That's why I would never order a car from the factory. You are stuck with it upon deliverey. I would rather eyeball a car at a dealer to make sure the paint is good before I buy.
My LB is awful, the worst finish of any new car we have ever owned. Next to it in the garage is a 2014 Silverado with zero orange peel or other issues. I am not going to wet sand the car and chance making it worse. The only solution is live with it as others have done. My 2 cents.
...... After a better observation(s) due to more time spent with the car, there is very visible orange peel. The clear coat looks good and glossy, but there is decent orange peel at most angles. Worst out of the three Vettes I've owned (c5, c6, now c7).

I am OK with the paint job on my mid april 2015 crystal red. If I search I can see orange peel but just looking at it all is OK. For me the factor that lets me be at peace is that OP is on a majority of the factory cars and mine is not the exception or paint mistake.
I have found orange peel on every C7 even where others have not seen it. It is particularly noticeable on the deep colors like black and crystal red. Some are much worse than others. For that reason alone I would advocate that you purchase a car off the lot from one of the larger dealers so you know what you are getting both in terms of panel fit and finish. A car that is ordered can be such a gamble if these things are important to you.
Im the OP of this thread. I actually have been going back and forth with GM about the paint on my brand new C7. First off the car was delivered with multiple scratches (from delivery wrap I'm guessing) that the dealer was great about but really couldn't get all of them out. So I brought it to a professional and had it corrected. The car does look great but my professional detail guy said that if it continues to get marks, which we all know it will, he really cannot rub it out again because the clear coat is so thin it would get damaged.
That being said, I've been going back and forth with a customer service
person on this forum about getting some kind of extended warranty on the finish in the event there should be a problem down the road. We went back and forth with several emails and basically they said they would give me a $ 100.00 service coupon at my dealership. First of all I find it reprehensible that GM would make the dealer pay for a QC issue on the paint and $ 100.00, that's not even an oil change. Its laughable to say the least.
Long story short, I had the car wrapped with expel to protect it to the tune of $ 4,500.00 and it now looks good but looses a tiny bit of luster from the expel. I am very disappointed with the finish on the car and yes I am a little **** but seriously 60 plus for a car with a bad paint job, sorry but that's unacceptable.
One thing I did notice is the TR and LB always look good for the most part.
The guys who claim their paint is perfect are just guys who do not have a critical eye. Good that they are happy.
But guys like you and I can spot defects from 20 feet away.
The paint on the C7 is some of the worst paint I have seen on any car since they started making cars. Orange peel, runs, drips, halos, bugs in the paint, grinding marks where the factory tries to level the paint with a Dremel or something, etc.
Worst paint ever.
There is a reson GM announced they are pouring tens of $Millions into new paint facility for the C7. They know the paint is sh*t.
First, I'm happy with 90% of my car (Torch Red built in Jan 2015). The paint on the hood and top are almost identical to the paint quality on my 2008 RX and my 2012 Sienna. The paint on the vertical surfaces are the worst, in my opinion. I will say that the clear paint on the top of the exposed carbon fiber roof is absolutely perfect which is good because it attracts the eye. I think the painted sides of the top are really good too, which makes me think the people who do the top have higher quality standards than the base GM factory.
My detailer was able to make some small fixes, including fixing an obvious factory drip/run issues in the rear (under the driver rear lights). He stated that he has worked on other C7s and the Red, White, and LB cars tend to have the best paint and thickest clear coat. In his experience, the black cars are the worst. He has a small sample size, of course, but bigger than mine.
As somebody else pointed out and I agree: if you watch the 'How it's Made: Dream Cars' episode on Corvette you'll see the car has orange peel almost immediately from either the primer or something on the panels before primed. It is a little odd how obvious it is, which makes me think it is designed that way. They also show people spot sanding super aggressively that explains a lot of what some people see in spots of their cars.
Somewhat unrelated, but my car had some serious discoloration in the clearcoat on the passenger door under and around the mirror from some foreign substance that ate into the clear coat a little. My detailer was able to get it out by spot cleaning with an orbital and some aggressive polisher. He was very afraid of going through clear coat but it worked out relatively well.
I have a critical eye and...................20/20 vision...........The TR paint on my 2014 looks good with very little OP in a couple spots, when inspected from 2 feet away. Not absolutely perfect, but neither is the paint on our 2014 GLK350, as a point of reference. I'd call it a draw between the Corvette and the Mercedes.
Here's what I did (link below)..... I have been to the plant 6 times since C7 production started, I have never seen one with out orange peel especially on the sides....

Very true. But since the demographic for Corvette is older guys and their vision is not what it used to be maybe GM is counting on them not noticing. They should have sunk that money for a new paint facility before the first C7 was made. I find it disturbing that we won't see a change until the C8.
I have a '15 Shark Gray built 3-12-15. I'd say it looks pretty good over all. Not perfect though. It has some op, but the flaws I really notice when ocd eyeballing the car look more like minor flaws in the body panels. Worst place is the horizontal area of the front fenders you stare at while driving. My dad's victory yellow C7 has minor "distortions" in the same place, but the vy color hides it a little better.
