The new headlight actuator valve (going with a single unit) and actuator seal kits showed up, so I've started working on that. Hoping to get the headlights opening with the switch. Hardest part of this job is getting those actuators out. Pretty darn tight in there lol

It is tight in there! Kama Satra with a machine is what it is! You just have to relax while you're doing it and figuring out the easiest way-route-method of getting to whatever it is on our Corvette's! I was under the dash, getting out the last of the old insulation last night, with my feet on the floor, my butt on the sill, my back on the seat and my head on the floor, with my arms up in the innards of the dash on the driver's side! Gawd....!

I have decided that I need an extra elbow between my elbow and wrist. Sort of like a swivel for a ratchet.
We now have headlights that open with the switch They also open correctly with the under dash pull switch.
Still a couple of things to fix - no high beams - think I need the switch on the lower column and the vacuum canister leaks so I had to bypass it. Headlights were struggling to open with it hooked up. Bypassed it and they open and close normally. I'll spend some time testing the tank with air pressure after we get through the busy holiday weekends.

One step closer to being a "real" car again

I know I should have had a video... man, tough crowd in here Thought about it after I got them working, but it was too dark out to see much. I'll work on that
Hey Adam, just skimmed through this thread - Damn good work there! Couple of questions for you, first, how do you live in that heat without AC in that car? I'm hoping (probably against hope), to have my AC going by this summer because I'm not looking forward to driving my Vette in the Texas heat. Second question, when you gonna come help me with my body/paint work
Thanks for the compliments! It's coming along and is starting to feel like a real car again.
As I'm sure you know being in TX - summer here is like winter in the north - the cars just aren't driven much. We wait until the sun goes down so we don't melt. A/C will hopefully come at some point, but lots of work ahead before we reach that point. My plan would be to put a vintage air system in as it would be a huge undertaking to put the AC system back to original.
Yeah I'm not looking forward to the job at hand but figured since I have to replace my dash and the heater doesn't even work I'll tackle the AC at the same time. My plan is for my vette to be a daily driver.
great job on the '77!
I just notice that you have the wrong emblem on your gas door...
it should be a pair of crossed flags, not a round emblem... that one looks like a '76 emblem.

Would enjoy that, but collector insurance frowns on it

Thanks RP! Yep... that's the emblem that came on the car. We have the flags for the nose and fender but no rear emblem or flags for the gas lid. Still tons to do before we get down to the details

I don't have collector car insurance, my insurance company insured mine and I have regular plates on it too so I don't have to wait for weekends to drive her
Just make sure they are insuring it for an amount you are agreeable to. Standard insurance will just consider it an old car as opposed to collector car with an agreed upon value.
Yes, I did give them a value on the car so it's an agreed upon value. Had to do a claim on my pickup getting broken into recently, they were very good about it. The wife insists on carrying high coverage so they better be good to me

Been quite awhile since I posted up on the project. Not much going on with it for a few months.
OK... I'm ready to call it a car again! Successful 25 mile (at 65mph) drive on the freeway this morning. Temps held at 200 - 210. Motor is so smooth - never missed a beat. This car really is a joy to drive on the freeway. No vibrations, tracks straight... really a fun car on the road.
Long ways to go overall of course, but like I said, I feel like we have a real car now, and I am convinced that we saved it from becoming a parts car.
It is such an awesome feeling to see it come together like this.

That right there is what makes all that hard work worth it! I was beginning to think you had lost steam on the project. Good to see you have not sold it

Nah... I'm stubborn (read that as stupid ) so I don't give up easy. Just had life stuff to take care of. Going to be tearing into the drivers side door next to figure out my window and mirror problems. Window crank is slipping and the mirror controls stopped working. Long list of "to-do" but that is part of the fun on these old cars.
Good to see you back in the saddle pal, did a little wrenching today for the first time this summer. Had a slight whiff of gas fumes the last few weeks...........turns out both of my fuel pump hoses were 5/8"..........funny that when I put the proper 1/4" hose on, the smell just disappeared. Enjoy the rest of your summer......God knows I'm tryin'.

Hey Brian! Glad you figured that out. I'm guessing you're talking about the small return line from the pump? Was it just the rubber line being too large of an inside diameter to clamp correctly to the hard line?

Thanks Roger! I'm actually feeling like I can get in it and drive without worrying as much about every little thing lol It's an old car, and I know that things go wrong, but I feel like the work I've done so far is starting pay off.
