This is real 3rd world driving. It doesn't even compare. Hang out in the middle east and you'll miss the dipshits here.
Been there. I didn't say it did compare, just noted that Los Angeles has a lot of them these days. I spent 30 years working in emergency services for the City of L.A. and I get it. Traffic has never been worse.
People speed up after they hit "send"...... Just wait a few seconds until they get a new text message and they'll slow back down to 40 MPH, even if they're on I-95. By the time they hit "send" again you'll be long gone, even if you don't step on the gas, and they'll be on someone else's bumper. Same advice to the next guy..... Wash, Rinse and Repeat. Obviously I'm kidding (not). Just move aside because you never know what's going on in someone's life (or what their frame of mind is) and you don't want to end up a statistic.
Forgot to mention; When I'm moving and someone is too close behind me, I turn on the windshield washers. Works like a charm. My biggest problem is when I'm stopped at a light and I can tell the eye color of the person behind me
People are more aggressive towards me in the vette, especially others in faster cars. Passed someone the other day and they instantly sped up to ride my butt. I don't know why but more aggressive cars seem to make some people want to challenge you.
For sure. It seems these cars invite challenge or maybe it's rage. People are threatened (consciously or subconsciously) or maybe they just want to see what it'll do. Every single day, someone tries to mess with me. Minivan, old honda, pickup with rusted exhaust, you name it. They are trying to cut me off, tailgate or not let me merge. Or they see me on the interstate and go full throttle until they're out of site. Dodge pickups, especially the black ones with black rims are notorious for this. I'm sure they went home or on facebook and told everyone how they smoked a corvette on the interstate.
Similar phenomenon happens in parking lots. They just have to park their shitboxes as close as possible.
It's easy for people in SUVs and trucks to see over the car, so they tend to lessen their following distance. Same problem with motorcycles, only more severe in that case.
This, plus, I think they look closer because we sit so low. I commute every morning in the dark, and it seems the headlights are right on my butt. Even worse with SUVs and lifted trucks.
The number of ******* drivers has increased. Too many tailgaters. If they're too close, I'll either speed up about 15-20 MPH if it's convenient, or else slow down to 15-20 MPH under the speed limit.
If they're really persistent, I'll slow down til they try to pass, then speed back up.
I noticed this right away in the Corvette, sometimes I feel like a moving target. Especially Dodge Chargers and for some reason Corollas and Honda Civic's. Doesn't happen in my twin turbo Explorer.

Drugs, alcohol and rock & roll here in CA. In the last 10 years the amount of third world drivers has gotten crazy here too. Gotta get out of their way one way or another.
I would mostly attribute it to the state handing out drivers licenses to people that are not supposed to be here. I've seen two fender benders in the last month where the driver just ran away from the scene leaving his 20 year old car with no license plates behind.
Did a trip from Walnut to San Diego last week and people do tail gate you even if you're doing 5mph above the posted speed limit. I mostly drive on the 2nd from the passing/fast lane with my cruise control set and people would not pass me but instead ride my a$$ for miles. A good conversation with the passenger or listening to a favorite playlist and not getting ticked off is the key for me.
The front and rear dash cameras will take care of the rest if ever they decide to do something stupid.
Not just third world.
I absolutely love Hawaii and Hawaiians but every other vehicle is a pick up most of them a Tacoma.
The truck bed often has extra riders in folding lawn chairs.
Hang loose.

This is brilliant! I always wondered why the asshats seem to tail gate me so much more on my bike. This makes a lot of sense. Did you come to this conclusion on our own or did you read it from a study? Or did you spend last night at a Holiday Inn?

LOL.....This is one of the best explanations for idiot drivers that i've heard. Yes it's a big red flag when someone is on and off the gas that they are fiddling with their "device". You can also tell when ever they are swaying back and forth. When the swaying stops they are done texting or waiting for a reply. Use to be someone swaying meant they have probably tipped a few too many....now a days it's more likely some A$$ hole is risking everyone's life with their device in the hands.......
Had a lady on the way home in my truck (6000 lbs) today. Shes in a little Japanese econobox (maybe 3000 lbs??)... couple of feet from my rear bumper at 70 MPH. Cant see her headlights or half of her hood.... This chick puts on her blinker and turns completely around to look over her shoulder to pass me on the right (I was in the middle lane and it was solid white lines for all 3 lanes.) Oh and this was in rush hour traffic too. Thank god I didn't have to stop... or let off the gas at all.
I'm totally for increasing difficulty drivers tests with every year of experience you have on the road. Also... lets start executing jailing these f*cks that cruise in the passing lane.

More than likely, you are just still getting used to the corvette. if you've never driven / owned one before, you start to realize that the front of the car is much longer than you think it is and the rear is much shorter than you think it is. I still have an issue when backing into a parking spot at work because i think i'm 6" from the fence. when i get out and look, I'm at least 2-3 feet away. When I'm pulling into a spot, I always think I'm further away than I am from the curb and end up over it. Luckily I haven't had one that is tall enough to scrape the bumper.
I think your line of sight is messing with you and you THINK people are closer than they actually are since you see their bumper instead of their windshield as you would in another type of car.
Or , maybe where you live people just drive like idiots ?
I had an asshat tailgating me just the other day. I was doing around 80 and his truck was so close to my rear that all I could see above my spoiler were his headlights. I slowed down and started pacing a van in the center lane that was also pacing a car in the slow lane. As soon as I came upon another car in my lane I shot ahead, passed the van, and left the truck stuck behind three slow vehicles while I hauled *** away from him. A few minutes later here he comes again, and right back on my rear bumper. He ended up following me 7 miles to the corner store near my house, and I ended up having to pull my gun out to scare him off.
I really F'ing hate Texas and can't wait to get the hell out of here.

I've noticed that it 'seems' that people are riding closer behind me in the 'Vette when I look in the mirror. Especially when sitting still. Sometimes it's true... other times, it's simply am not used to the fact that the Corvette seats the driver so far back.
The Corvette is my wife's car, so when I go from my truck (F150 Crew Cab/6.5' bed), there is a BIG difference in distance from me and the driver behind me.
On the highway, I'm usually going faster than most, so don't get any tailgaters.

Thanks in advance for leaving asap. We don't need jerks who provoke road rage and pull guns.

I didn't provoke road rage. I was the victim of it. I pulled my gun because i am disabled, the act of following someone for miles after a road rage incident is called stalking, and is a felony that gives me every right to protect myself.
