I read the post about gaskets and rings for the bypass pipes. It's still unclear how many triangle and ring gaskets I need to purchase for the 2M 200 cel cats. I will be having a shop doing this and want to make sure I provide them with all parts required so things don't get delayed. Also, any recommendations on less expensive blankets than 2M's $270 set? WTF are blankets so expensive? While the cats may have precious metal, the blankets don't! I know many are running without blankets, if I can score some cheap, I'll use them to hide the ugly *** cat shielding these ship with now.
Dont feel bad, I made a thread about such about a month ago as it was unclear to me too. Replies were.................................... . I still dont know exact answer, lol.
Use Loctite on bolts also, they like to wiggle loose. Leaks will be your enemy as far as CEL goes. So also I used Hi Temp RTV on O2 sensor threads. Also wrapped cats in Titanium Exhaust Wrap for heat shielding. Rarely had CELs with this setup on my Stringray, maybe once a month and it'd clear. Never any CELs on Z06 like this, even with straight bypass 2M pipes
Once you get past the airbox you are in for alot of 13mm and 15mm bolts in tight places hell. You will need some wobble extensions and wobble socket / universal joint and probably an impact drill of some sort.. Spray all the bolts with PB Blaster a while before and then again and then get at the bolts one at a time. I had to use my Air impact driver for half the bolts when even a breaker bar wouldnt do the trick (if you can get enough room for torquing on them. Go ahead and take all the heat shields off around all the bolts you need to get loose. A shallow socket wont work, deep socket will do the trick but if theres such thing as medium depth then those would do the best in my opinion. My o2 sensors were pretty tight too. I left them on until i got the cats off but had to put them in a little wedge to break them loose without spinning the cats (had to use impact air gun here too).. The provided nuts and bolts are just barely long enough and im not sure how they are going to hold up. I will probably be going back and adding loctite. What else? Dont drop anything while youre working back there or it will disappear. I didnt put any of the clips back on the back of the airbox. My hands are bleeding, Ive lost 5lbs from sweat and yes, probably tears.. I almost decided that this was an impossible task and gave up. Probably took a total of 8hrs and a couple of trips to Harbor Freight. DM me with any questions.. I will die if CEL lights come on
Righto - I’m in Australia and about to do this so we don’t have many shops capable of C8 work yet.. and if we do they are hours away..
I have a few questions…
They supply 15 bolts.. (2 long, 10 shorter and 3 in a separate pack that’s smaller and slightly thinner than the rest)
Who can help me out with placement of these bolts as in which go where?
I’ve read on a few forums ppl changing all the bolts for longer ones.. Worth doing?
Also do the supplied o2 spacers work on a coupe well? Or should I grab the mini cat spacers instead?
Cheers 🍻
Do yourself a favor and get better hardware, the stuff they supply is trash. The nuts are likely fine but I would replace the bolts with flange heads so that you do not need to use a seperate ill fitting washer. The same hardware came with my Cat Delete pipes. Also, put anti seize on the bolts, those stainless bolts will gall if you do not.
