Thanks Gary, the Carolina Auto Masters crew is hanging onto updates, and praying for the best. We've competed against Sonny at Maxton, as well as worked on his car, and yes, Sonny is a fierce competitor, and I know he'll pull through, and even make it to the Hot Rod Top Speed Challenge in March. I know how much he was looking forward to it, we talked about it last week. I'm forwarding the updates to the ECTA crew as we get them.
"Hey, its me...my apologies to Gary for not contacting him today...they took Sonny off the ventilator again today and he has been doing very well without it since 10 AM. As long as he does well for 24 hours then they will probably move him to a regular room out of ICU. They dropped his sedation meds today and kinda replaced them with pain killers instead to try to get him more awake. He moves around very forcefully, and has opened his eyes several times today. But by looking at his eyes you can still tell the there's "nobody home" at least right now. We will just have to see what the next few days bring. The neuro docs have signed off on his care, they have provided the care that he needed and now we wait. What's done is done basically and when he fully wakes up we will get a better idea if he has any brain damage or not. I'm so scared. I can only imagine what he is going through right now. Any of you who know Sonny know that it's devastating to see him helpless and confused in a hospital bed. Anyway, I'll keep you all informed with what happens tomorrow. Thank you for caring....
Lisa"
I posted over in the C5-Gen thread my contact info. Since I work at the hospital, just let me know if there is anythign I can do.
From past experiences ( working here ) I can tell you that often the family does not want any visitors, and flowers and such are hard to send while the person is still in the Intensive Care Unit. And since they tend to spend every possible chance there, and are exhausted when they leave, news is often slow comming out. There are, as you might imagine, quite a few restrictions in place from the hospital, and with the ""world-class goodies"" being pumped into their systems, they are often quite embarrassed of the things that they say if you do visit, or even call. I'd recommend holding off anything other than prayers and internet well-wishing until he gets into a standard room. - unless, of course, Lisa asks for anything specific. - But like I said, that's just a "in General" kind of thing.

"Hey guys...Sonny has officially been off the ventilator to almost 2 days now, the nurses say that they probably won't move him to a regular floor yet because he needs constant care. He's very stubborn and determined and is constantly trying to get out of bed. He opened him eyes a lot more yesterday, and we think recognized his mom, brother and my sister. The nurse said that she told him that he was in the hospital and had an accident he mouthed "f$%#" He can't speak with the trach in, but sounds like something he would say! He kind of tossed and turned yesterday but has his eyes open and trying to focus on some things for a good part of the day. I unfortunately was at work in the morning but his mom said that physical therapy was already starting to work with him. I'll be at the hospital this morning, and pretty much all weekend. I'll post more of his progress as soon as I can. Thank you all again for your prayers and continued support!! Love you guys!

Thanks for keeping us updated on Sonny's condition. It gives us all something to pull together for and puts this Chirstmas season in perspective. We have done the Christmas season in the hospital with family and know how tough it must be on you guys.
Know you have tons of folks pulling for you from all over the globe.
"Hello all...well Sonny has pretty much been awake for the past 2 days. He is really groggy but from what we can tell seems to remember everyone...even my one year old niece! He has a special wave that he gives her and he did that yesterday when he saw her!! He's been giving me lots of kisses on the cheek. They even got him out of bed on saturday and let him sit in a chair for a while! He's doing so good, I'm so proud of him. We don't think that he completely understands yet whats going on etc. But we continue to reassure him that everything is okay. We tell him that he is in the hospital, that he had an accident, but we don't know if he's getting it. Although I asked him yesterday if he know where he was and he mouthed "hospital" but shook his head no when i asked him if he knew why. So...just a little bit at a time...He is very anxious to get out of bed still and is kinda starting to get angry because we won't let him go. I hate seeing him like that. He'll be okay though. I know that I have said thank you for your prayers and support, but thank you, thank you, thank you!!! Merry Christmas everyone!
