Thanks that is helpful. Are there other mid-engine cars that are more reliable? Porsche 911? Audi R8? IFerrari's are notorious for having a lot of issues as well in terms of maintenance. I am torn between the low entry price point for the c8 vs. paying up. In this case, is the age old adage true? do you get what you pay for?

It happens. Don't know if Porsche is any more or less reliable, I've heard good and bad about them in that department but they definitely have their share of known issues. As to Corvettes, though generally Corvettes have a good reputation for reliability...but here we have a first-year model with all new, well, everything. But automakers generally react to this stuff and fix it as they go, and if you order now you'd probably be getting a MY2022 model, so a lot of these issues should be worked out by then.

I’m picking up a 2020 C8 next week and it falls within that range. Hopefully the odds are against this anything like this happening. Will be driving it 2.5 hours back home. I’ve been hearing about the direct injection noise that some of my OCD brothers are hearing from the engine bay. Other than the check engine light and the motor going into limp mode does anybody know what the ticking sound difference is between a broken valve spring and just the normal sound of the ticking sound of direct fuel injection?
I have the direct injection noise but also had a louder tapping sound. Turned out it was bad valve guides. I got both cylinder heads replaced at 622 mile. Got new everything but rocker arms on the new heads. No more tapping sound and car runs great.

Wow I wish this wasn't happening, but it is nice to know GM is taking care of problems!
At least with the Corvette you will have different options to get it serviced. I owned a Porsche 911 for 15 years. Got tired of only having one dealer who scalped you since it was a monopoly. The same is true with Ferrari and Lamborghini. Their maintenance schedules are ridiculous along with their parts. If you want a car to show off in the driveway but never drive buy one of those. You’ll still have the 3 or 5 year maintenance schedule even if you don’t put any miles on it. Don’t get me started on the cost for a new clutch! The Porsche isn’t worth the $120,000 plus they are wanting these days. The Corvette is a car you can actually drive.
Question for everyone, with the 2021 MY nearing end of production, is it safe to say that most of the major first model year issues have been addressed, (i.e. valve springs). I know there will always be unknown issues that arise but is there any logic in holding off for a 2022 or is the 2021 a stable car?
The Valve spring issue was not a "first year" problem. The supplier made a bad batch that also went into other GM cars. It could have just as well happened in year 5.
Car drove fine in evening. In the morning, car cranks a lot longer than usual and starts. Runs a few seconds, starts to stumble and then dies.
Has 7200 miles. Had oil changed a couple of days ago. Been running fine. Midway through a tank of gas. Temperature outside is about 55 Fahrenheit but wet.

Fuel filter?
If it was an older car I'd say it was likely a fuel problem. If a fuel filter got clogged this soon it means you got some really bad gas. Possibly water in the gas. Or a fuel pump.
These days it could be a number of things since the computer can shut the engine down if it doesn't like something.
Does the check engine light go out during the few seconds it runs? If not, there is probably a code stored that could give could give you a hint.
But it really doesn't matter, it sounds like your car is getting a ride to the dealer shortly.

Call On Star and ask for any codes, that tripped. Might give you some idea. Let us know the outcome. Good Luck.
Called Dealership. There is a service bulletin that accurately described my situation. Recommendation is a software update. Made appointment for Monday.
I purchased a C8 2021 and driving out of the dealers lot had the transmission fail with 8 miles on the car. The transmission was replaced under warranty, took about 3 weeks. They said that this was not the first time it had happened. Car seems to run fine now, will update if any issues.

Just an update I picked up my C8 on Friday and everything worked great. No problems driving 2.5 hours back home it just turned over 500 miles so I will be taking it to the dealer to have the oil and trans fluid changed Friday. Also I’m gonna have the wheels checked out to to make sure there’s no pockmarks inside from defective casting. I took the wheels off myself just to take a quick look I didn’t notice anything. I did hear that little sewing machine noise almost behind my right ear which I guess is the direct fuel Injection that has been talked about previously. Wasn’t too bad, but noticeable. Here’s a couple pics. I’ve had several Ferraris, but this car is my first Corvette and it is spectacular. I am really impressed with this car. Brent
