My new 2024 Z51 has noticeable gear whine. I had a ~400 mile drive home from the dealer and I started really noticing it toward the end of the trip, which was all back roads with varying speed and zero cruise control. My race mechanic friend who owns a 2023 and has worked on and tracked multiple C8s just rode in mine today and said it's not normal and this is the first C8 he's seen with this noise. He said it's loud enough for him to consider unacceptable in a new $80k car.
I'm going to just deal with it until the car hits 1500 miles. I assume if I took it in right now they'd just tell me it's normal to have noises during break in, which might end up being true.

After reading lots of other posts from owners who have the whine and brought it into the dealer only to be told it’s normal I decided not to waste my time bringing it in. If it gets any louder I think I’ll buy an aftermarket (loud) exhaust to drown it out. It’s better to listen to the sound of a beautifully loud exhaust then an annoying whine.
2020 15k miles
It only whines between 50 and 60 when not applying gas. Bothered me 1st week.
Don't notice it anymore. Get over it. You guys whine more than the car🤣
I have a 24 C8. 3LT.
Gear wine from day one. Now has 700 miles. Dealer mechanic says it shouldn’t. Send recordings to GM waiting for reply.
also has slight thump when shifting manually 1st to 2nd and 2nd to third. Smooth after that. And no sounds in full automatic.
hate the wine, can’t stop hearing it. Too expensive to have to “live with it”. Fantastic care otherwise.

I also have had a rear gear whine since day one on my 2021. Car is exactly 3 yrs old today, still whine's and has 8200 miles. My subtle whine comes in about 50mph under very light throttle and stays till about 71mph. No change from day one.
Not worth a DCT removal and other possible associated issues that may arise after the major operation and reinstall.
I don’t know what’s worse my diff whine or the extreme road noise! A forum member did a thread on noise coming in because of the door gaskets. I did the “paper test” and my gasket are sealing the door.

Most of your road noise is generated by tire tread design, run flats and super low profile. If you could do a test with a 18 inch tire/wheel with a 35 series profile tire and a non run flat and a touring design thread, the C8 will be much quieter.

It's impossible to objectively gauge how loud a car is on a YT video. Use a db meter app and see how it goes, if it's over 80db at cruising speeds, something is wrong.

I took mine to the dealer 2 weeks ago and I'm in this same position right now. I'm up to about 1300mi and mine has either stayed the same or if anything, gotten worse.
I mostly just wanted it documented before I start tracking the car. It's annoying me on the street and I definitely want it fixed but I'm hoping they'll agree to wait until winter to do the swap.
hi -I was at a corvette meet yesterday and asked C8 owners whether they heard a whine - two said no and two said yes but it was faint. I'm taking it in to the dealer and will ask him about it - looking at all the threads I'd draw this conclusion:
1. given that this forum has thousands of viewers and only those with a noise problem respond - I'd guess the majority have quiet rear ends.
2. given that some are quick to live with it and some aren't (I don't want to live with it and don't see why I should), it suggests that there is a continuum of gear noise from loud to barely noticeable - so it isn't a yes/no question, it is a "how much" question
I'll let you know what the dealer says.
I have a whine in my C8 also. Real annoying between 50 and 57 under light throttle Took it to a dealer and after having it for almost two weeks said GM tech said within normal range. Dealer refuses to service it and I a going to another dealer. I have only 1100 miles on the car. Once I hear it I can’t unheare lt and it drives me crazy. Any car that cost over 90k should have better suppott. I need to elevate this until I get satisfaction. I really don’t want the car anymore. This is not “world class”
anyone know how to elevate this to someone with authority.
(by the way, I Han the dealer tech ride with me before I left it at the dealership. He agreed that it was way too loud).
