oh yeah, think of anodizing alot like coloring easter eggs, raw parts are generally dipped into a charged bucket of color, when finished have a semi-transparent apperance

they will flash with and without headlights. Remember that in DRL mode, the turn signals dim to flash and while in parking/headlight mode, they brighten to flash. In either case the high power wire is what goes on and off.

I think i just found my new favriote finish.... I've been looking for a way to turn stainless into a "gunmetal" finish to combine super strength and corrosion resistance with a wicked color.

I am torn, I have 1 idea for you that I am sure you have already thought about and then a wish statement.

If heat is going to be an issue why not make it a HID set up with low and high beam. The heat signature on HID's is less than half of what a conventional light puts out. It looks cooler and not to mention kills anything else on the market for night time visibility.

I wish that someone made a projector flip light that when open is similar to the 02 Fire Birds and TA's, about 3" tall and less than a 45 degree angle vs the damn near 90 degree angle of stock. And the option of a projector style or with HID low and high beams..food for thought.

The heat from the bulbs is not the issue. It is sunlight being focused through the projector lens on to the surface below it. Have you ever burned an ant with a magnifying glass? Also these kits will have the option of using HID. Have you not been reading this thread. I know it's long. Also for a flip up sys. see this thread.

Please do not ship my set until I see a mock-up of the completed units with the eyebrows. I am stil not sure if the halos are going to work for me or not.

I ran aroudn town today trying to find someonee that could cut the tubing at the angle and tolerance I want.....nobody thought they could do it in the timeframe i needed.

....thankfully, a friend of mine (from my corvette group ) Loaned me his chop saw. Since I'll be doing the cutting, I can ensure the exact tolerances I need.

still hoping for a finished product pic by tonight.

George - Tip of the Hat to you. Most would be pulling their hair out by this point. Looking forward to the final product. Did you ever get in touch with Joe about the install? My car is going to be 100% by mid January and the lights would really put the finishing touch to it.

I don't think I talked to Joe yet.

BIG Update: After finally cutting the aluminum shrouds, I found out they just plain don't install well. There is no way to install the shrouds when mounted on the car. They won't fit in front the front at all, and they won't fit in from the back with the projectors mounted. As a result of nearly 3 weeks, countless work hours and more $$ than I care to waste, I'm calling the bezel/shroud idea failed.

I’m reverting back to the original (last resort) concept that Specter Werkes did on their C5R kits: frosting the upper part of the focusing lens.

To give you guys an idea of what I’m dealing with, here’s a comparison of the ½ Frosted versus the total clear. I used a lamp to simulate the sun. The black arrows show the focal point of the lenses.

On wood:

On ABS:

As you can see, the clear lens focuses the light VERY well while the half-frosted lens distorts the focal image into a blur that just isn’t hot enough to do any more damage than unfocused sunlight. What worried me was how frosting the top of the lens would affect output…..needless to say I did a comparison:

Low beam comparison (I’ll let you guys guess which was the frosted lens….I was REALLY impressed with how they came out)

1)

2)

High beam (the frosted lens suffered a little drop in output on the top, but not a while lot. The plus side is that the frosted lens makes the high beams significantly more visible to other drivers from all angles)

.5 Frosted:

Clear:

Side-by-side comparison of high beams:

ALL of the projectors from this point will be half-frosted as a permanent solution to prevent sun-damage.

Important note:
As a result of additional testing, I am cancelling the following options: (if you ordered them as part of the GP, I will contact you about your options

- 100w high beams: the first one out of the box exploded after being lit for less than 60 seconds.

- LED strip option: They are simply a pain to install and would easily take away from any “plug and play” I would attempt to have with my kit. If you are interested in adding this to your lights, you can purchase them from oznium.com in a variety of colors.

I’ve also tinkered with some eyebrow designs. I used electrical tape to simulate a black painted surface:

The final mounted version will be installed tomorrow and I will have pics in the evening.

So with all projectors being frosted, I assume there is no need for an eyebrow anymore other than cosmetic? Also, I assume that halos are no problem again.

ACK! Refresh my memory... do we have other options for higher than stock output on the high beams?

The eyebrow would only be for cosmetic use.

The HIR bulbs are the only upgrade option i offer to the high beams. While they are brighter, I dont' think the performance will be that significant outside of the shop in my test shots.
