Doorgunner's '68 Convertible Project

Now that all the wiring has been tested on the Harley, I need to install the chrome box that will be used to protect/access the relays/fuse block).
Here is the latest pics of the vent covers before/after...…..(50 years of "Nasty"),,,
Black paint loves to collect pollen!
I may polish the rear chrome bumpers today (nasty, also!)…..I did blast the rust from the inside of the bumper and applied several coats of black enamel, some of which ran onto the chrome...

)NO professionalism involving paint in this thread

I'm still getting up the nerve to paint the front clip myself after I finish the fiberglass repairs

The mod. starts on page 88 and restarts many pages later. I changed my mind about how to make the mod several times.
1. The first pics show me adapting the grill sections to fit the '76 nose. (the easy mod)
2. Later, I took pics of (re)-modifying the '76 nose to get the same angle on the grill sections as the '68 nose. (more complicated)
3. After that you sent me the fiberglass parts you made so I could mod the '76 nose to be about 3-4" shorter and exactly the same as the '68 nose. including the "support-lip" that goes from fender-to-fender behind the chrome bumper (much more difficult).
#1 could have been completed in a week or two.
#2 could have taken a month for a rookie.
#3 would take a couple months for a rookie
I hope the above explanations make sense....lots of changes took place to get where I am now....IF I can stay healthy and busy on the nose , the front clip could be ready for paint in a couple weeks

With the advice of you members the mod is making more sense as to what I need to do...and the cuts/fitting/bonding are going better...cut-measure-bond...cut-measure-bond...etc.

The other news...……….they will need to be rechromed.
I spent 1.5 hours polishing the driver-side bumper and managed to get a shine on it but there were too many fine scratches and "spider-webbing/crazing" in the chrome to get them up to daily driver status.
The bumper facing the camera is polished.....
The bumper here facing the camera is unpolished.................
Underside is polished on this bumper.................................. .............
The underside is unpolished on this bumper.................................. ..........
So.....I ended up with bad/unpolished...……...and not-so-bad/polished.
Now to locate a re-chrome company near Louisiana.....ANY SUGGESTIONS

"Derek said: or do you have enough?" Between the parts you made for me and the pieces RVZIO dropped off I can make it all work!
"R.R. said: Re-chrome is cheaper" Sounds good to me/I just remembered my friend owns a Machine Shop and can get re-chrome done for half the price.
"Zealot said: Check Luling, TX area": I'll ask my friend to look the business up and give them a call.
Derek asked about the fiberglass behind the hockey stick;" Derek...about 10" of the front fender/the headlight surround has part of the bumper lip-I will splice in a section of the lip you made to complete the surround. I also need to fit the lower part under/behind the hockey stick better.
Now for an update:
The sharp edges of the bumper scratched the primer while I was fitting it to the car before it was painted so I put several layers of masking tape over the edges to protect the new paint.......
I had to redrill the bolt holes in the fiberglass/the body man got lots of filler in them........the bumper is level within 1/16"...close enough....
My 6' Social Distancing bumper.......I fiberglassed the lower valence into place so there would be NO seams after painting was done......
Only a C3 could look good With or Without bumpers..........
That's it for today.

looked, and I convinced myself to replace them. Some I was not able to, so reluctantly put them on anyway. At first I was disappointed, but after a while it all blended together, and you know what?- no one has ever said a thing to me about those less than perfect parts. I know there are some Vette perfectionists
out there, and you have certainly paid a great deal of attention to detail, but it will never be perfect and life is too short for extreme perfection, so get them on there and start road tripping!
I am out of crawfish boudin!

Leveled. My eyeball says it's level, also............
OOOOOOOOOOOOPS....My eyeball says the leading edge is 1/2" low......…(Note: Adjust this corner)
That's it for today.
