Latest update. Just got a call from Ralph, the GM Rep. He said the dealership has ordered the console LID according to the VIN. I am supposed to drive out there (130 miles roundtrip) and see if the lid fits. If it does, then this is proof that the correct console is in this vehicle. If it doesn't, then they will order a new console.
Did the lids change? Will this lid fit on an old console? Will this prove anything?
The lids did not change (at least in terms of how they attach and fit). The bottom line here is that if indeed you have a 2008, the center console bezel should look like the one in the picture that I posted in post #22 of this thread, period.
2005 - 2007 Center Consoles were silver gray color plastic - 2008 Center Consoles ARE the Carbon Fiber look surrounded by leather look as in mpuzach photo in post #22.
End of Story. There was NO gray plastic consoles in 2008, period. Don't get side tracked by the console lid.
Be respectful, but be firm, have them install the 2008 console in your 2008 vehicle, nothing less.
I'm not getting sidetracked by the lid. The GM Rep and the Service Manager are both saying that if the lid fits, it is the right console. That is some how proof that the console I have is the correct one.
I was told that if I have "proof" from an "official" GM website that I have the wrong console, I could present that to the service manager. Any ideas?
Here ya' go, here's the 2008 Corvette Sales Brochure in a PDF format that you can email if you need to from Chevrolet stating and confirming the standard console. See Page 14 in the top right hand corner. (Click on the link above)
I received an email from the Brand Quality Manager. He said there was not much he could do with a dealership issue. He did, however, verify that the console should be carbon, not gray. I then received a call from the service manager. He had also gotten a copy of that email. Unfortunately, he still refuses to order a new console until he looks at the car. I have no problem with this other than it is a 130 mile round trip. He is also still sticking to this idea that there were perhaps different trim packages, even after the BQM's email. I will make the trip out there next week. I will let everyone know what happens. If he still refuses, I don't know what to do.

Be sure and take along a copy of the '08 sales brochure so that he can see it and read it. Good luck.
Here is a thought, how about they just look up the part number in their parts book for a 2008 center bezel. Ordering another part to see if it fits is stupidest thing I have ever heard. Their parts book has the correct part number.

"Perhaps" is not proof, you know, you can get a beautiful center console from forum vendors for about $300. I know that you should not have to go that route and if I were you I would continue to make the dealer pay. But its a way out if gets too frustrating, I know I am frustrated on you behalf.
I want you all to know that I really appreciate the support I have received. I would not have gotten this far without you.
This has been very frustrating. This is only one issue I have had with this vehicle. There are several others - brakes squealing, rough idle, missing parts, etc. The dealership has eventually agreed to fix most of these, but it has been a back and forth ordeal with the dealership and GM.
They are still holding out on the console and a missing navigation disc. I've picked my battle with the console and have given up on the disc. It's just been one thing after the other.
I had to fight with the dealership to get some missing air dam pieces. It was GM Certified so I argued the car had to be complete with no missing parts.
It was puzzling how the dealer don't care about return business for a $100 part. Dealers spent millions on advertisement but miss out on the cheapest form of generating business: "Word of mouth."
Sitting here at the dealership. They actually ordered the console. However, they say it doesn't fit this car because the gray console had sides to it and this one doesn't. It just looks to me like they didn't order the leather-ish side piece. They are arguing that it was an early 2008 and there must have been a trim change later in the year. They say it came from the factory this way. I don't understand why I have the only 2008 in the world with a gray console.
They are also saying carbon fiber came on the upgraded versions, not the standard coupe. GM Brand Quality Manager, the brochure, Corvette Museum, and all of you say carbon fiber. It's a good thing I don't have high blood pressure.
