And I have found that it's the luck of the draw of whether an aftermarket shifter will vibrate annoyingly. It's more a function of the particular car's drivetrain and the unique harmonics of that car that set up noticeable standing waves. The stock shifter, with it's rubber isolator built into the shifter shaft, damps those vibrations out. The solid shaft of an aftermarket shifter tranfers vibrations directly and can even amplify them. So, some will experience rattles and some won't. My rattle was quite minor while others' were severe. Some have none. You treat the symptoms.
Thanks Patches and the rest of you guys, I bought the 1 1/2" and 2" Fernco Qwik Caps a few weeks ago and think I'll put one on tomorrow to see if it works... if it doesn't I guess the stops are coming out ... and if that doesn't work... I'm getting a sledgehammer and threaten it to stop buzzing at me...

Nice to hear someone acknowledge the people that helped him out.
Please let the team know how it worked. As I mentioned, I am thinking of doing the same mod, and can leverage the experience of those who venture ahead of us.

After reading about all these vibration issues, I wasn't about to wait until my new BPP shifter was installed, so I've been busy milling and potting a lead shot/urethane concoction that should quell at least some of the vibration. The company for which I work has to deal with acoustic "ringing" all the time and we have a decent variety of "tools" to reduce it sufficiently.
I will post my procedure and results soon. After all, the shifter is supposed to be a Christmas present, so I'm may not install it until after the big day.
Stangkiller18 and I made the mod to the Hurst shifter and verified the stops were in place...and loctite BLUE was used...
I do believe this will quiet the already not so noisy shifter...
Thanks ya'll and thanks Chris
Hey Guys... Stu and gang installed my shifter this weekend and mine does not rattle at all but I can hear the transmission noises coming from underneath more. I want to quiten that down... which one of these mods is best for this problem?

Just go to Lowes and pick up the Quickplug. 1 1/2 Fernco Quickplug. That will get rid of the noise that you are hearing.
Well I already wrapped teflon tape around the threads... Does someone have a pic of the stops... I'm gunna take them out and put some dynamat in the shift **** (but where?) Thanks guys for the responses...!
Hey Rob:
Sorry to hear you're having so much trouble with the shifter.
I feel badly as I'm the one who sold it to you.
If you can't get it set up to your satisfaction, I'll buy it back from
you....Provided, of course, you don't take that hammer to it.
I don't think it's the shifter but the design... It's a great piece, i just need to work on it. Thanks tho George.
And to get rid of that rattle in the tranny... DYNAMAT!! I hated that sound of the car "dying" when you turn it off (that rattle inside the shifter area when the car is turned off) so I dynamatted it all and every sound inside the tunnel is gone... now onto the shifter...
I've tried everything to remove the Hurst rattle and the only thing that fixed it was an MGW pistol grip ****. It's a heavy billet **** with rubber that just absorbs the rattle sound.
Well I got time to get that demon key out again and put on the rubber end cap... well it reduced about 10 % of the rattle, but deformed my new shift boot becuase of the shifter plate I had (see first pic) . I listened closely for about 10 minutes going up and down the road and it sounds like it's coming from the stops... so I need to remove the shifter to get these stops out or can I do it while it's attached at the torq tunnel. Thanks guys, that's tomorrow's project... I really want this buzz gone and be able to keep my Vette Essentials OE ****...
