Can anyone clarify exactly which LEDs I need for the footwell and cargo lights? I saw on the front page and followed the link, but it appears that autolumination no longer carries that specific size anymore...? Also, are the ugly orange LEDs in the electro-rearview mirror replaceable? I REALLY hate that color...

EDIT: Also, which size LEDs do I need if I'm going to put them in the bases myself? 3, 5, or 10 mm...?

Any 194 type LED will work, I believe Oznium sells them too...

Are you takling about the Maplights? Yes those can easily be replaced, remove the lenses and you'll be able to remove the little PCB boards that the LEDs are soldered unto... one for one swap (5mm LEDs).

Which bases are you referring too?

Sorry - I should have clarified...

I was referring to the "bases" of the factory lights (such as in the door switches)... if i can get the LEDs for ~ 50¢ each versus $4-5 for the ones that are already assembled (the B & C-type NeoWedges, maybe...?), I'll save myself some money and do a bit of soldering...

You said that any size 194 LED will work, but there are a LOT of different ones, some of which appear too large to fit in the housings... do you recall which ones you used? I'm not trying to be brighter than the surface of the sun here, but I'd like a little more light in the floorboards and the trunk area...

Regarding my question about the rearview mirror: i was actually referring to the orange light that is always on in the bottom/center of the mirror that provides a faint glow on the center console. I'm really not a fan of the orange, and would prefer to change it to something else... brighter maplights would be nice too, but I read the how-to on spdklz and saw where there was an issue about some of the LEDs being brighter than others... not too keen on that idea.

For the Type 74 bulbs a 3mm (shaved for better light dispersion) works great!

A standard type 194 base "should" fit all the sockets for the footwell and cargo lights. I used a Super Matrix in the cargo lights originally, I now have the custom JW Motoring cargo lights. One really neat trick is to use a LED strip across the width of each footwell tied into the footwell socket wiring or via a 194 adaptor with a pigtail...

I know some guys have replaced the Helper LED, I haven't personally but if you can pop that dome cover off it should be pretty straight forward. If you use Red, Orange ior Yellow the Maplights work great... Blue, White or Green requires a slight modifcation to get all of them light up to full brightness...

JW has some killer Reverse lgihts at an excellent price...

License plate... The best looking ones I've seen are module looking ones. I have some 194s in there and they are OK.

If you want something brighter for the tag lights we have a kit for that as well. The 194s will also work and provide a nice light. These strips are bright!

I've got the same question and didn't really follow the answer. I've already got addtional lights installed in each area and don't really need the super bright options. I just need some replacement bulbs for the existing slots. Looking for as inexpensive as possible which is why I haven't just purchased from JW yet.

Suggestions on the 194 bulbs for these two spots?

Ours are only $15 per set (194s). The cheaper ones usually don't last as long. Those usually flicker and burn out after a few months. This is why I only offer one version of the 194s for the interior.

The other fancy kits are for those that want it all. Nice and bright like myself

For the Footwells, you'll need a side emitting bulb as the socket is perpendicular to the output lense. There also isn't much space in there so shorter the better. Maybe something like this;

http://superlumination.com/images/au...us_6led_wm.jpg

The cargo lights need mpstly a forward facing bulb with maybe some side lighting. Something like this;

JW does speak the truth about cheap bulbs, been there done that!

This just became too complicated to get figured out which 194 blubs were the best fit and a quality product. I didn't want to buy twice, so I'm buying the interior lights from JW! Getting some rear side marker lights at the same time.

The first thread tells how many LED w/resistors to use for the radio and hvac unit but if you want to do the door switches, HUD and DIC with the LED/resistor combo do you just buy the same amount of LED/resistors as it states for the NEO's? Also it doesn't state what size LED to buy for those. It states 5mm for the radio and HVAC but not anything else for the option of LED/resistor.

I'm using blue for everything so has it been proven better to remove the blue film in the radio and use foil tape? Or leave in the blue film?

A lot of question I know, sorry!

I'm getting ramped up to tackle all this soon. I've been reading this thread for awhile now and think I've got everything down.

I also found a site that sells LED's and resistors on the real cheap!

What is the difference between carbon film and metal film resistors?

Thanks for the super helpful information in this thread!

Yes you use the same amount LED/resistor combo as one NEO... Always buy a few extras also!

I use 5mms in everything except the Dimmer/HUD switches, for those 3mms work better. the resistor values remain the same for 5 or 3mm.

I keep the Blue film in the Radio because you can not remove it in the HVAC buttons and I don't want any color differences.

I believe the carbon fiber resistors might be a little cooler, not 100% sure on that one though....

Post up some pics when you got it all done!

Tim,

Thanks so much for the help! I appreciate the advice!

Funny, it never crossed my mind about taking the film out of the radio and not out of the HVAC. Very good point. I'd be ticked if they came out different colors. Thanks for saving me on that one!

Ok, I've only ever seen carbon until this site I went to so I just figured I'd ask. Knowledge is power! Haha.

I definitely will post up some pictures. I'll be ordering the LEDs/resistors tonight so it might be awhile. Thanks again!

Um ya so nobody would happen to have a extra 241 chip laying around would they?

I managed to crack one in half while resoldering it to the board.

Argh.
