I had the same problem! Water was coming in from behind the glove box... or so it seemed!!! After cleaning out the utters, opening up the tray at the base of the windshield and cleaning, pulling the interior, looking into possibly re-doing some weather stripping, cursing and pulling my hair out , I was finally able to fix mine, and here's how:

I carefully removed (and I stress, CAREFULLY!!!) the weather stripping along the pillars. Take note of how that seal is retained in the track along the pillars.... that will be handy come time for reassembly. This seal is one piece from the left pillar, along the roof edge, and down the right pillar, but there is no need to pull it from the roof edge/windshield top. Be sure to be careful when removing it from the bottom of the pillars at the door jam area, as it is glued in. Underneath the weather stripping, you'll find the screws attaching the weather strip track to the pillar. Remove that, and see if you can see dirt or water trails under it.

This was the source of my leak. Turns out, the car must have had some work done that required removing those tracks, and the lacky that put them on, used substandard parts, didn't do it right, or both!!!

SOLUTION: I ran a nice thick bead of RTV sealant behind that track and reinstalled it. When reinstalling the weather stripping into the track, you'll want to use a plastic putty knife (or something similar) to make sure you get that seal in there good 'n tight. Problem solved .... hope this helps!

Enjoy the ride!

I honestly think my windshield is causing my leak on the driver side. If you look at the windshield on the drivers side, theres this piece of stripping that keeps coming out of it and i have to keep cutting it off. I can now see a nice sized gap between the windshield and the a pillar. Could that be the problem you think?

Please take a picture of the suspected area and post it.

Well just found out my car is leaking on both sides. . This really upsets me. It leaks both the front by my feet and both behind the seat. Guess its time to take everything out. Anyone here have a write up on where you sealed it yourself withOUT buying new weatherstrip?

If you do NOT remove the interior (BOTH SIDES) to PIN PONT the EXACT leak point/s,,,, your wasteing your time and just guessing. Once you PIN POINT the EXACT leak point,,you can forumlate a repair.

Ok i tackled the job today by removing everything and looking for leaks. Found out both sides leak on the upper weatherstrip. Driver side runs down into the floor board and fils up quickly. Passenger side leaks just as bad. So i went and removed everything. I have some pictures to show you guys. I have not put everything back together yet.

Is this suppose to have dirt and water in there?

Now i added rtv a while back but never fixed my problem. Thats why it looks all gunky here.

More clean on passenger side.

Now this part i noticed there was no factory gunk on the passenger side. On the driver side i found a 1/2" x 1' weatherstrip between the window and the plastic piece thats screwed in place. Now can i go ahead and RTV the hell out this gap and then add weatherstrip tape on it as well?

RTV The **** out of it. Become a molecule of water and figure out where you will be able to enter. Then seal that up!

I wouldn't want water and dirt in my triangle. Lay a bead of RTV around that too and seal it up. Make sure you preserve it if it needs to be preserved.

Update. Got passenger side all back together. Will be doing leak test here in a bit.

I added two strips of 2 sided tape, but did not peel off the other side. This is the piece that sits on the windshield. Also if you notice (not sure its suppose to be like this) but towards the bottom of the windshield it seems as if its not laying flat against the windhshield. If someone could please check this for me and let me know, id appreciate it.

Mike

The C5 interior removal is a SNAP! Thats really the ONLY way to pin point the leak. There are 4-5 very common leak paths but SEEING the leak path, is ABSOLUTELY necessary for the correct first time repair.

It will save you a LOT of TIME and wear and tear,

I can remove the seat and carpet in 15 Min.

Default wet driver's seat

All,

Evidently it rained very hard in Atlanta yesterday. My '02 'vert was in a parking lot for 3 nights. When I got in, I noticed the seat was wet: not real wet, but wet. Steering wheel was dry, and a little water on the inside of the door, but it was still raining when I got it. She is drying out today. The only water I can find in the driver's seat and directly below the same seat. Thoughts?

Thanks,

John

posted under window adjustment but this is where the answers come from,

Until i replaced the targa top and rear weather stripping I DID NOT have any leaks BUT now i have them on both sides where the side top pieces meet the windshield a pillars. didn't see any water till i started to drive. been going crazy trying to adjust the window as i had to replace the pass side regulator which I now have a broken piece, the one thats blue on the front lower wire guide ( can i just replace that?), thought maybe it was the weather stripping pieces because they didn't look right with replacement pair sent.( they do look better). did the major window adjustment, then did the up down adjustment, then the tip in and it still wont cover that area where the two meet. seems to me that it needs more tip in than i can give it. OH yah now it seems like the whole window doesn't want to tuck under the weather stripping to push it up in order to force the rubber over the window.

really need the help on this one.

Im an amateur on these cars and really have never tackled this type of repair before but i did follow the great post and everything went exactly as they said it would.

Default convertible weatherstrip gap

I've got the same problem on a 2000 convertible. Water and wind come in from a gap between the side window and the weatherstrip at the front of the car by the windshield. I've tried to adjust the tip-in and the window height, but no luck making a better seal. It's almost as if there is too much play in the top of the window to fit tightly or there is not enough of a lip on the weather strip to fit over the window. There is also a gap between the weatherstrips at the rear of the window - as if the pieces just aren't long enough.

I don't understand how the seal design could ever work, has anyone invented "indexed glass" for the C5?

Any suggestions? Dealer told me there was nothing they could do - I guess they don't need any business right now. I am in Colorado Springs if anyone wants to take a look.
