can be sure of everything I'm gonna make the trip to Richmond again this year for the Corvette Nats. it's a bit of a drive from Houston but well worth the trip.
