In McDonald vs. Chicago, the Supreme Court ruled that individual right to keep and bear arms applies to the states, upending Chicago's strict ban on handguns, and energizing the gun-rights, including concealed carry, movements.
Gun rights' groups purposely recruited McDonald for the lawsuit, according to a 2010 Chicago Tribune story. A black Democrat and avid hunter who lives in a neighborhood plagued by crime, McDonald would challenge the image of gun-rights advocates as middle-aged, white Republicans from rural areas, it said.
McDonald, 76, is a retired maintenance engineer and graduate of Kennedy-King College.
Local NAACP President Don Jackson has been an outspoken opponent of concealed carry laws.

Dominic DeDock, president of the McHenry County Sportsman's Club, defended his decision to no longer pursue the shooting range in an email to the Northwest Herald.
DeBock was seeking a conditional use permit to put two shooting ranges, a paintball course, and miniature golf on the site at Route 120 and Queen Anne Road.
Neighbors in Bull Valley and Woodstock packed McHenry County Zoning Board of Appeals meetings to stand against the gun range. Opponents decried nearly every aspect of the project, from sound, to safety, to lead removal.
"Despite our proposed plans to follow all local, state and federal regulations regarding lead removal, noise levels and safety standards, it has become evident that the residences of Bull Valley and Woodstock are unwilling to allow this opportunity for job creation and substantial revenue for McHenry County to proceed," DeBock wrote in the email. "It is unfortunate that in this economy the 8 houses that are within a half mile of the firing line have decided to ignore video and sound data which clearly show the noise levels would be well below that of the noise generated by the traffic on Route 120."
"The majority of other outdoor shooting facilities are located in far more densely populated communities," DeBock, who also owns Marengo Gun and Coin continued in the email. "Those communities not only continue to prosper, but many have also grown in close proximity to those outdoor shooting ranges. I would like to thank the many people for their emails, phones calls and words of encouragement in regard to this project."

GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) - The annual Republican state convention in Green Bay was held at a place that did not allow concealed weapons – and at least one delegate tried to change that.
Annette Olson of St. Croix County tells the Madison Capital Times the party is betraying its principles by banning concealed carry at its annual signature event.
Olson said the GOP should practice what it preaches, and let licensed gun-holders carry their hidden weapons in the convention hall. Olson sponsored a non-binding resolution to have future conventions held in places that respect the Second Amendment rights of those attending.
The resolution passed narrowly. This year’s convention was held at ShopKo Hall close to Lambeau Field, six-and-a-half months after concealed weapons became legal in Wisconsin.

"Concealed Carry Petition
As a supporter of our 2nd Amendment rights, I have started a petition to help make our case for concealed carry in Springfield. The petition can be signed online at my website by visiting roth.ilhousegop.org, and clicking on the “Pass Concealed Carry Now” button. I am a co-sponsor of House Bill 148, supporting allowing citizens who undergo rigid training the right to possess a concealed carry license in Illinois.
Members of the House Republican Caucus have joined together in support of the passage of House Bill 148, also called the Family and Personal Protection Act. We are urging the General Assembly to pass concealed carry now and ask everyone to sign the petition to show those who are not on board the demand for this legislation to become law."

BOTTOM LINE UP FRONT: U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder and the Illinois State Police are teaming up to pass legislation to destroy your right to privacy and your gun rights in exchange for federal grant money.
HOW THEY PLAN TO DO IT: Representative Cynthia Soto – an ardent Chicago Gun Grabber – recently used parliamentary procedure to hijack an anti-drug bill (SB1034) and turn it into one of the most dangerous anti-gun bills ever put before the Illinois General Assembly. It has been determined that Rep. Soto is just a minor player in this effort and that ERIC HOLDER and the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) are behind this assault on your rights. The DOJ has promised the Illinois State Police that they will get millions of dollars in federal grants if this legislation is passed. Holder feels that, if he waves a few dollars under the noses of the Illinois State Police, then they’ll sell legal gun owners down the river.
OUR MESSAGE TO ERIC HOLDER AND THE ILLINOIS STATE POLICE: “Sorry folks. . . our freedom isn’t for sale!”
WHAT PASSAGE OF SB1034 WOULD MEAN:
1. You would be forced to disclose your Social Security Number to the Illinois State Police when you apply for a FOID card. Disclosing your Social Security Number to the State Police would give them unlimited access to your personal information to include your credit records, your tax returns, your payroll information and even whether you owe overdue fines at the local library. There is no reason for the State Police to have your Social Security Number except to find a way to take your guns away.
2. SB1034 would pretty much eliminate the reinstatement process for FOID holders who had their cards revoked for whatever reason. Thus, thousands of persons not prohibited under federal law from owning firearms would be denied their rights by the Illinois State Police with little hope of successful appeal.
3. In a deliberate attempt to thin the ranks of lawful gun owners, SB1034 greatly broadens the definition of “domestic violence” situations that would lead to your guns being confiscated. For example, if you and your brother get in a shoving match over the outcome of a Bears game, then you both lose your gun rights PERMANENTLY. If you discipline your children in a manner that some busybody doesn’t like, you lose your gun rights FOREVER. This provision of SB1034 falls into the bucket of “any excuse to take guns away.”
4. SB1034 would impose A MINIMUM 60-DAY WAITING PERIOD ON FIREARMS AND AMMO PURCHASES for new residents of the state. There is no other purpose for this provision other than to encourage gun owners to leave their guns behind before moving into Illinois.
WHAT YOU NEED TO DO TO SAVE YOUR GUN RIGHTS:
1. Contact your State Representative and State Senator and politely tell the person who answers the phone that you are a law-abiding firearm owner who opposes SB1034 and that you expect your State Representative and State Senator to vote AGAINST SB1034. Remind the person that this is an election year and that you will not vote for your rep or senator if they vote for SB1034. If you do not know who your State Representative or State Senator is, then click this link to go to the Illinois Board of Elections:
http://www.elections.state.il.us/Dis...ByAddress.aspx .
2. Please circulate this alert to all your gun-owning friends and ask them to contact their elected officials as well.

Part of a bill moving forward in Springfield would allow a photo-less firearm owners’ ID card for members of religious groups which discourage or forbid photography.
The State Police say they approve of the idea, so long as the applicant can provide certain documentation and fingerprinting.
“We do not have a problem to give our fingerprints,” said Earl Shrock, representing the Fairfield Amish Mennonite Church in Tampico. “We’re not that we’re against being identified. The reason for non-photo is we don’t want to have that lead to pride in our lives.”
S.B. 1034 has passed the House Executive Committee.

"Hello Tea Party...
Rockford and Winnebago County are severely under represented when it comes to defending our God given rights to keep and bear arms. Though the Tea Party is not a Gun Rights Organization it is a Movement that defends our Constitutional Rights.
We are having an Open Carry event (you can bring your gun and carry it openly on the property of the Bullet Stop) to stand up and make our opinions known and heard on this issue at our Second Annual "True Grit" event with Bullet Stop Gun Shop, together again, hosting the 2nd annual 2nd Amendment Rally on Sunday, June 17th from 2-4 pm at 2100 Harlem Road in Loves Park.
At this event we will have a petition to sign that seeks County Board Approval to pass a Conceal Carry Ordinance Locally. The last time it came up for a vote was in 2008, and it was defeated by the majority Democrats and RINO's. This time we have the advantage of seeking a vote on this before the November Elections so that every elected County Board member to include the Chairman will have to cast a vote that will give us all a clear view of where they stand on our God given rights to keep and bear arms. We hope you will attend and sign this very important petition."
The Bullet Stop will have many deals on Ammo and Guns at this event.
A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.
