It really wasn't that hard. I went into it with ZERO soldering experience! I took apart an old alarm clock and practiced on that before the actual unit. Also bought a fine tip soldering stick, solder vac and a stand with alligator clips to hold the stuff. I also bought all flat top LEDs so I didn't have sand them down and the light pattern was much wider. This post and Tim were a HUGE help. I'd go for it!

argh, I broke the lens that covers the under hood light after installing an led replacement, any idea of the gm part # or a place to get a new one?

This LED stuff is quite fun!

another mod I would recomend is changing th amber indicator leds to different colors to reflect what they actually do. The rainbow effect as tim calls it! Makes a big difference and is quite easy because you dont have to use resistors. Just solder them in!

That is a pretty neat idea. Looks like a christmas tree! LOL. I have to go back in to take the radio out, I may just do that while I'm in there. Thanks for the pics!

OK here is a rundown of various parts and options you’ll need to change your color. These parts are tried and true BUT not written in stone of course. The Type 194 and 212 Festoons listed are what I ended up using, there are many more options out there. The NEO Wedge Type A and B are a direct replacement with a resistor built into the base of the LED. Oznium has begun selling them as well, http://www.oznium.com/corvette-c5-led for $2.49

ntroducing the Supernova 3 chip 5050 SMT Ceramic Super-Charged LED Bulb
3x Brighter

i think its the second one down. is that the one im looking for the interior?

They have come out with several new NEOs since I've done this and I haven't purchased any to try them out. You have to be careful of the length on the bulb or it'll bottom out... Your best bet is to by a few different ones and see which ones work best.

I got a problem. I originally did all my bulbs with neo wedges from oznium. They were all a light blue almost cyan like. Then I ordered blue smt single and duel neo wedges from autoillimination and they are a much darker blue. Almost like royal purple. Even the 5mm blue LEDs from oznium are much darker than the neo wedges. WTF? Do I have to go back in there and start al over? I kinda like the lighter ones better to. I need help!

This is one of the problems with Blue, there are tons of different shades... I just got done doing an entire interior in Blue and out of one batch of 200 LEDs fromt he same manufacturer I had three distinct different shades/hues going on and I had to go through enough of them to get enough of one shade to complete the job.

It's a PITA... your best bet is to stick with one source, even if you have to go back and redo work you've already.

I wuold SO do that so all the buttons would light up red in my car, but I would never attempt at this because I have no experience with electrical stuff, and would seriously mess some crap up LOL

All of the lights except one in my HVAC control are burned out. I wonder what caused that to occur.

Anyway 1 LED installed, 12 to go. Man I wish I would have gotten a couple more colors for the bottom buttons, oh well.

Oh yeah, and awesome thread tstar.

are you going to do the amber indicator lights? No resistors required. Just solder in discreet leds. 3mm.
