The C5...absolute perfection, the lines, interior, comfort, power, mpg(hiway). ..then they broke the mold...
I think the rushed the design of the C6... they incorporated to many styles and ideas from japanese cars(front Mitsu 3000, wheels flares mazda rx) unlike the C5 very unique and timeless.
"Dated" indicating 'old fashion' does not seem accurate as a description of this generation Corvette, especially when compared to the next generation. Although technically there are differences that set them apart, the technologies used in the design of this generation are arguably not that much different. From the driver operational perspective once inside they are very similar. The C5 stands on its own with its smoother body lines and yes with last of the pop-up headlights.
The next generation has improvements and more horsepower, but stepping back to look the engine, transmission, and rear end are of a very similar design. Body styling is still similar although the lines have changed but when you look at the previous generation from the doors forward the C5 and C6 are very similar when compared to the C4. Interior on both does have a very similar look and feel when compared to other year models.
I'd be more inclined to say that both the C5 and C6 cause the C4 design to look dated now. But considering the last C5 is only between 2-3 years old, I would not consider that a qualification of "dated."
It took me exactly 5 seconds to fall in love with the C5.
I have had a chance to look at the C6 for a couple of years now and I still don't like the lines. But I don't like the C3's much either, so I guess to each his own.
i am the same way my wife wants a c3 too not a c4or c6
I love the looks of the C5 and agree with the majority of the above posts. Actually I prefer the hidden headlights and overall look of the C5 better. The C6 has some nice features and of course the "new" factor. Think of it this way; what it the 6 existed now and the 5 came out, it would be all positive reviews.

Manufacturers dictate to us what is "up to date". Planned obsolecence
of form AND function. Ideas of perfection planted to create sales. Sometimes by sheer happenstance they accidently create a classic....What they CAN NOT do is erase from our minds what they have wrought at the time of a new model change. They can HOPE that they can make us feel as though we are not "with it" unless we upgrade by paying them more money to do so with yet another dictated mediocre design. ..... Works quite well on some people.
Dated??? I don't think so, most people think my 98 is a new Corvette. Theres a lady at my job who wants to buy a vette but she's thinking about getting a C5, not a C6 hhhhmmmm
I always find these threads funny... You all sound like the C4 guys when the C5 came out... Of course the C5 looks dated from the headlights, wheel base, and especially the front end. Don't get me wrong the car is beauty and always will be but it is dated by todays standard in styling... But if it makes u sleep better at night keep telling yourself that the C5 is the most modern looking corvette

Proves my point in my previous post. I rest my case.
My wife and I were looking at a C-6 this morning, as my Corvette was getting State inspected and the owner of the dealership was chatting and agreed with us that they shouldn't have changed the hidden headlights. I also find the interior of the new C-6 industrial looking, like a BMW or Mercedes. I like the two-tone treatment of my door panels and dash, the grabrail on the passengers side, ala C-2, the cluster, the finer pleating on the leather seats, and sown in logo. The C-6 has definitely lost SOUL in it's interior. But, like everything, I'll warm up to it eventually.

How does another person's opinion prove a point?
I think it boils down to what kind of lines are preferred on a sports car - smooth curves or hard angles - and which of the two, if either, is considered 'dated'. A purposeful mix of the two looks incongruous to me and will probably look 'dated' quicker than smooth vs. hard. JMO

Sorry MTLNY, You couldn't be more wrong. But I will say, even after I upgraded to a new Z, It would be too hard to give up my C5. The lines are classic and it gives a totally different "coolness" factor when parked to my other vette.

When the C6 first came out, I performed a mental experiment of pretending like the C6 was the "old" body style and the C5 was the "new" body style, and resolved that there's really no way to differentiate between which car would look more "dated." However, the C6 has advantages in the interior and engine department which are very desireable. In the long run, though, I have a feeling I'll stick with my 03 Z06 not only because it will be more cost-effective to mod it to C6 Z06 levels, but also because I love the notchback look and think it's a unlikely to happen again in future vette models.

For me I think it's the pop up headlights which make the C5 look more dated, as there really aren't any new cars that I can think of which have them.

[QUOTE=SPIVET;1558197814]How does another person's opinion prove a point?
Not a put down of his opinion, However the key statement here is: "is dated by today's standard in styling"
The styling "standard" is DICTATED to us by the manufacturer. for the reasons stated in my original post. That's all.

But most seem to agrue that the C5 has a timeless design blah blah blah... in an effort to say their "C5" is not dated compared to the newer cars in the market. Dated has nothing to do whether or not the C5 is a beautiful car...
I think the c5 will always be in style. I like the c6 front end but think the c5 rear is the cars best feature ! Probably my most favorite rear of any car made. Now the c4 thats already dated and in my opion will be the all time least desired vettes ever made ! If you look in any forum section on how many people are viewing the c4 is always half of others. I think my 80 gets more attention than my 99 vert! And we all no the others c1 c2 are classics.
