I was born and raised here so I have seen the changes and can say that.
The grass isn't always greener on the other side.
But expect to pay alot of $$$ for anything here and get less services.
The cost of living, Real Estate, rent, fuel, water plus having to deal with the neglected freeways & roads so you will need alot more alignments.
The expense to operate a vehicle is higher here.
The insurance for Corvette will be much higher here in the State of Chaos Kali Republik compared to another state.
Seems to be those $$$monies alotted for specific funds end up going somewhere else. Result = no money no budget and no credit.
The State of Chaos used to have a great credit rating.
I don't doubt any of this for a minute and I'll stay put here in Florida. But I will visit Cali once again in the coming months. It's been several years since I have set foot there.
We're planning the PCH tour now and really just trying to decide how far South to begin the epic adventure. Seattle or maybe Nova will be the ending point unless we hop the boat on up to Alaska. We're setting aside 30 days to do so. Also trying to decide whether to drive the Vette out or Fly out and rent a ZHZ for a month.
Let me know where those fast yellows are though. I don't mind leaving a little money behind to help ya'll out but don't want to spend foolishly.
Any suggestion on the time of year to enjoy the coast. We like it 70ish and don't want to get snowed in.
The red light cams are in the process of being tossed in CA. Recent court rulings have thrown out convictions over evidence issues....most camera's are owned by private companies who split fees...they have no one to come to court to testify the camera was properly in synch that day etc....folks have caught on, demanded trials, a bingo tickets going away right and left as the DA can't legally prove the case, if not at trial then in the first round of appeals at the Superior Court appellate level (easy to do without being a lawyer) (just gotta hate those pesky constitutional rights).

Maybe a class action lawsuit would put the RLC camera companies out of business for good.

It's been awhile since I have been down there but Monterey is nice and Carmel where Clint Eastwood was mayor owns a restaurant there called Hog's Heaven or Breathe?
It's nice down towards Big Sur.
See what it looked like in 1971 in the movie, "Play Misty for me".

Yes I have but not recently. Went there maybe 25 years or so and at the time it was just your basic hamburger stuff. Lots of restuarants on Pacific Cannery Row in Monterey by Monterey Aquarium.
But have never been to the Sardine Factory which was in the movie.
Beautiful coast road to drive that ZHZ rental

Sounds like a great place to visit and cruise in a Vette. You just gave me a great idea for a vacation.
Hot enough here in Chicago and next month in Vegas. I could use a little break from the heat.
Then this is the PERFECT place for you to visit. I myself prefer 58 to 65 being used to fog. In SF Bay area if you want heat go to east bay or to Concord, Walnut Creek, Brentwood, Oakley, Pittsburg in 90's to 100's. SF has the best weather and will be foggy here in August.
""Rebel 1 has just replied to a thread you have subscribed to entitled - redlight camera - in the C6 Corvette General Discussion forum of Corvette Forum.
Here is the message that has just been posted: *************** It is Really Pathetic how Some people put their "Complete Trust" in govt. to tell them How to run their lives. I believe some people are very comfortable with being told what is best for them and to Tax them to Death. Reminds me of lambs being led to the slaughter. There is an old quote as important now as in years past, "A people who give up Freedom for Safety deserve Neither".""
It's not pathetic in general, just to you apparently. There are troves of people that are far right and those that are far left then those who are somewhere around the middle. Thank somebody for the middle.
I haven't found anywhere the Government has told me that I cannot do something. In this discussion for example they haven't told me I cannot run a redlight they only say that if you do and you get caught you will get a ticket. You can do it as many times as you like and can afford (or survive) it. I personally would prefer you to NOT run the redlight and possibly endanger my life, the life of those I love and property in the process.
That blanket quote was old then and old now. Not that easy to be clean cut about it. Somewhere there's a balance between Order and Chaos.
Nope, pathetic to many people and not only to some on this thread. Some seem to like govt. intrusion on their privacy and being told what is best for them to make them feel "safer".
I am happy that many people are fighting to save what is left of our rights and privacy and opposing all big brother tactics.
i don't like people who run red lights and the goof-***** who race thru them. Some will continue to do this no matter what. I do enjoy getting the green and run right up to the one's stiill going thru their redlight.

We're certainly on the right page with this. I like to scare the crap out of them...

It's time people take control of their lives and get rid of these crooks in government office. Remove all the officials and give them to the people.
I'm all for making people more aware of traffic signals for a different reason. I used to commute to work by bicycle in San Jose and was hit by an uninsured girl in a SUV who "dropped her ipod" and ran a red light and hit me. Luckily I went over and not under. It was while I was in the emergency room that I decided to trade in my C6 for a Z06 because you never know when your number is up.
I have no sympathy for the OP here, obviously. Fishing around on the floor for a dropped object while driving through intersections is stupid and will get you or others killed.
In the name of safety is the word used to get more revenue/funding by a governmental agency. It's a deception and a method used all the time.
if one sprays their tag that's reverse deception by citizen people.
Was reading Aug 6 USA Today Across the USA. It said in the News from Md that "Police can scan a license plate and check it against a database of stolen vehicles". That said, police perhaps could not scan a sprayed tag (lets say say the spray works). And if I detected a malfunction while scanning, I'd be hot to trot to check that vehicle out to investigate further. And if it was determined that the tag was altered it could qualify as fraudulent intent in possession of tag/plate.
$270 fine. And wait, that's not all...that's the 1996 price.
That article stated the network linked to state law enforcement will be extended to local jurisdictions noting that the vehicle theft rate has decreased 36% over the last 3 yrs w/the system.
Pensions and unions will destroy states and municipalities just as they destroyed American business. The collapse is without question inevitable and coming a heck of a lot quicker then most expected.
The red light cameras are not only a shameful way of collecting money they are extremely dangerous with many slamming on their brakes in fear of a $100 or more ticket. It is a disgrace how government has exploited technology and it's citizenry.
I dont know how we went from photo tickets of plates to Pensions and Unions destroying our states and municipalities. Are public employees not worthy of a pension or allowed to retire with dignity? Many public employees are exempt from paying into social security so why shouldnt they be allowed to receive a pension? In many cases it is the states or municipalities that have not funded these pensions properly not the Unions or the workers. That is not the fault of the workers. As far as destroying American businesses, there are still quite a few successful Union businesses out there. They may not all have been bitten by the "Greed" bug that drive some other businesses to move their operations overseas. The problem may be that too many businesses have become greedy looking to take advantage of .50 and hour slave wages and the US has lost a vast majority of their manufacturing base. BTW, If you are on this site I assume that you have a Corvette. They are manufactured by UAW workers that receive good health and pension benefits. Most of us know that the Corvette while not the cheapest car out there, is just about the best handling/HP value for the money of any car out there, with many being 3-4 times the price of a Vette. Yep, the Corvette has been Union made since 1953.
Red light cameras are installed by private companies that get a sizable cut of the fine. The municipality gets the rest. It's nothing more than a way to generate money. I'm no fan of the "Big Brother" aspects of government watching us. Hmmm, sounds a bit paranoid. Anyway, I think red light cameras add a new danger in that some idiots will stop on yellow rather than risk getting caught on camera.
