Aluminum takes to being painted quite well especially with a good primer and quality paint.

What wire are you talking about, as far as cutting? When I installed Depo's on my FRC, I remember removing a small harness for the motors etc, I didn't have to cut anything, there was a quick disconnect on them

General Question: how many of you plan to paint the main shroud, lens and/or the aluminum projector shroud?
At this point I am not sure what if anything will be painted. Need to see the final product and how it looks on the car. I want them to look like they came with the car not an add on.

bezels arrived 5 minutes ago. The final "base" version will be installed on my car tomorrow (I have a lovely sinus cold that's not very condusive to particulate Aluminum, ABS and PETG shavings)

The good news: the prototype lights have been on my car now for over 2 weeks in everything from 90+ degree days to snow and rain. An initial concern from one of the meembers was concerning condensation buildup. I noticed that evern when the windows fogged up like mad, the headlights were still clear because of the magnitude of ventilation allowed in the design.

The final design incorperates a LOT of adjustment options to fit just about any car (including those that have had body work done)

Since none of the cars in my inventory have OEM headlights anymore () The install guide will include a mix of previous install guides. I will be showing you how to install the kit on my car. (i will make a video as well which will be made available on youtube for easy access)

Stay tuned for finished pics....and the first SLC GP!!!

Been reading this thread off and on for a month and I gotta give you mad props for all the work you've done on these lights. Tho upgrades on my 01 vert aren't in the near future these or the cannons are definitely on my wish list. Keep up the good work.

That's the plan.

Unfortionatly there's been another slight setback, the aluminum shrouds miss the main lens clearance by about 1/4" (see pics below)

The final plan is to have the Aluminum cut at an angle (as pictured) The sunlight will still focus on the same area, but the aluminum will not be affected.

In addition, my hardwaree supplier sent me the wrong size bolts
I will be contacting them to get the proper size shipped out ASAP.

On a brighter note, the heavy mist and fog allowed me to capture some awesome shots of the prototype setup:

I apologize, but I am confused by the above bold statement. Are you saying that after you cut the top of the aluminum bezel to clear the lense that the sunlight will still be focused and potentially burn a hole in the shroud, or the sunlight will still be focused but the focal point will hit the inside of the bottom portion of the aluminum bezel? Help me understand, just trying to picture this in my head. TIA!

I like the bezels BTW! I think they will look killer in a nice brushed and clear anodized finish.

Also, if it's the latter, what happens when the sun hits at a different angle? Would the focus now be beyond the bezel?

If we powdercoat the bezzle, are we going to burn a hole in our powdercoating?

There is only a certain few degrees where the sun will actually refocus the light (it's about a 10 degree span) Above this, the sunlight doesn't hit the lens at all and below this, the incoming light does not focus.

The purpose of the new shroud design is to put the aluminum in the "danger zone" of where the sunlight will focus. Aluminum is renound for it's heat dissapating qualities and is often used in radiators and heatsinks for this reason.

powdercoating will be dependant on the type of powdercoating used. There are some techniques that are used on exhaust headers (that will get WAY hotter than even focused sunlight)

At a customer's request, i will paint the aluminum bezels with high-temp black.

I'll fly you out if that deducts from the $1275.

Couldn't something be done like the DEPO lights, where you have a small aluminum piece beneath the projector to protect the shroud?

Like this...

Please tell me these will arrive before Christmas, lol I hate pressuring you but if I dont get them before then they may have to sit around for a while, at which point I might as well sell them

Default Wow

Based on the above picture I will be installing just as they are. No paint as I feel they are great looking and will look like they were standard equipment.

Yes, the aluminum will protect the shroud.

I'm hoping to have these ASAP, but getting them by christmas may be cutting it a little short. This stupid bezel fitmant issue is what's holding everything up. If i thought everyone was going to paint their main lens with an eyebrow, it would solve the problem.
