Mp3 cd

I'm a computer guy and I can honestly say, iTunes is not an invasive application. Yes its made by Apple and Yes it can sync with your iPod/iPhone, and yes it can be used as a player etc. However, if you ask me, and I've been through it all from updating my firmware on the Vette NAV so it can read mp3's to using Nero till I went blind making sure I had 52 or less characters in my songs with no symbols so the Vette Nav would recognize it. Trust me, install iTunes, 70 mb is nothing these days for an application, and use the burn function and make sure you select make data cd for your burn. You won't have to worry at all about song length or other character and your songs will play and look great in the Vette Nav. - - Trust me on this.

How does itunes automatically prevent the character/symbol conflict?
Does it shorten/edit the file names on it's own?
Is it set up for other nav's like the vettes that have these requirments?
Thanks.

Where did you get the firmware update for the Nav. Been trying to find out here and haven't got an answer as of yet.... Also is there a way to tell what version is currently on our Nav unit?
Thanks

Use iTunes - create a playlist of the songs you want to burn. Put a blank recordable CD in your drive. Lower right corner of the screen you will see a burn button. Click that and make sure you select burn DATA disk. This will put your music in data format on the CD. When done put the CD in your Vette and it will recognize all the music perfectly.
Thanks

I'm no IT specialist, but I followed the instructions from another thread and everything worked great. First, I have a 2005 coupe w/NAV built at the end of the model year. The software program that I used to burn CDs is ROXIO. I make a data CD, created folders on the CD and loaded them with the corresponding MP3 files. I've reduced a CD folder that held about 70 CDs to about 6. I can put over 200 songs onto each CD.
By the way, I have a 2005 Audi A6 (great car) that will not read the same CD that the C6 does. I think that it's because the Audi was built early in the model year (I picked it up right after the introduction). I'll see if there is a software update on it.

It takes care of the symbols on its own and will automatically shorten as well. The Vette Nav handles it perfectly, all songs play and its just wonderful.

Not sure about finding what version your Nav currently is on, but I got the firmware from this forum... uggh I think I deleted the name of the guy I got it from but if you do a search for GM NAV disk firmware you should find it on this forum, that's what I did. Many make copies and you can follow the instructions on how to update your Nav. Now, if you have a 2005 and you want to get the firmware that enables your Nav to play .mp3s I will have to look and see where I have it but until I get back to you - you might want to do a search on google and you should be able to find it.

Sometimes the Artist isn't listed but very rarely, might have something to do with the file. As for selecting the data, it has always worked for me with iTunes. Always use .mp3's format no other format, can't guarentee it will work in other formats.

I have used ITunes and it worked fine on a 2007 Nav unit. However, recently the songs have been fading in and out - some have actually started and then skipped immediately to another song. Anybody else have this problem and how did you solve it?

When using iTunes, what setting are you using when you convert ID3 Tags? I have been using v1.1 but it causes the cd to be burned with folders instead of just mp3's.
