Have had the A/H, Trac lite message and warning emblem on the dash come on several
times but only when starting the car with the brake pedal fully depressed. Starting the car with a lightly pressed brake pedal has never tripped the message& light icon. Car will drive and operate fine but brake lights won't work. Restarting the car does not always cure the problem. Had to pull a battery cable for a minute or so, put it back on and restart the car. Fault goes away but have to reprogram all the memory stuff. Pain in the ***! Come on G/M, get your crap together and find a "fix"!
Had similar messages w/1 brief brake fluid warning and even though the brake fluid did not look low, when fluid was added the other messages stopped.
Hi everyone,
I'm just wondering if there has been any progress on this issue. I just totalled my 05 on Wednesday (9-18-13). It felt like it locked up a back brake shooting me off the highway, down a 50' ravine into a ditch. I was very fortunate to walk away with only a headache. I will be calling NHTSA along with Chevy Customer Service.
Thanks!
Have you already been in touch with Customer Assistance, flyanbryan1? I checked and didn't see anything on our end as of yet.

Been to Chev dlr 3 times and talked to chevy tech/assist. No resolve.
Also, shifter not coming out of park at times, not cool, especially when
someone wants to steal your car. No fix also, dlr replaced brake lite switch
to no avail. I'm thinking the shifter solenoid is inop at times............?
No definite answers from Chevy yet. With all the complaints you would think
there would be a common fix or at least a way to diagnos.........
My car is a 2010 Grand Sport Convertible. Not a pre-2009 car as you are suggesting. The Service Active Handling light came on during a trip of about 600 miles. It came on when I restarted the car at the end of the first half of the trip. Other than the light I didn't see any adverse effects on the handling except when I acclerated quickly from a stop and induced some wheelspin and fishtailing. The car started to yaw left and right very violently. I imeediately stopped shut it down and then restarted. The warning remained but again I could detect no adverse effects on handling even at high speeds approaching 100mph! the car has exactly 10060 miles on it. Actually speeds and mileage are in kilometres as it is a Canadian Car bought new and serviced by the dealer.
The Service Active Handling message can relate to a lot of different errors in the EBCM or sensors related to active handling. When you see that message Active Handling has already been turned off and is inoperative. That is why the back end would fishtail excessively it just operates like a car that doesn't have active handling.
Take it into the dealer and let them use a Tech 2 to find the issue. It is very likely the issue is NOT related to the connector on the steering sensor and has nothing to do with the so called Recall.
I have been dealing with this same problem for close to two years. I have had one of Chevy's recorders plugged in for the past year. Every time you start the car you have to turn the recorder on if I do it never gives me the dreaded service light but if I forget to turn it on I get the light within just a few blocks most of the time. I am convinced that the recorder pulls just enough current to prevent the problem. The dealer keeps telling me that they cannot fix it until the recorder catches something. Does anyone have any thoughts?
Don't turn the recorder on and let the message come up. There has to be a code if the message is displayed (only thing that causes the message). Then take the car into the dealer and have them read the codes before turning off the engine. You can read the codes yourself if you go to someplace that has a scanner that can read ABS codes. Since the message is displayed you don't have any concerns about inadvertent activation.

Sorry to hear that there has not been a resolution for you on the Service Active Handling issues you're having. We're here to provide any additional support we can to you as you work towards a resolution with your dealer.
My form to NHTSA
Usually after initial start and during low speed drive and occasionally on highway speed the Service active Handling message came on the dash. Sometimes i could just shut the motor off and restart it would remove the message. After a few days it began warning more frequent and took longer for the message to correct itself.
On 3/26/2013... I had the vehicle serviced, new tires and the warning message looked at by my local Chevrolet dealer and the following is what they reported and assumed the needed repair.:
3/27/2013 44876 checked DTCS found C0710 Performed Bulletin 06-02-35-002B and installed "clip" in steering wheel position sensor and cleared codes and test drove no further repair. Cost for repair was $107.63 (clip was $2.63)
I have not had any issue since repair made but have heard others complain about this same issue. Steering to me would be a safety issue and a $3 clip cured the problem...
I had this done on my 07 a few months a go, thanks for the PB number.
This was happening to my 07 also. After reading this thread, I bought the clip form the local dealership for $4.00. Did it myself. Took less than an hour. No problems after a month. Hopefully, it stays this way.
Ok so I found this thread today. I've been living with this problem for the last 2 years. Fortunately, it is predictable and has generally happened only at high speed WOT acceleration.
I track the car and as such I have the traction control turned off so when it happens it has no effect other than the DIC messages, it shuts down the traction control and active handling anyway.
At the end of the session I check the OBDII codes none are set, a restart and the DIC is clean.
This only happens at WOT and not during normal day to day driving. It is still disconcerting to have these messages come up. I had the recall done some time ago but it doesn't appear to have any bearing.
After reading all of these posts, I'm not confident that the actual problem has been 100%diagnosed or resolved.
Just had the driver side front wheel lock up on my '02 Vette Conv. Talked at great length with G M & was advised that since my Vette was not covered by N100118 (05-06 only) there was nothing they could do. When advised that I would pursue registering the incident with the Fed's. they responded that further investigation would be done & they will get back with me.
They have now called back to let me know that arrangements have been made to waive the diagnostic fee at the G M Dealer but I would be responsible to pay for any work done.

The rear drivers TPM system has been going on the fritz since 2k miles on my car. The active handling comes on, traction control goes off. When I turn the car off, restart it goes away. ????
This problem happened today again at 7200 miles, I'm tired of it. Drove to the dealer and dropped it off. They can deal with it for now.
Do you think this is a similar problem or just a TPMS issue?

Well Richard since I'm an novice at this issue I can't, at this time, give you my educated opinion. However I'll be in pursuit of a resolution.I'm not going to take the Vette. in as I was unimpressed with my first interchange with the Service Tech. Once the Gov't shut down is resolved I will register with the NTSB.
I had occasional SAH messages since the car was new in 2006. The problem became frequent 2 years ago and the dealer replaced the steering position sensor. GM picked up part of the cost since my 06 M6 coupe was built after the recalled VIN range. The SAH messages then went back to just an occasional nuisance. This summer the SAH started coming back more often and sometimes wouldn't clear by stopping the engine and restarting. In the last month I've had several times when I felt a brake apply causing a pull to the left - sometimes with a SAH message, other times just Active Handling. Saturday I was on a slightly left curving stretch on the interstate when the brakes pulsed 5 times in about 5 seconds. I hit the traction control button to stop the brake applications. The car goes into the dealer Wednesday.
Followup on post #653 SAH and random brake applications. My dealer found 10 codes related to EBCM, all EBCM connections were good, so they replaced the EBCM. So far OK after a few ignition cycles and 65 miles. When they quoted me a price I politely asked if Chevy might give me some relief on the repair cost since I had the SAH addressed 2 years ago with a steering wheel position sensor replacement. Chevy picked up 47% of the cost - I was charged $840 instead of the originally quoted $1600. It really does pay to be polite and work with the dealer to solve the problem.
I've had several instances of the service active handling warning come on, about once a week for the last month on my 2007. About six months ago I had the same problem and had the steering column connector clip installed. Obviously that didn't fix it.
Today on my way home from work the system kicked on and locked the front right wheel. It jerked the car to the right, pulling me partway off the road and almost into a ravine. I've almost killed myself in cars several times, but this is the first time a car has ever tried to kill me. Are the links in the OP for complaints to the nhtsa still good?
This is my fear, as well, that after having dealt with this practically from the moment I bought the car, and having it "fixed" more than a couple times (the latest, being the clip method), that it would do something scary at high speed.
So far, the SAH msg (and brake application) has only happened at slow speeds, while turning rather tightly, or while S turning quickly at slow speed. The most recent rash of messages was just recently, and I just "fixed" it.
I hope, like virtually everyone on this thread, that it is a real fix, but I'm am afraid it is not.
I, WILL ALSO ADD, TO THE CHEVY REPS WHO READ THIS SITE: Why the heck has this NOT been addressed, properly?
