There is an R/T in my neighborhood driven by a kid in his early 20's. It's a nice looking car and has an amazing sounding aftermarket exhaust and I thought they might be worth looking at. Since we're are in the market for a fun car we went to check one out. We drove a black R/T that looked and sounded great but was an automatic. The driving experince was kinda so-so. but, the thing that killed it for us was the 35K sticker for an R/T. When the Salesman asked what I thought I told him for 35K I'll take a Vette.
Sad part about it is IMO the Camaro isn't much better price wise. A near-by dealership qouted me an SS with a $1500.00 markup bring the price to 38.5K and other dealerships are asking 40k-45k. Hell, I've seen C6 Zo6's for 45k at Carmax.

My dad and his buddies each bought one when they came out. One, guy paid 68k, the other paid 54k, and my dad drove 600 miles and got his for 46k lol. I love the car for just driving around town, but it's nothing compared to my z.
Car and Driver ran a Challenger SRT in 13.2@107 for the quarter mile. thats what my 99C5 ran.. The C5 Z06 will do 12.4@116 I think that sums it up.. Even though there a cars with a lot more power out there, you have to remember the Z06 has a huge advantage in the weight category, as well as the close ratio M12 transmision. Its all about the power to weight ratio
motor trend tested one it went 14.1@101, ss camaro went 12.8@ 110, mustang 13.4 @104 if my memeory is correct. times may be off a tenth or so. the dodge looks great, but just weighs too much. My dad just got a cts-v but he won't let me drive it lol It runs pretty darn good though.
Ive played with a few of them and within a very short burst of whatever gear I was in it was over. I slowed up for them but they refused to come back up next to me...
The C5 Z06 will do better than that. As I said above, the SRT cars are about even with the LS1 C5 cars, which IMO is impressive.
The correct wording is "The C5 Z06 is CAPEABLE of running better than a 12.4@116. Its all about the sixty foot time.. There are guys like Ranger who have run high 11 second times on a stock Z06 and then there are guys who struggle with high 12 second and low 13 second runs.. The 12.4@116 came out of Car and Driver Magazine
Never driven the Challenger SRT8 but have driven the Charger SRT in addition to currently owning my 07 Jeep SRT8. All i can say owning both is that each has its own ability. The Z is just fantastic to drive and the weight is everything for these cars. i swear it feels like such a toy compared to my jeep. But as said before the Jeep's can be fun...at least off the line. they sure are heavy but with that AWD, the 3.70 gearing and the 420 hp: that thing hauls! When i first got my jeep, it was a toss up which i wanted to drive more. Anyway, i know it was off topic but i agree with the group that the SRT's are nice, but the C5Z's are certainly tops!
No need to be a dick and do not believe everything you read in a mag. They regurgitate factory specs a lot of times. Corvette Action Center has the actual Factory Release memo for the 2002 model. I find it hard to believe any magazine would duplicate their claims.
I'm not being a dick, you are pissed because I caught another new forum member making statements that are false.. Car and Driver has no reason to hide numbers or to not do a road test.. They have been around for over 30 years.. Here is what Car and Driver says.. But I guess they are not credible and you are .. I will make sure to cancel my subscription to these liars
Chevy claims the car will sprint to 60 mph in 3.9 seconds—0.1 second quicker than what we achieved. We couldn't match the company's times for the 2001 Z06, either, but this time we're much closer, exactly matching the time and speed predicted for the quarter-mile.
