NEW Interior LED Mod Thread

Someone needs to make a full list of:
1.) LED sizes (for each specific location). (3mm/5mm/10mm) Door SW's, TC button, HVAC, Radio, Instrument Cluster, Dash..etc...
2.) Shaved bulb or not Shaved (for each specific location)(Maybe the new Straw hat Wide Angle LED?)
3.) Resistor sizes (for each specific location). Some places don't require a resistor I'm reading ?
4.) Recomended MCD brightness for each LED in each specific location.
This is confusing....

I guess some of its on post #1...

Thanks

they're to just post new questions regardless of how many times they've been answered!
It's amazing how damned hot the hood bulb gets (and how quickly). I have to use my leather welding gloves to remove the damn thing, and it causes them to start smoking after being on for just a few seconds!
Be careful, folks!

Where are you finding your 5mm and 3mm Flat Top "WHITE" LED's at that have a brightness of 6000-10000 MCD ?
Everywhere I have looked they are all 20000MCD brightness...
Thanks !

I also have the Euro lenses and have always wondered about LED's for the rear tail lights. Did you put them in both the turn signal and the brakelight sockets? If I want to keep the yellow for turn signal do they make that 3157 in amber? Also, do they seem not as bright as the bulbs you had? I have been told that LED's would not be as bright for taillights...

For my new red 3157 turn signals in the clear housings.... I would say that these are at least as bright as the original amber bulbs I had in there before. Maybe brighter.
The picture below makes it look like its Yellow... but its actually a very bright RED ! I was surprised how far off the picture was on the color....
I like that its a bright red that matches the red brake light housing, and when the car is off you can't see anything in the clear housing.
I got mine at Auto Zone. I can't find it on there site right now, but It was in the store. I think maybe they did have Amber too, but I can't remember for sure.
There are also a few options on this site for you too.

I have the switchbacks in my front's as well but have had some issues. They worked fine the first week or so and then suddenly they never switch back to amber...always white even when turn signal is on? I wonder if that is an issue with the harness I installed inside for hyperflashing or if it is the switchbacks themselves? You experience any issues at all?

I just have not been able to find a flat top white LED that's rated low enough in brightness though. I want it to look nice and bright... just not blind me while driving...
I can only find 20000MCD flat top LED's. I want some 6000 and 10000 MCD brightness flat top LED's. I was hoping to avoid having to buy regular round LED's and shaving them all down to simulate the flat tops... I guess i need to find someone on here that did white in there in gauges and find out what they did.
I have had my Switch backs installed for a couple years now. Never had a problem with them. Maybe you have a bad connection at the bulb ? Neither of them switch to Amber ? That's really odd...
I also installed the hyper flash harness to get rid of the turn signals flashing twice as fast. Maybe try to re-seat the bulbs, and maybe try putting the stock ones back in... see if the stock ones do the same...Maybe we will meet up at an event this summer and you can see my setup...

Nice improvement in lighting though. Makes all the other lighting look "yellow" though. I have a plan for that..

Thanks for the tips on this. Made it super easy.
It was more of a pain to put the little suckers back up in the mirror more than the soldering.
Yea they all light up perfectly and even. Much more of a dramatic effect seeing it in person for sure. I'm glad i started on this part. I'm working on my soldering skills again. Its been a while...
Enjoyable though....
If anyone is curious.... I had trouble taking my pics in the dark for my before and after shots. What I did was I got my wife's camera and her tri-pod. I set the camera to leave the shutter open 1.6 seconds for both the before and after shots (you can experiment for your situation with delay times). They seems to turn out ok if I did that. In AUTO mode you could barely see anything at all.

I got have on order:
- 100x 3mm WHITE LED's 8000mcd-10000mcd
- 100x 470ohm resistors (for White LED's)
- 10x 3mm BLUE LED's (HVAC cold dial)
- 10x 3mm RED LED's (HVAC hot dial)
- 10x 530ohm resistors. (for Red LED's)
I should have them in 2 weeks. It was hard to say no to $7 delivered for 100x LED's and 100x resistors...
. Down side is that its a 2 week delivery.. I will have to pick a weekend I can work on this then to replace the rest of the lights in the car.
. Middle of Feb likely before I finish this. Should be fun, and a dramatic improvement inside my ride... Toque

I was in the garage getting things organized and I was messing around with a few of my spare LED's. I have been thinking about this the last few days. I hooked up an LED and took note of how the emitted beam pattern was. I then used a little 400 grit sand paper and scrubbed the entire led till it was "Frosted". I noted that the beam pattern from the frosted LED was much wider and the entire lite emitted from the LED was dispersed. I think I might do this to all of my LED's I install. It might help with any hot spots etc...
Anyone done this before ?
