[QUOTE=TorchRedFred;1596999669]Jmoney127, I hate spending other peoples money so it's always hard to make recommendations. But with that being said, if it was me and I was looking at JL components, I would look to go with the C5's or up. Problem is they will probably cost you around $400 depending on where you get them. Maybe you can check with your local shop to see if you can score an even better deal.[/QUOTE

Im open to anything, the audio store only had the JLs on the wall to hear so I couldn’t compare them unfortunately. Really wanted to hear the focals as well. Talking with the guy at Crutchfield he said that the focals will provide a cleaner and clearer sound than the JLs but have less low range. I do not think the lack of low range from the speakers will be an issue with the 10w3v3 in my stealthbox. Does this sound about right? I was looking at the focal 165as, ps 165v1 and the 165fx, I think the ps 165 might be the sweet spot?

$300 for a pair of 6.5” components, I do not think I’m going to run rears after looking at some other threads on the forum. I think a quality set of door speakers should be better than decent quality set of 4. What did you get from Crutchfield?

That's cheap for either brand. Did they sound alright? I know they make less expensive speakers for the masses but was always told never buy them. Go as high end as you can afford. For Morel, the ones actually manufactured in Israel.

Morel Maximos (6.5" comps) and Focal Integration (5.25" coaxials) both brand new. I would take a look around eBay and clearance items on crutchfield. I love Crutchfield because if you aren't in a hurry, you can buy a blemished set of really nice speakers for like 50% of their new cost. Did that with a set of Focals for my Tahoe. It was a performance set and one wouldn't work. Because of that, they sent me a BRAND NEW set at the original blemished price. GREAT customer service!

I actually saw a set of Focal Utopias (yes, Utopias) on eBay for $250. It was ONLY the woofer...but still, that's a $5000 set of speakers. If you already have a component set in you car, running a Utopia as a replacement could be a fantastic upgrade.

I haven't installed them just yet. But I can't find a single bad review of them, so I'm taking a chance in buying a set that I have no experience with. If they suck, I'll sell them and get something else. It was between Morel and STEG for my components, I found the Morels on sale, so I went with them.

How are the morels supposed to compare to the focal components?

Tough call. Supposedly, Morel is considered a "high-end" speaker...but they also have low-to-high end versions like Focal. I'm very familiar with Focal as I've heard or physically owned every speaker they offer (minus the Utopia of course) and even their entry level speaker sounds great. Believe it or not, I would rather have an ENTRY level Focal over most other top end component sets. Another really good brand that's often forgotten about is Polk. I've never heard a bad sounding (or "muddy") Polk. But they can get pricey too.

Im looking at the focal ps165v1, I can get a set for like $270. Have not heard them though. I’d like to get a set and adapter plates ordered today so I could potentially do the install next weekend. Will I need adapter plates for the tweeters too?

Yeah. The factory (C6 anyway) "tweeter" is a 3.5" speaker. To run a standard component tweeter, you'll need an adapter plate...unless you're okay with drilling a tweeter size hole in your door. You could also use a tweeter mounting cup in a position of your preference.

Do you know where to get the tweeter adapter plates?

Metra 82-3015 tweeter adapters. $8 on Amazon. Ignore the description where it states it is for C7 corvettes, as it also fits the C6. You have to cut a hole in the adapter to mount your tweeter.

Thank you! You don’t happen to know the Metra part number for a c6 with bose adapter plates do you? Not sure if the bose is different from the standard one

Metra 82-3014 for the 6.5" woofer. Same for bose or non-bose cars.

Awesome, I’ll get those ordered today. Excited to get this thing done, I’ve never done a full audio system or sound deadening so it will be interesting to see how it turns out. Do you have any other recommendations for speakers given what I’m going for? I’m very open to suggestions and will research everything before I pull the trigger. Also, I bought a bulk pack of dynamat xtreme and planning to do 100% coverage of peel and stick ensolite over top of it. Is this the best way to go or is there something better than ensolite?

Recommending speakers is tough. Originally I went with some less expensive Focals based on recommendations from this forum and guys saying how great they sounded. When I did get them installed I was so disappointed because I found the tweeters to be painfully scratchy and couldn't get the sound right. That's why it's difficult to know what to recommend. What one person says is great, another will tell you that they sound horrible. The more money you spend the more likely you are to get a quality product, but also certain brands of speakers sound better with certain types of music. Each brand kind of has it's own sound that for the most part remains similar along their entire line up. That being said, all the brands being mentioned (JL Audio, Morel, and Focal) have their following and fans that will say they are the best. The dilemma is that I would hate to steer you towards a specific speaker and then you to be unhappy with it since different people are looking for or hearing different sounds.

What were those lower end focals that your tried and what are you running now? I tend to listen to rock, some rap/hip hop type stuff and then alternative type stuff that has many highs and lows with frequent ups and downs if that makes sense.

Originally I went with Focal Auditors which were recommended by the forum audio vender and had positive reviews from other members that had them installed. After not being happy with it, I then replaced the speakers and amp I had purchased to try and improve the sound issues I was unhappy with. First I replace the fronts with higher end Focal KRX2's and then eventually replaced the rears with the Morel Hybrid 5.25" coaxial. My system does sound pretty good now, but I will say that I do believe that the Focal's I have are not the best for the type of music I like to listen to most, which is hard rock. They do sound great with other types of music and I notice that when I do drive my Corvette I tend to listen to hard rock less and more to the music that really excels with the Focal's.
