radio, I believe it's a 15a #16 in the footwell fuse box.

Also found this thread which seems to be my issue or very similar....
http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c5-t...tely-ed-2.html

Going to yank my radio now.... I had troubles with it last week shorting out also and blowing the same #16 fuse.

Okay! I got your PM -

When I was in there and pulled my harness, I seen right behind the passenger shoulder (Panel/molding where the wires run down) a "GROUND" plug/bus for the chassis.

There is also another "GROUND" plug/bus in the footwell area, right where the kick panel is - check those and make sure they didn't pull out or get disturbed and loose connection -

If the grounds come apart or get corroded (So make sure you un-plug them and inspect them thuroughly) this very same thing will happen, what you are experiencing.

Remember that when you un-plugged the 12 Dsic changer it did the same thing as cutting the wires, they just dead end (Like I did with mine here http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c5-p...e-harness.html )

I have to ask, did you cut the three (3) wires Black/White, Orange and Green "ALTOGETHER" or "SEPERATE"?

I'm guessing and hoping seperately

You can call me too if you'd like 661-406-7516
Thanks,Matt

Here is a shot of the Ground Lug/Bus Locations:

Let me know how it goes.

Thanks,Matt

Yes I cut all 3 wires at the same time. WTF was I thinking?!?!?! Actually I wasn't thinking is best to put it I suppose! FML. Sooooo thanks for chatting with me on the phone Matt, I really appreciate it! ANyways what Matt figured out for me is that by cutting them all together I most likely shorted out a part in the BCM from the orange wire. Wondering if this is fix-able or who/where/how much I can get a new BCM for!

Everything is making much more sense of what I did now after talking with Matt, big thanks! Unfortunately I am not the brightest crayon in the box

Anyways, looks like I probably cooked whatever the orange (hot) wire from the CD changer goes to in the BCM. So needing a new BCM, can I just get any from any year 97-04 or how does that work? Will it just plug and play also? Thanks!

Wow... Stupid CD Changer wiring shuts the whole car down.... Who would've thunk it???

Your symptoms certainly could be the result of a BCM failure, But I never would have thought it was toasted.

Tim
PS Get your sh*t fixed, I want to go the the Track again SOON!

Yeah! It does look more and more likely it's the BCM. Look at those THREADS I sent you over PM.

I am leaving soon and will be out of town but I will have the Lapyop with me so I'll check in and see where the progress is at.

Just make sure you check that STAR BUS connector that has the GREEN wire going to it and sharing the other systems (Which I believe are the ones you are having trouble with)

Thanks,Matt

If I can get my hands on a Tech 2, would I be able to run that to figure out where my problem lies and if I do in fact need a new BCM?

Ok, so I guess now I'm going all the way back to post #1 ..........."no communication"....and I'm thinking that you really never checked codes to see that there was truly "no comm" between systems?

I have no idea.... I am a complete newb when it comes to electrical problems. Normally I can check codes on the DIC, but it only shows No Comm., I reset and it immediately comes back as No Comm.

Instrument Panel fuse box? The fuse box box in the passenger footwell area #29 is a 10amp fuse and is good. Is there another fuse box somewhere that I am missing or is this the same one? Thanks!

Yes, that is the one I was referring to.

Ok, I disclose up front that I do not have a remote cd player. That being said, I reviewed the schematic diagrams...trying to understand what transpired.

From what I can see, there are 6 wires(total) that are in the cd changer harness.

Three of which go between the radio and the changer:

Brown/white stripe,Green/white stripe, Black/white stripe

The balance 3 wires are routed from the instrument panel electrical center:

Orange, dark green, black/white stripe

So I'm assuming that the orange, dark green, and black/white were the wires that you cut. That being the case, if a fuse blew when you cut the wires, it should have been minifuse #5, which is a 12 volt input to the cd changer, and a 12 volt input to the radio(not certain what the radio uses this for exactly).

I cannot see how any of the wires, are in any way, connected(or related to the BCM). The ground for the radio and cd changer is G201 via SP203. Even if you had temporarily shorted a non-fused ciruit to that ground, it is not connected with the BCM ground plane at G201. One could argue that just by the nature that "ground is ground", that a discharge could cause an issue, but it would have to be un-fused, and cause many systems to fail.

So I'm not saying that the BCM cannot be bad, but in my opinion, cutting those three wires(even simultanesly) would not precipitate the failure. I still think further investigation is required, in the area that the the wires were cut, were things were removed, etc.

At this point, I would create a jumper harness, with multiple legs, to isolate the other systems in the star connector, to see if communication can be restored.

I have a new BCM showing up tomorrow to see if that solves the problem. As soon as I snipped those 3 wires, the 3 you mentioned were correct, it blew the #5 fuse...
