The GM tech did not see it as alot of wear from what he said, but in HINDSIGHT it is more than it should have been. We were not rushing the install but we were trying to get him out in a decent amount of time. Plus there is no place open on sat afternoon or sunday to get the things needed for a lifter install.
I was not trying to make some huge amount of money and turn a normal cam swap into a wallet breaker. Upselling on that part would have meant at least 2 more days of him not having the car. That makes no difference now, but it did then. Plus if the customer does not have the extra money, what do you do?
It is easy to talk from your standpoint too, being on the outside looking in.
I apologize if it does look like I am arguing with you over moot points.
I know you're not arguing, and neither am I. I'm just asking some basic questions to try to shed some light on this, for myself.
What would you have done if it were your car? In my shop, if the customer does not have the money to finish the job the proper way, it gets pushed outside and the next one comes in. It's not worth risking my reputation over a case like this. Not to mention, a job of this scale does not even get considered if there is a tight deadline. Way to many things to go wrong.
Getting back to something that was mentioned earlier, you didn't swap out the timing chain, and were told that it was a new motor, correct? What kind of shape was that in? And why not degree the cam in? "Dot to dot" is just a reference point at best.

Where does he get the idea that I dont have the money?

Reading comprehension really isn't your thing, is it? Or are you just that arrogant? Where are YOU mentioned in any of what is quoted here? He never said YOU didn't have the money. He asked WHAT IF...

time for the "for sale" mod after its fixed, then buy yourself a Honda. You dont deserve to own a modified Corvette*.
Damn how did you know what I was planning....... Chevy needs to hire you so you can approve people trying to buy a corvette so someone like me who don’t deserve the car won’t get one.

Well if thats the way he wants to play it I would get my car and contact an attorney. If you can have this pulled apart and inspected by an actual reputable shop and they can track the issue down to the work he did you should have em by the *****. I sure as hell wouldnt let him work on it again and I certainly wouldnt PAY him to do it after he screwed it up. This guy is obviously freakin retarded.
This sounds like a problem I had about 17 years ago with a shop in Tampa. I didn't know enough or any better; the mechanic said we'll make it "bullet proof". High performance build and they left the stock valve guides in!!! Wore the cam in 400 miles, cracked the block at 3000rmp. I had the engine torn down (at my cost of course) by another speed shop who diagnosed the failure. They said they'd split the labor!! I told them to F'off and have trashed them every chance I've got over the last 17 years. cost me over $6K back then. Classic Corvette and Mark Shakespeare was the bullet proof mechanic! Oops, there I go again; carma is a bitch. As for the poor fella in this thread, cost of the attorney vs cost of the build, coupled with odds of winning is a tough call. I walked away and bought a CZ3(I think) crate motor from GM.

Funny thing is that I’m not the first one on this forum to run my car through water and prolly won’t be the last but since I’m a teenager it explains it how about the "grown up" that did it?

Just out of curiosity, what's the maintenance record of the Nautilus look like? When was the last time it had an oil change before submerging? How regular are they done?

It's so that people take them seriously and not dismiss them instantly.

....come on guys this is a automotive tech forum and not an English essay contest. Guys that graduated school with a 4.0 probably aren't turning wrenches and guys turning wrenches I doubt could care less how you score their grammar. What you are doing amounts to a personal insult...uncalled for IMHO.
