The reason I feel so strongly about this is because at 19 I was on the shoulder of an expressway with car trouble, I was hit by a drunk driver, they estimated his speed around 85 mph. Before that time I had never had a headache in my life, have had one since, not to mention a broken neck. It has changed my personality (for the worse thus my nickname Pounder) It cost me my marriage, girlfriends, jobs, you get the picture. It has limited me in every way !!!!!!!!!!!

I am sure when email was in its first 10 years people thought sending emails and not real mail was living in a fake world. Change it happens and if you don't go with it your left in the past.

I may have misread or understood your post. you stated you don't text and make calls as that why its called a conversation. I took that as all the time. I agree texting and driving is wrong. But so is dogs in laps, eating, makeup, and a bunch of other things. I don't do it as like others I have been almost run off the road while others do this.

And I apologize if I misunderstood.

I will use the phone in the car to talk but not without bluetooth hands free and very limited. As far as your numbers for texting, every kid you see in this world has their face planted in the phone!!!!!!!!!!!

It's not just kids! It's pretty dang near everyone. It's actually scary. And the thing that gets me is I've seen about every kind of cop you can think of; town, city, county, state; IMMEDIATELY behind someone that had a cellphone stuck to their ear while driving and I'm NEVER seen anyone pulled over for it. The law is a freekin' joke when even the cops laugh at it.

Need any more proof?

From the NY Times article "Text messages now outnumber mobile voice calls three to one, according to the Nielsen Company. Monthly messages sent or received jumped to 584 a person in the quarter ending in September, a 60 percent increase from a year earlier. " and that was from December 2009

GA doesn't have the no talk but does have no texting and driving. Only thing is its so hard to prove in court. They lose more then not. Also with the use of internet based messaging its not as easy as getting phone logs. Its more involved and usually not bothered with unless there is an accident. But they win under distracted driving which could mean anything. You looking down for 2 mins while most likely on a phone but if they don't see the phone they can' prove it. But you are still distracted!!

It's literally like playing russian roulette except your putting the gun to someone elses head...I think we are going to sell our Harley, I have had too many close calls the last few years and it's just not worth it anymore... the only place it doesn't seem to happen is when we are riding in the mountains in colorado.... I guess those folks know if you aren't paying attention you are going OFF the mountain.

Ok so your saying me texting someone while sitting home is like jumping off a cliff. WTF?? I said I was against driving and texting my point was based off the guy who said he doesn't text as that is not a conversation. The reason why texts outnumber voice calls is because its easier and preferred. I don't think anyone preferred jumping off a cliff. Worse use of an analogy or saying I ever heard of.

Actually that was me. And I suspect texting is preferred because it is easier: that's not a feature, it's a bug.

(It also appears that, as your conversational skills degrade, so does your sense of humor. )

LOL,
especially if you are a UPS driver, or long haul truck driver, or airline pilot, or ........ That was a big deal in the railroad industry the last 10 years (before I retired), to try to eliminate the distractions of internet access as guys on moving trains would not use self-discipline and common sense any longer. It all changed, when infractions became a Federal Offense, not just a rule violation.

reminds me of videos you see occasionally of someone texting while walking, and they walk right into a water fountain pool or off a sidewalk right into a pothole or something like that.... lmao... At least those things are funny, and not tragic as discussed in much of the rest of this thread/discussion.

good point !

As far as I am concerned anyone caught texting while driving should be fined $500.00 and lose their license for 90 days for the first offense and after that let the punishment get serious.NO I DON'T TEXT WHILE DRIVING OR NOT.

I love those!

The people who drive me crazy are the ones I see every day in the park or at the store jabbering/thumbing away at their phones and completely ignoring their children. Leaving aside their total lack of situational awareness, the example they are setting is that whoever/whatever is on the other end of the electronic teat is more important than the people they are actually with. And then they act surprised when their kids get their own phones and turn into self-absorbed zombies.

(We will ignore for the moment the gomers with the earbuds blasting in both ears who act like it's my fault that they are startled out of their reverie when my dog and I pass them on the sidewalk... )
