I got my first Vette at age 31 - now on my 9th. But I am now retired from the Navy, from the state of Missouri and am working to just keep me busy. And while the hairline is receeding, I still have a good amount on my head.
Hope to retire some day, am 48. My ex. made sure I was on the freedom 85 plan
Am folically challanged and have a "distinguised" beard - silver/grey.
Got my C5 at 46 and loving every drive I can take in it. No second childhood or mid-life crisis have loved 'vettes as long as I can remember.
Have been blessed with a wonderful new wife of 10 years, she loves riding shotgun when we go for drives and trips in the 'vette. Life is good
Retired from commercial Aviation on 5/1/2007 at 49, bald, started loosing my hair in my early 20s. I've own a Vette since 1976, I was 18 then. For the exception of 12/2004 through 8/2010. During this time I drove A Cadillac and a Lamborghini Murcielago tube chassis kit. Built by me between 2002 & 2005.. The Lambo built was my midlife crisis, 190lbs 6'0" and Yes, I still get excited when I see an attractive lady.
1/3. Retired 4 months ago at 60. I was told by someone that I respected that: "just because you act childish that doesn't mean you're a kid anymore." I am looking forward to my second childhood!
About 3 more years here. But have had enough vettes in my life time. Have 2 now and just love to play with guys that pull up beside me and see a 60 plus old man then get there door blown off. The wife has took me been in my 2nd childhood for the last almost 30 years.
Retired, not fat, not bald but thin on top. Been driving Corvettes since 1973. I went to Bloomington Gold for the first time in 1980 and was a typical age of those there. I went to Bloomington Gold two years ago and was still the average age. HA! I think the cost of today's Corvette pushes the average age up a bit.
54 still working and love my job. Full head of hair but shave it, cause I like the bald look. 1st was a 89 2nd 98 vert and love it also love my 05 Harley Ultra Classic.
Let's see. I purchased my first Corvette a '67 Vert at 19 years old in 1970. I have owned two C2's, three C3's and one C5. Total 6 Corvettes over my lifetime and I am now 59 and will turn 60 next month. Since my first Vette I have owned a Corvette every year except for maybe 2 years of the last 40 years. I own 3 Corvettes today. I am semi-retired so my wife and daughter tell me. Still run my business but not full time anymore but I rarely turn down a sale. Playing it by ear right now as to when I feel like retiring fully. Don't have all my hair like I once had and put on a few pounds over the years. Still like driving all of my collector cars while I still can.
I'm retired Military; we have mandatory retirement at age 55. I still have a full head of hair and for tax reasons I don't have the urge to find a job at present. I'm enjoying having spare time and being able to go driving, flying or boating any time I want. Must dust off the golf bag too when it gets warmer. It's also great not having to move house every three years or worry about where the next TDY will take me.
I'm 37 and have 7 more years of playing Army before I'm eligible to retire. Full head of hair - cut very short though. Morning PT keeps me from getting too fat. Happily married with a 12-year-old boy, so the Vette is not to pick up chicks.
Was it a mid-life crisis? Could be. I was hopped up on percocet after ankle surgery and looking forward to my fourth deployment. I'd always wanted a Corvette since I was 7, so in my altered state of mind I grabbed the best looking red C5 on the internet. Love every mile behind the wheel! Now it is patiently waiting for me to get back from Korea.
But I'll bet I was about the youngest guy driving a Corvette around Columbus, GA. It does seem like they are driven mostly by old, bald, fat retired guys.
Retired July '04 after 23 yrs. of working for a living. Bald is how I would describe me but not overwgt. Had 2 vettes in my time but the first one really doesn't count because I didn't get to keep it long enough and it was over 20 yrs ago. Got my 2nd last May and intend to keep it. About the childhood thing. Im not sure. Somedays my wife says I act like a ten year old and sometimes she thinks I'm an elder statesman-genius. It makes for a fun household.
Retired at 62, 2 years ago. Bought my second vet, a C5, Torch Red Convertible, 6 speed in September, 2010. My first vet was a 74 purchased in 79. The worst car I have ever owned!
