I just turned 20 in May and also graduated college with an Associates degree in May. Well, after starting full time at my work (Michelin Tire of all places ) I fell in love with a 2002 Z06. Well, the next day I drove 500 miles and bought it! Since then, I've had numerous people telling me I was to young and inexperienced to drive a Vette!? Whats with that!!!
Just wondering everyone elses thoughts on a 20 year old owning a 2002 Z06...
Bought my '69 Shelby for my 19th birthday. Had a good job, could afford it. Caught a little grief from people, but you know what? Now I love telling people at the car shows that I paid $3100 for it with about 48,000 miles on it.
My only advice would be, given that you get it, when the itch strikes to do something else, just garage it so 35 years from now you can tell the "kids" you only payed ex dollars for it, and have had it all that time.
I had another post about the time machine component of buying a cool car when you're young, and keeping it for years. Just talked to a friend who got his 1968 Camaro in 1970, when we were in high school. It'll make great stories, and your kids will love to hear them some day!
Enjoy, and remember you never get to repeat a day - may as well do the best you can.

I get similar comments myself since I'm in my low 20s, but it's mostly the 'you're too young to drive a Vette. You don't have gray hair' BS.
Anyway, I was told the same thing as you about my stock 5.0 Mustang back when I was 16 in high school. By the time I hit 18, I've put over 200 passes at the track it on it, including two different engine combos and forced induction netting in over 450 rwhp. All work was done in my own garage and I rewarded myself by racing my car on the weekends. Several years have past, three Mustangs have come and gone and now I drive a Z06. If I can keep a 450 rwhp + Mustang based on a 1979 chassis in one piece, I'm sure I can handle an easy to drive, corner carving Vette.
not too young but be careful!
Im 20 now and got my first vette when I was 17, and trust me it IS a lot of power. Something your friends probably will never experience or know how to handle. DO NOT AND I MEAN DO NOT let your friends drive your car. You will be asking for an accident. And please dont think your in Formula 1 or Nascar and try to take turns at high speeds. I learned my lesson once when I lost control of my car.
Soon I will get a new C6 and trust me ill always remember to not go too fast on corners... I still get scared around sharp turns from that once incident.
Im 26 and have had 3 vettes so far.(84,99) My current car being an 01 Z06. I love the car and enjoy it very much. Dont let others bring you down. Enjoy your new ride! Congrats!
Screw the haters. Fellow 20 yr. old chimin' in here. You only live life once, may as well enjoy anyway you can.
Sadly... I drive better on the road tracks than i do on public streets hahahaha. ... I get into stupid <2mph accidents in trucks.

If you have a good head on your shoulders, then no.
Be responsible, respect other drivers and do not give in to peer pressure (ie: racing on the highway) Enjoy your ride and POST PICS!!

I agree with the folks who told you that you are too young.
As a senior member of the Corvette Forum, I would be happy to keep it for you and drive it ocasionally to keep everything functioning properly. Until you are at least 25 years old.
Bought first vette when I was 19 - 76 L48 stingray
Bought second vette when I was 20 - 97 A4 Coupe
Bought third and current vette when I was 21 - 02 MN6 Coupe
All bought without help from parents contrary to what everyone seems to think. Just let them drive their V6 mustang and be jealous.
Hey man...That's great! I wanted one since I was 13. I turned 66 last year when I got my first one....well worth waiting for. In fact, my plate reads "1 2W84". Now, enjoy that sucker young man, and be responsible. You have nothing to prove on the highway...you have a vette...that's all they need to know.
Yeah there's nothing wrong with having a Vette, people still think that you cant have a C5 for less than $30k so they tend to stereotype you and say you are too young. They wouldnt say that if you were in a new VW which would easily cost more. I just dont think people know how affordable C5's are getting considering it's a world class sports car. I bought mine a few months back and redeployed back to the desert and it sits in the garage waiting. Enjoy the thing and fAck what people think. I'll be 25 in Sept. my $.02

Cool, wish i had one at your age, piece of advise: save the high speeds and racing for the track, and you'll prove em all wrong.
Greetings from a 52 yr. old. No you are not too young. It's not about age, it's about being responsible. Congratulations on your new ride. I have a 17 yr. old who wants one too. I'm proud of you for taking care of your education, working and buying your own car. Seems that you are responsible and have a head start on life. Remember...be careful...you will be tempted!
