Default SR runner help ASAP

I was goin to add to my previous thread but didn't know if anyone would read it so...I was down to getting the fuel rail off which I did and other little things done. So I took 4 bolts out the passenger side runner and I seriously have messed around for about 2 hrs and CAN'T get the runner off...I'm so frustrated right now I'm ready to torch the car! There is only 4 bolts right? Does the runner slide out a certain way? It does wiggle top to bottom about 1/4 inch but will not come off...I've had a knife, chisel, screwdriver, all down in between runner and intake and nothing!! Please help! I had this off before and didn't have this problem.

Don't deform the mating surfaces with any kind of prytool. Go inside, have a beer, and give it a shot tomorrow with an adjusted attitude

Use your time off to acquire a rubber mallet & use sharp strikes lightly at each end.........almost like "untorqueing" (is that a word)?

I'd guess you have some surface cleanup of RTV, Right Stuff, or whatever you used before you reassemble it

Are you taking the original runners off or are you working with the SR runners? If it is the original....you will find a bolt on the inside of the runners to the intake!

If you are talking about the SR runners....there are MORE THAN FOUR!!!!!! You will find another bolt at the base of each set of runners....therefor six (6) on each side.

Well all I can say is thanks and if I could buy you all a beer I would. I can't believe I missed that bottom one. I even looked several times but I think I was lookin at the intake bolts cuz I was thinking of that...I don't know..I feel so ashmad! I'm goin to hit it again tomorrow and hope to have it all off tomorrow.

Wondering if I damaged these bottom ones from banging and rockin it back and forth...I did use a mallet also... where can one get new runner bolts? Accel or LPE I guess?

They're tough. I used socket head bolts available at one of our local hardware stores called "Orchard Supply" (a Sears owned hardware store). You can get a ball end hex key (I forget what they're really called) that makes the bolts easier to get at. I used it w/ a 6 point socket to drive it kind of like an extension

You should have the just as many bolts as stock.
The middle ones on the bottom, just screw out a little so when you have the side ones out the runners can slide up and out. The very corner bolts(driver rear) (passenger front) are on the inside threading in to the runners

For hard to reach bolts, I used an old allen wrench, and put it in a socket, so I could leave the valve covers on.

I'm going out again later but def. Don't wanna take the valve covers off. I'm goin to go buy a socket with the allen in it.

Anyone ever replace these bolts with something else? Where can I get new ones?

The bottom bolt holes aren't really holes. They're like half holes. You only need to loosen the bolts and then lift the runners out. I've found it much easier to remove the valve covers. I had to grind a notch on the inside lip of the valve covers to clear the runners so they can be removed.

If you can get at those lower runner bolts without removing the VC's, I'd bake you a cake. I took mine off and wondered how in the hell would this be possible without removing them

You can by using a t handle, or like I did cut up an allen wrench, and put it in the end of an old small socket.

I made it, because the first time I did it on my 90' I had to pull my a/c stuff loose, and said no more of that crap for an intake.

I ended up removing everything permanently anyway though.

Try one of these and you can leave the VC's where they sit.

I made this same tool. JB welded the allen head to the socket.
Put a universal joint on it with a long extension and you in biz.

However I dont think I have tried anything with the valve covers on. Why make it hard?

Guess I would have to hook the allen piece to a stiff spring-drive to even try.

On mine, the whole a/c set up, and other unk has to be moved around to get in there to get the pass Valve cover off. Not worth it.

My new mini is slick, and easy though

We are talking about the SuperRam runners. The bolts we are talking about are in the center of the pair or runners front and rear at the base. These are at the same level as the bottom of the valve cover lip. If you look at the picture of the runners supplied by Caboboy, you will see three holes, no slots for the bottom bolts.....although that would be a good idea.

I have not discovered a way to get any type of wrench (even using a universal) past the valve covers to get the bolt between the runners at the base of the runners. The other four bolts, yes you can get to them.

If you are replying to me, I am also talking about an LPE super ram I removed 3 times, and 2 of the times, I used an allen wrench with a socket I made to avoid having to remove the valve covers every time I wanted to work on the intake.

I didn't get a chance to get at it again between work and house related stuff the vette comes last kinda. I'm going to Sears or somewhere tomorrow to get a socket with the allen head in it. If I have to take the valve covers off I'm going to flip!! Last time I did this I didn't care cuz I was taking the heads off...I both hate and miss the SC.

BillMcDonald: Is your SR chrome or polished? Looks nice from what I see...where did you get it done?

Mine is polished and I did it myself.
total pain in the ***. lots of sand paper, and lots of polish wheels with various rouges. then mothers polish with more wheels.

this is what it looked like before I tore it apart and walked away.
Now it is rust colored with twin cool stuff in the works.
