you can do this. You are so close and have come so far. Take a break for a few days and tell your man to take you to dinner to cheer you up. Tell him you are worth the effort on his part and you deserve it for all youve been through with your car. Soooooo close, yo can do it

It's been several decades since I changed a quarter panel and do remember it wasn't one of my favorite things.I thought since we had some great minds on this project this would be a good source.
Yes, 7t9l82 I think it would be much easer to put complete68-73 quarter panels on the car than to do it the way I am. Its a shame the 69 rear clip I had was in such poor shape.

This is a "WOULDA_COULDA-SHOULDA" and you should stop thinking about this becasue it only puts doubt in what you have done and there is MORE to consider IF this aternate method was used. This is just friendly profession advice ...and ONLY because I have been there. The "WOULDA-COULDA-SHOULDA" thing that is.

Installing the full quarters would ONLY take care of the quarters...IF the quarter would actually go on in the same area as the bonding strip of the factory rear quarters...and THEN...you would have to deal with the upper rear body panel that has the 'spoiler' made into it....that has to be taken into consideration....then sectioning in the missing sections of the needed bonding strips you would need to install the taillight panel.

It wasn't my intent to cause anyone to second guess what they were doing. Priya is doing a magnificent job. It wasn't a could would should thing at all. I was merely asking a question. I know what it's like to be in a tough project. And I think Priya knows by now the respect I have for everything she has done project wise.
keep up the good work ,I'm looking forward to seeing the finished product.

Yes, I wasn't second guessing what I'm doing, I'm committed to the aproach I've taken.

So, some good news. Hubby called this morning and says before I got up he pulled the cover off the compressor motor and a wire had fallen off a capacitor and that's why the compressor stopped working. He says he just needs to change the connector tonight and it'll be up and running again.

I understand it as a question. Sometimes some questions when they are directed in how something is done or could have been done can cause for catastrophic failure in how the project progresses.

How do I know this...because in many of the intense projects I have going on at times....I have friends or customers stop by and 'suggest' things. And these suggestions...even though I know they are coming from a 'good place'..(just like what you did here).... and only trying to help...can often times cause me to have to re-think what I have already thought about a lot extensively and then explain to them why what they suggested will not work because they do not have all the facts and understand what is going on. When they can see the 'big picture'...they nod their head and realize with all the information they just got...they would not have had to say anything at all.

And I do not want you to feel that I think that you do not care about Priya's project...that would be incorrect.

I got the next bracket sorted out. It went a lot quicker than the previous pair I did. Here's the before and after:

I didn't get to finish off the welds as I ran out of welding wire. As the metal I'm adding was slightly thicker than the factory bracket it was a little tricky to hold everything in place for tack welding because a vice grip won't hold both the factory bracket and the new metal. This bracket could be completed with the rear clip fiberglassed in place as there was no need to remove it to modify the bracket:

VERY WELL DONE Priya.

Funny thing is on how somethings begin to go quicker once your car knows you know what to do and it chooses not to fight you any longer. I KNOW a car really can not do that...but forces in the universe certainly can...and I am GLAD that this came out as you planned.

Thanks Dub. I'm not afraid of the modifications to the bumper brackets anymore, I'm confident I can get them all sorted out.

For me the fabrication of a bracket, or whatever vs just replacing parts, is what I find the most rewarding.
Thanks for sharing your progress with us.

Interesting. I find it somewhat stressful. I feel pretty anxious until I come up with a plan.

Half of the fun of doing a project is when the light bulb over your head comes on, and it works.
There is great satisfaction when that part is done.

Keep up the good work, and I am glad it was an easy fix on the compressor
