I owned my car for about 10 minutes when I got my first wave from a beautiful stingray that invited me to merge in front of him.

Being part of the 'in-crowd' never felt so good...

Remember the Winston Churchill quote

.....You only opened the door for me because I'm a Lady

"No Madam, I opened the door for you because I'm a Gentleman"

You're a Corvette Owner We need to keep the traditions

Save the Wave

Maybe it's just the area where I live but every Corvette owner here waves to me with some of them initiating it. The only one I haven't had wave was a C6 owner but that's only because I haven't encountered one of them while I was driving my Corvette. Come to think of it, I have seen only a couple of C6s around here at all. What's up with that??

I had an friend who had a great personality many years ago, and he and I used to go out to clubs together. Well, I noticed one night that he went around constantly asking the females in the club to dance, and each time he was turned down. Finally, I asked him...hey that's gotta get to you after a while, ya know , the rejection and all...how do you maintain such a good attitude about it? I notice you get more excited each time you ask a female to dance, and are turned down. How do you stay so up for it? He answered, "Well...I learned after some time, that on average, I had to ask about 8 women to dance with me before one actually accepted....so what you were seeing was me getting excited about finally getting to dance!"

About the last six Vettes I've waved at, did not wave back. Just two more to go, to get the WAVE!

I too was getting discouraged. I even saw a silver C5 the other day, and I told the babe, hey let's catch up to that C5 and give'em a wave. The driver actually went out of his way to get away from me, and stay well ahead. BTW, no C6 wave backs here either...but my vote is still to...KEEP THE WAVE!!!

I always try to wave, some wave back and some don't. It seems the ones that don't are preoccupied and I'm not even sure they even see a vette coming.

I must admit, I do get some strange looks when cruising around in my Ford Ranger (dd) and wave to a passing Vette. We almost need a wave that means 'My other car is a Vette!'.
There is. You know how to make the "O.K." or *perfect* sign, right? You put your index finger and thumb together in a circle, with your fingers extended? Well, you do the same thing to signal you have a Vette also, to a fellow Vette owner...except you simply part your index finger and thumb to make the "O" into a "C".

Here`s my story.....
When i had my car, first I ve had couple of those waves from the other corvette owners.Honestly I wasn`t aware of this hidden club at that time.First times i ignored them (What a dumb thing to do ).Than i realized that it`s an unwritten rule.Since then, every corvette that I see on on the road,I wave at them.
Keep waving

I always wave when close and usually get a return wave, but sometimes not. Perhaps when the weather warms up a little people will be more in the mood.

SAVE THE WAVE

The following is a reprint of an article, titled "SAVE THE WAVE" that is said to have appeared in the Aug / Sep '69 issue of the Corvette News...

Ever since Corvette No. 00001 first met Corvette No. 00002 on the road, their drivers saluted each other with waves. Today, unfortunately, this grand and glorious tradition is wavering. There's one item of standard equipment that comes as a pleasant surprise to every new Corvette owner. It's an instant wave of recognition he or she receives when he meets one of their ilks on the road. The first time it happens, they will be taken by surprise. He immediately thinks:

1) He has been mistaken for Sterling Moss.
2) His lights are on.
3) He has just been given the bird.

Soon, however, the new Vette owner anticipates, indeed even relishes, encountering other Vettes as he drives. During this period, he experiments with his waves, running the gamut from the gaping "yoo hoo" to the ultra cool "two finger flip." He perfects his timing, making sure he affects neither a too-early wave, nor the jaded "oh brother" too-late variety. Determined not to be one upped, he even develops a defense mechanism for non wavers, usually settling on the "Wave? My hand was just on the way to scratch my head" approach. (This is especially useful when you're not driving your Vette, but you forget, and like a dummy, you wave anyway.)

Indeed, one of the most perplexing problems facing a would-be waver is what to do when driving next to a fellow Vette owner. Passing him going in opposite directions is one thing. Greetings are exchanged, and that's that. But what happens when you pull up next to a guy at a light, wave, nod, smile and then pull up to him at the next light, a block later? Wave again? Nod bashfully? Grin self-consciously? Ignore him? Or take the chicken's way out and turn down the next side street? If you're expecting an answer, you won't find it here. Sad to say, some questions don't have any.

Girl-type Corvette drivers also have a unique problem: to wave or not to wave. This miss or misses who borrows her man's Corvette for the first time is immediately faced with this quandary. Should she wave first and look overly friendly, or ignore the wave and look like a snob? Most ladies who drive their own Vettes prefer to suffer the latter rather than take a chance of being misread. For this reason, all girls are excused for occasionally failing to return a well-meaning wave. So are new owners who are still learning the ropes.

There is no excuse, however, for a guy who refuses to return the wave, not out of ignorance, but of arrogance or apathy. While this type of behavior is the exception to the rule, it seems a few owners of newer models [remember this article was written in 1969] refuse to recognize anything older than theirs, while some others simply won't wave, period. Boo on them. These ding-a-lings don't seem to realize that they are helping to squash a tradition that had its beginnings back when most of us were still driving tootsie-toys.

So, when you see a fellow Corvette owner,

SAVE THE WAVE!

Default don't give up

Don't give up on the wave. I was one of those who had no clue at first. It is not because folks are rude, they just do not know the protocol. Wave, thumbs up, or give the peace sign. They will "get it" eventually, I did.
