If I did this right here are some pictures of what’s been occupying my weekends.

This is the Vats wire that shoud go to the ignition switch

Here you can see the male and female ends of the 6 prong connector that isn't connected, anyone know what it's for?

Looks like a $99 special remote starter/alarm install job done by any of 10,000 hack shops.

What’s odd is all the blue wires are all twisted together but on the other end they are connected to different colored wires?

Looks like I wasted $32 at the dealership. I reconnected the vats wires and bought a new key but the ignition will not except the key because of the width of the pellet, there’s no slot in the switch for it. Are all the pellets wider then the key?
I suppose I need a new switch and another key now?

Yes, the pellets are just wider than the key.

That a real mess under the hush panel - who knows what the previous owner/s did in/under there. Disconnect the battery before you get in too deep. If it were me I'd start pulling all that electrical tape and tie wraps off the harness wires where all those blue wires land....wire nuts are not for cars. I'd bet that none of those blue wires belong in there. Take your time and go slow hopefully they didn't cut the wires but only spliced into them. Remove all that extra wiring to see what you got and what needs attention. Your going to need a FSM (factory Service Manual), a volt/ohm meter and a lot of patience for sure. See if you can bride 94vettelover2 in some way to help you with understanding the basics of the wiring diagrams or to just hold your hand. It is much easier to remove a bunch of extra wiring stuff and start over than it is to try to figure out what some else did or what trying to do. This wiring is going to keep you busy for a while though by the looks of things....but hang in there it will be worth it once you get it squared away.

The exterior of the car looks pretty good in the pics...you got the stalker front end and some ground effects and a hood bolt on.

Thats why "they" bypassed the ignition cylinder.Get a new ignition cylinder that obviously matches your key & I will install it for you.I'll also pull the passenger side trim panel for you.But in the meantime straighten out some of that wiring like we discussed & call me after some of that is done & you have a new ignition cylinder. That ignition cylinder is not "factory" or what should be in the car.If you want me to take care of some of that wiring,I'll done it for alot cheaper than the $40 an hour I charge customers as I'm in need of some $ as you know I'm laid off.Maybe I could fix wiring, install ignition cylinder, pull dash & check wiring behind there,do some miscellaneous work,& install those seats you have. Will spend a full day on your car for $100.If sounds good let me know plus I'm younger than you:o& you have those tendon problems in your arm/hand.I'm doing side jobs as much as possible to "survive".Also I thought I would compliment you again on your home-very nice & right on the lake,BEAUTIFUL & you have a very kind wife. You should post a pic of the view on your avatar

Going to have to do the work myself. Like I told 94vettelover2 I just went back to work after being laid off for 30 days short of a year and things are still a little tight.

I removed the steering wheel to replace the lock cylinder and found this in three pieces, according to my FSM it is the (retainer, carrier snap ring?) Is this part still available?

Also what tool is it that I need to use to lock the telescopic from moving so I can depress the lock plate to remove the retainer?

Has nobody gone inside the steering column before that I haven’t received an answer about the telescoping locking tool?

My FSM says it comes with the plate compressor (tool # J23653-C) but the local parts stores only have the compressing tool and the dealerships don’t sell tools.

The problem is if you haven’t any way to lock down the telescopic shaft to prevent it from extending the tines on the compressing tool are not long enough to reach the lock plate. Can the plate be compressed with the shaft in the extended position? If so I suppose I could put a couple pieces of pipe or some deep well sockets behind the tines of the tool to reach the plate?

I have seen posts a while back that talked about it.
I really advise searching AND since this is so far off the original title post a new thread with the issue in the title. That way more people will see it and perhaps chime in with a soultion.

I did create another post to get exposure (Changing the Ignition Lock Cylinder???) but figured it out myself.

Never the less I was able to replace the ignition cylinder
and as I suspected the Vats wires where cut inside the column and it had a regular ignition cylinder in it (non Vats).

The wiring on the other had I think is going to be a challenge. I took all the extra blue wires thatg were twisted togeather off and now I have a dead battery. Something happened that drained life out of it. Yesterday when I was working on the ignition I heard a faint sound of a motor sound or something?

I honstly wish you the best of luck with that wiring disaster.
I have rewired several British (Lucas system) vehicles and Italian cars (worse than Lucas) and would rather work on those than try to straighten out the mess you have.

Probably the blower motor for the AC system. Don't worry about it at this point. If your pulling all those "blue" wires you really should have disconnected the battery first. If you arc heavy gauge wires connected to an older battery you can damage it. Once the main cables are disconnected put the battery put it on a trickle charger. Take your time with the wiring you'll do just fine.

Keep us posted.

Went out in the rain this morning (no garage) and disconnected the battery and put the charger on. I can’t wait to see if it will turn over with the Vats hooked up again. My fingers, toes, legs and eyes are all crossed. LOL!

Thought you may want to see where I’m at.

Were Corvettes made in China? Cause you sure need to be a little person to work on them. I’m 6’1” at 220 lbs with a bad back and torn tendons in my right arm. As you can imagine this was quite the feet for me. I can’t wait to have to put it all back together. LOL!!!

Now I have to make some kind of sense of the mess of wires. All the blue wires that were twisted together I can now see were tied into the EMC wiring. Maybe some kind of Vats bypass? I sure hope that doesn’t mean trouble?

As you can see a mouse or two have called my Corvette home at some point.

I took the carpet up on the rail on the passenger side to see what shape the wires were in that run to the rear of the car and found a black box and a battery. Anyone know what it’s for? One of the battery wires go to ground and the other is spliced into an orange wire that also has a white wire with it but the white wire is connected to nothing.

All the blue wires are spliced into the wires in the two connectors going into the ECM then they are all twisted together with a wire nut on the other end.
