Heh. This thread is funny. I've had a LEO follow me for several blocks before. Changed lanes to stay with me, etc. Didn't bother me a bit. I wasn't doing anything wrong and we both knew it.
Well I would say he was running your plate for a stolen vehicle check as you are young and it`s unusual to see a young person in a Vette. Once the check came back OK he left. Or, like me he likes Vettes and wanted to see your`s. I have done this many times to take a look at someones car. KIlls two birds with one stone, I get to see a nice car and make sure it`s not stolen . Good Police work if you ask me. I am not getting on you here in any way, i mostly stay out of the cop threads as all they do is stir the pot, but if it was your vette that just got stolen and the cop checked it out, you would be praising him now. OK I`m outta here
sound like harassment me.
one cop was in front of me than he looked in his rear mirror than pulled over. i went past him and he pulled behind me so i pulled over and he stopped at my door and asked if everything is ok.
my question to him was did you look in your mirror and saw a black guy driving and desided to run the plates? he looked at me and drovew off.
but a did tell the police cheff at the town meeting.
In your post and in the description of your car you paint a picture of someone who wants to be noticed. OK, you got noticed, so why aren't you happy now?

What is it about people, feeling 'victimized' for one reason or another? So freaking what you're Black. So, for him to get behind you means something's wrong? For him to ask you if you're okay prompts that type of response? Give me a break!
The ONLY thread I've read on this forum lately where there was definitely sure signs of harassment was a guy and his friend who were in California and got their vehicle searched for drugs because he thought he 'saw them stash something,' and ticketed for 'not using their turn signal' when they pulled over. To top it off, the officer saw the Michigan plates, and said "Michigan, huh? Well, Welcome to California." THAT has been the closest example of harassment I've seen here yet...
The rest of you kittykats need to stop victimizing yourselves with this "uh-ooohhhh... I'm YOUNG so I'm being tailed by a cop," or "I'm Black, so I'm being followed by a cop," or whatever other pansy excuses y'all come up with.
your lucky... young + vette is instant ticket here
whos car is this?

how do you afford a car like this?
with a better paying job.
who are you trying to impress because im not impressed?

i feel if you ask a smartass question you already know the answer to you deserve a smartass responce. :o dont use these answers
Average age 55
Average weight 240 and average height 6'0"
80% are Replublican and consider themselves conservative
Insurance is less expensive for this high performance sports car. This is actual statistical proof that we are more cautious.
We tend to really really take care of our cars. 2-5% deviation at best.
The cars get great gas mileage.
They way some in society view us.
Some in Law Enforcement definetely target us
(for various reasons; boredom, profilling, interest in the cars, look to write a citiation, etc.).
The owners are Reckless.
The cars are dangerous.
The owners speed more so than others.
The cars get poor mileage.
I would venture to say many minivan drivers, subcompacts, SUV's drivers drive
1) Faster overall
2) More reckless
3) Well outside the confines of their vehicles ability
4) Well outside the confines of their abilty.
5) Tend to tailgate, swerve in tight traffic, etc.
6) Be less aware of their surroundings. For my part, I do not even like to park anywhere near someone else that appears to have nothing to lose or does not take care of their vehicle. If they cannot take care of their own vehicles, they certainly do not care about ours.
My two cents of rambling. First thing, I do when I see one the above drivers is get as far away as comfortable and safe.
im 26, 120 pounds,
my vette's milage is way better then my jeeps, with 2/3ds the engine.
Not directly related, but to the cops here i have a question,
would stepping on it from the light up to the speed limit (should take about 3.5 sec) be considered reckless driving? or in short is there any legal problem with that
Realize that cops in marked or unmarked cars have to drive behind somebody during their shift, it just happens. If it happens that you are the car in front of them, so be it. Some times they pick up the pace a little to go somewhere even though its not their call (response) and sometimes they drop off the pace or fall-in behind someone in traffic because they're talking on the radio, doing something with information, observing a vehicle three/four cars in front of you, looking for someone/something not in a vehicle, etc. When you work with wanted posters & pictures you usually want to look at a lot of faces that are in or out of a car. When they patrol a given area they almost always have certain people they like to keep track of, even when they may be in cars. Many more reasons for a cop to be looking at people, cars and places without a specific or general reason/purpose. Don't get paranoid without good reason unless you have given them such cause.
It's called intimidation... It's done all the time around here... Live with it... the less you let it bug you, the better you'll be able to deal with it... Relax... Drive on without letting them bug you.. They are just waiting for you to screw up... At the same time, I know it's a PITA...
It also can be called patrol or proactive crime prevention! Would you rather see your taxes used to provide a car & salary thats parked at the donut shop or some off road dead spot most of the day?

All I know is that I'd become a cop if that were the case
In your post and in the description of your car you paint a picture of someone who wants to be noticed. OK, you got noticed, so why aren't you happy now?
Here is my take on this.... you gave yourself away in the first few sentences,,,
"The cop was far behind you" then came up on you fast and stuck with you...
It is impossible to tell from Far behind who is driving.. even from right behind it is hard...
Ive been driving corvettes for 40 years, No cop has ever done this to me.. even when I was 18.... its not the driver that gets their attention its the manner in which the driver is driving, that gets their attention... or the noise, or the revving and racking the pipes... Also local cops can view unacceptable driving habits while off duty.. So when they are on duty, they may want to harass you for child like behavior... its no mystery...
The kids are the ones who post stories of street racing on this forum. Kids are the ones who like to show off on the street.,,, None of us are blind... and again this is no mystery to any of us...
If you're a show off, you are going to get harrassed...If you act suspicious your going to get looked at...BTW, there are many 40 and 50 year old children driving these cars too....
It also can be called patrol or proactive crime prevention! Would you rather see your taxes used to provide a car & salary thats parked at the donut shop or some off road dead spot most of the day?
I'd rather the LEO did his rolling lookup, confirm whether there is in fact a violation or not, make a clean stop or move on. Defecate or get off the pot. Don't play cat and mouse with popular sports cars.
